Levels of

Organization in
an Organism
Living Things
•A living thing is an
organism.
•Many organisms have a
body with different parts.
Living things have five basic life
functions:
•Grow and develop
•Use energy (they get energy by
eating or making food)
•Reproduce (make more of their
own kind)
•Respond to the environment
•Get rid of waste

CELL
Cell
the basic unit and building block of life.
There are two kinds of cells.
Prokaryotic cells are ordinarily single-celled and
smaller than eukaryotic cells.
Eukaryotic cells are usually found in multicellular
organisms, but there are few single-celled eukaryotes.
Examples are human blood cells, plant and animal
cell.
Many-Celled Organisms have different
types of cells…
Animals have:
• Bone cells
• Nerve cells
• Muscle cells
• Blood cells
Plants have:
Leaf Cells
 Root Cells

TISSUE
Tissue:
•is made of cells that work
together to perform a certain
task.
•Examples are human skin tissue,
muscle tissue and connective
tissue.

ORGAN
Organs
•is made of similar tissues arranged
and grouped together to perform a
specific function.
• Examples of organs are the brain
and heart.

ORGAN SYSTEM
Organ Systems
• is a group of organs that
work together to perform
specific bodily functions.
•Examples are digestive system,
circulatory system and other
system in our body.
• To which

ORGANISM
Organism
• is a recognizable, self – contained
individual.
•Organisms can be unicellular such as
bacteria or amoeba, or multi – cellular
composed of organs and organ system.
•We humans are also an example of a
multi – cellular organism.
