01 INTRODUCTION

The term "Korean drama" refers to the first television dramas developed and produced in South
Korea. A captivating TV series that have taken the world by storm. They touch on various themes
like romance, family values, and sacrifice, drawing viewers in with relatable characters and
emotional depth. This unique storytelling has made K-dramas addictive, especially among women
who are drawn to their romantic plots. The magic of K-dramas isn't just in their storytelling;
they've sparked a cultural phenomenon called the "Korean Wave" that's swaying hearts from Asia
to India, K-dramas stand out with their focus on characters and emotions rather than just plot
action, making them a global sensation with high-quality visuals and unforgettable soundtracks.
In the midst of the pandemic, K-dramas became a lifeline for many, introducing them to Korean
culture and fashion. With a unique blend of traditional values and modern romance, these dramas
tug at heartstrings. However, excessive watching can lead to relationship and mental health issues.
K-dramas also influence fashion, beauty trends, and even cooking choices in places like India,
though concerns about cultural appropriation arise. These dramas not only offer an escape from
reality but also promote cultural empathy. Yet, they should be consumed mindfully as they can
impact academic performance and mental well-being.

04 RESULT AND DISCUSSION

This research delves into the growing global influence of Korean entertainment, particularly Korean dramas
(Kdrama), and its impact on the lifestyle and academic performance of female students aged 16 to 25.

Employing a quantitative correlational study design, the research explores patterns and associations between
Kdrama consumption, lifestyle changes, and academic performance.

The sample consists of 160 students within the specified age range, selected through convenience and snowball
sampling methods. Structured questionnaires, incorporating scales from Rahmiati (2012) and Bollas et al. (2020),
were administered through Google Forms.

Three key variables—Kdrama addiction, Korean lifestyle, and academic performance—were measured. Rahmiati's
scales assess the Korean wave's impact on culture acceptance and life style, while Bollas et al.'s work investigates
the effects of Kdrama addiction on academic performance.

Quantitative data analysis, utilizing SPSS, includes descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation) and Pearson
correlation analysis to evaluate relationships between Kdrama consumption, lifestyle changes, and academic
performance.

The above mentioned data show that amongst the gender, the k-drama had more female audiences.
The reception of k-dramas was more popular among the females as compared to the male.
DISCUSSION

- The correlation matrix displays Pearson correlation coefficients between between Kdrama addiction and lifestyle
choices among female students ranging .677 and it analysis reveals a moderate positive link , supported by a highly
significant p-value of 0.001. It accepted alternative hypothesis suggest a significant impact of Korean dramas on the
lifestyle of female students, aligning with a study by Sungsoo Kim and Iffat Tahira (2022) showing positive
relationships within the Korean Wave and lifestyle choices.

- The analysis indicates a positive but weak linear relation between Kdrama addiction and academic performance
among female students range.182. This suggests a notable connection between Kdrama watching hours and academic
achievements. The correlation is statistically significant at the <0.05 level, supporting the alternative non-directional
hypothesis. Evidence from Carbonell et al. (2017) reinforces the idea that Kdrama addiction can impact academic
success.

- - The correlation displays Pearson correlation coefficients between Kdrama lifestyle and academic performance
significant positive but weak linear relationship among female students ranging .293, supported by a highly significant
p-value of 0.001. This finding confirms the non-directional hypothesis. The study by Semilla and Soriano (2017)
supports the idea that K-dramas can influence students' lifestyle, behaviors, and academic performance.
05 CONCLUSION

In summary, the discussion highlights the dual impact of Kdrama addiction on female students'
lifestyles and academic performance. Supported by studies and statistics, the research emphasizes
both positive and negative implications. These findings underscore the need to consider the well-
being and academic outcomes of this demographic. Given the global popularity of Korean
entertainment, the study contributes crucial insights into the intricate connection between media
consumption, lifestyle choices, and academic success among young female students. While
correlations offer valuable insights, caution is warranted in drawing causal conclusions, urging
further research to delve into the underlying mechanisms of observed associations.

Findings reveal a positive link between Kdrama addiction and adopting a Korean lifestyle,
suggesting a connection between the two interests. However, a negative correlation exists between
Kdrama addiction and academic performance, raising concerns about its potential impact on
achievements. On a positive note, embracing a Korean lifestyle is correlated with higher academic
success, hinting at a positive influence on academic outcomes.
Recommendation
Promote awareness on excessive Kdrama's impact on academics through programs emphasizing time
management and balancing entertainment with studies. Encourage a moderated media approach,
prioritizing academic responsibilities. Offer counseling for students struggling academically due to
media consumption, addressing underlying issues for improved outcomes. Introduce cultural
appreciation programs to foster a positive learning environment, potentially contributing to academic
success. Conduct research on the long-term effects of Kdrama consumption, exploring variables
influencing the relationship between media, lifestyle, and academics. Acknowledge individual
differences and contextual factors for a nuanced approach to recommendations.

Limitation
This study has limitations: it was conducted only in Mumbai, a city with easy entertainment access,
impacting result generalization. Other big cities influenced by the Korean Wave were not considered.
Sample diversity in terms of age groups and genres was limited. Future research should include larger,
more representative samples from diverse cities, age groups, and ethnic backgrounds for improved
accuracy and broader applicability.
