RATIONALE

 Why the researchers chose this study?


INTRODUCTION

 Korean dramas over the Philippines became such a phenomenon. In this generation, most
Filipinos are addicted to watching K-dramas, especially teenagers. According to Posadas A.J et al
(2021) K-dramas have become a staple in Philippine TV. Academic performances of students
according to Jafari, et al., (2019) is one of the fundamental markers used to assess the nature of
training in colleges. Filipino teenagers like students are engaged in watching Korean dramas and
tends to sacrifice their time to sleep, food, communication, family bonding, and school stuff just
to watch Korean drama and get crazy over watching it. The researchers will learn if Korean
Drama can affect or will benefit the students academically.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
 Academic Performance - A rating of students’ achievement on how it will be the determining factor for students to pass certain courses.

 Effects - How something changes that is produced by an action or a cause.

 Entertainment - An activity or a form of art that gives pleasure and satisfaction to people’s interests by allotting time in doing so. 

 Influenced - It is how a person is affected by a phenomenon, in a way that causes a change to their behavior and cultural belief.

 K-Drama Addiction - It is a cultural influence that affects a person's behavior through watching Korean dramas extensively.

 Korean Drama - Television series that are popular worldwide that shows the Korean culture through the use of theatrical acts that

are internationally widespread and available in many streaming platforms.


 Korean Wave - Also known as Hallyu which is a phenomenal popularity growth of the Korean culture that influences individuals whether

it is through music, movies, tradition, drama to other countries.


 Popularity - It is how a person is in a quality state of being liked, enjoyed, or in favor by a large group of people.

 Trend - It is how a situation develops within a culture that urges a person or a social group to follow in a period of time.

2.0.1 Watching Korean Drama


 Kpop and Kdrama are the most prominent Hallyu indicators, as well as the drivers of the other rising Hallyu
coverage. (Blas, et al, 2020)
 K-Dramas are for the most part known for having high creation esteem, extraordinary and frequently
immersing storylines, and quality acting that helps assemble a passionate association between the characters
and the crowd. (Regina, 2021)
 South Korean culture and the media which it has created have become undeniably more omnipresent.
(Timothy, 2021)
 Korean drama has become significantly more famous these days as more crowds outside Asia are trapped in
the now-worldwide Korean wave. (Ryan, 2017)
 Korean Drama has become a powerful influence on the lifestyle of individuals. (Lee, 2014)

2.0.2 Academic Performance


 The academic performance of students is one of the fundamental markers used to assess the nature of
training in colleges. (Jafari, et al, 2019)
 The most basic input in the education production function: a student's study effort. (Stinebrickner, et. al,
2008)
 Variables, including financial status, students' demeanor and inspiration, peer, and parental help impact
scholastic execution. (Sarwat, et al, 2021)
 Academic Performance has consistently been related to character qualities such as passionate hastiness.
(Martin, et al, 2017)
 environmental variables and school socialization processes that might affect student motivation and
subsequent performance. (Wentzel & Wigfield, 1998)
VARIABLE DISCUSSION

2.0.3 Grade 12 STEM Students


 Educators from higher education deliver challenging, well-rounded education and great STEM instruction by
concentrating on student involvement. (Kennedy, et. al, 2014)
 STEM high school is defined to provide students with more intensive STEM preparation than traditional
high schools and expresses the goal of preparing all students to succeed in STEM. (Means et. al, 2017)
 STEM strand will benefit students to engage in inquiry, engage in learning logical reasoning, collaborate as a
team, and apply technology appropriately. (Bolds, 2017)
 it is still up to the grade 12 STEM students what courses they want to pursue. (Rafanan, 2020)
 Self-managed learning is an important factor in students’ academic achievement. (Zimmerman and Schunk,
2001)
