The Korean Wave (Hallyu) refers to the global popularity of South Korea’s

cultural economy exporting pop culture, entertainment, music, TV dramas and movies

(Roll, 2018). Hyejung (2007) stated that Korean Culture has popularly boom in

neighbouring countries over the past several years 2000 through 2002 that reached an

active penetration stage.

Filipino students nowadays are much influenced to Korean culture particularly in

Korean dramas, music and fashion (Santamaria, 2012). In fact the study of Agatep (2014)

also determined that most school in Philippines has been conquered by the K-pop music

and has ruled the school. However the high consumption of K-pop culture may affect the

learning of students. According to the survey of Yuchen and Yici (2015) 62% of the

students think that staying up watching Korean dramas may affect their learning the next

day and it may also affect the grades on their school work in the long term.

According to the study of Hicap (2010) the rising of popularity of K-pop in the

accompanied with how they dress up. Ryoo (2007) also added that Korean culture is

relatable and acceptable to Korean audiences. While Hardin (2008) generalized that

that has been impacted by their consumption of K-pop these are music choices, fashion

choices, habits, social life and beliefs.

However Ryoo (2009) stated that Hallyu should not be treated as a superior

among any other culture for she examined that it is just an impact of globalization from

the west band. Escobia and Esin (2013) also seconded that invasion of Korean Culture in
