A computer network is a group of computers
connected together with an aim of sharing resources
and communication.
Resources such as files,
printers, processor power
etc
History of Internet
Internet started in Bell labs in the US in 1990.
There was need for more reliable communication in the army
forces.
Internet was at first having only text, without pictures,
videos or animations.
Internet was later on used for carrying out research work by
major Universities in the developed countries and for sharing
such information between students.
Internet access was possible with the use of satellite dishes
Requirements for establishing Internet
connection
• Computer with network card
• Modem
• Electricity
• Router
• Ethernet cables (for wired connections)
• Internet Service Provider (ISP)
• Internet Browser (e.e Firefox)
• Configuration of network
Modem
• Stands for modulator/demodulator
• Converts analogue signals to digital signals and vice
versa
 Router
• They direct network traffic to their destinations so that what
you request for on the internet comes to your computer and
not to another person
Ethernet cable
Internet Service Provider
• You have to buy data from them so that they give you Internet Access
• Examples;

Internet Browsers
• They are programs which you use for viewing webpages on the
internet.

 How to connect to the Internet
• Using USB Modem
• Plug a USB modem or router to the computer
• Open modem software and click connect
• You are connected.

• Using Wi-fi
• Turn on wifi on your device(Computer/laptop/smartphone/tab/iPad)
• Search for available Wifi networks
• Choose a network of your choice
• Enter its password if required
• Enjoy Internet

• Fix Ethernet cable from router to the network port on your computer
• Enjoy internet
