Activity 1
Find the answer
for each fruit.
85 ÷ 5
84 ÷ 6
56 ÷ 8
At the end of the lesson,
you should be able to
know and do the
following.
Represent and explain
Multiplication, Division,
Addition and Subtraction
(MDAS) correctly (LC)
Realize the
importance of
following rules
Follow the MDAS
rule in solving series
of operation
Lets Begin!
Have you experienced being absent from
school for a week because you were
sick? Upon returning, you had to take a
quiz or summative test on that day? How
did you feel?
Let’s analyze
this situation:
1) 5 x 4 -16 ÷ 8 =
2) 9 - 7 + 3 =
3) 18 - 12 ÷ 6 + 7 =
4)18 -12 ÷ 2 =
5) 16 ÷ 4 x 5 - 7 + 8 =
Do you think Tessie can answer the test
correctly? Why? What do you think will
she do? If you were her classmate, what
would you do to help her? What do you
feel when you help someone? Why?
Look at the
number sentence
below.
2x3+4=N
To solve these problems, you must use
a rule to arrive at the correct answer.
Here, the MDAS rule must be
followed strictly to get the correct
answer.
The rules
say that:
Rule 1: Multiply or
Divide first in the order
as they come from left
to right.
Rule 2: Add or Subtract
in the order as they come
from left to right.
Remember:
Do Multiplication or
Division first before you do
Addition and Subtraction
35 – 6 x 3 = N
Here are another
examples:
91 ÷ 9 + 40 – 24 = N
8x9+8=N
Activity 2:
Evaluate the
following
expressions:
Let’s apply
your skills!
If you will be given P500 by your
mother and ask you to buy 25 pieces
of juice from the store that costs P8
each, how much more was left from
your money that your mother gave
you?
How are you going to
apply MDAS in your
every day life?
To perform a series of operations, the
MDAS rule must be followed. The
MDAS stands for the 4 basic
operations -Multiplication. Division,
Addition, and Subtraction.
The rules say that: (1) multiply or
divide first in the order as they come
from left to right. Then, (2) add or
subtract in the order as they come
from left to right.
Activity 3:
Deal or No Deal!
The students will identify if they will
agree or disagree on the answers
given in each equation shown on
the board.
DEAL NO DEAL
6÷2+3=6
12 + 8 ÷ 2 = 10
36 ÷ 4 + 8 = 16
3 + 12 ÷ 4 = 6
7 x 4 – 5 = 23
