Rotate
• The Earth rotates, or spins, on its
axis.
• The axis is an imaginary line that
goes through its center.
• It takes 24 hours to complete one
rotation.
• 24 hours = 1 day
• The side of the Earth facing the Sun
has day.
• The side facing away from the Sun
has night

Does the Sun move?
• What do you think?
• No the Sun does not move. The
Earth moves around the Sun.
• We use sunrise and sunset because
we didn’t know that the Sun does
not move

Revolve
• The Earth also revolve, or goes
around, the Sun.
• Another word for it is orbit
• It takes just over 365 days for the
Earth to orbit around the Sun.
• The exact time is 365 and a quarter
day.
• 365 days = 1 year
• The Earths orbit causes the seasons
• Winter = less sunlight
• Summer = more sunlight
