Barrage
- a rapid, large-scale outpouring of something
Example:
The governor faced a barrage of questions about
the state budget cuts.
Bigot
- an intolerant, prejudice, or biased person
Example:
When you speak in that narrow-minded way,
you sound like a bigot.
Designate
- (v) to indicate, point out, approve,
- (adj.) selected but not yet installed
Example
• Will you please tell me when the coach will
designate a team leader?
• The new student council designate is looking
forward to making changes to the student
government.
Diversity
- difference, variety, a condition to having many
different types of forms
Example:
Our science teacher has a diversity of interests.
enigma
- someone or something that is extremely
puzzling; that can not be understood or
explained
Example:
Edward’s enigma was the Riddler in “Batman
Returns”.
Gloat
- to look at or think about with great intensity or
satisfaction; to take great personal joy in.
Example:
I will try not to gloat about winning a scholarship
to basketball camp.
Global
- of relating to or involving the entire world.
Example:
Countries have to work together to fight global
terrorism.
Illusion
- a false idea something that one seems to see
or to be aware of that really does not exist.
Example:
In a small space, a mirror creates the optical
illusion of a larger room.
Infuriate
- To make very angry – enrage
Example:
Whenever my children do something wrong it
infuriates me.
Motivate
- to provide with a reason for doing - to push on
to some goal or course of action
Example:
Friends should motivate each other to do better
in their project.
