BIODIVERSITY PARK

“NATURE IS DIVERSE, LET’S KEEP IT ALIVE”

REPORT ON AN
EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO
ARAVALI BIODIVERSITY PARK
LETS DISCUSS SOME FACTS ABOUT
ARAVALLI BIODIVERSITY PARK
Spread over 692 acres of land in south
central bridge........Started over 13 years ago in a
mined area, it was devoid of any species but vilayati
kikar
5 different types of forest patches
Now has 25 different types of animal species and over
80 kinds of birds
Different types of trees and shrubs planted to create
those native to the Aravalis
BUT WHY ARE ARAVALIS ARE SO
CRUCIAL?
 Help in the Groundwater recharge
 Home of hundreds of native plants and animal
 species
 Define the climate plant of the region, particularly
rain
 Act as a green barrier against deforestation
CONSERVATORY OF ORCHIDS
Orchids are considered as Royal family of
plants because of their beautiful flowers,
incredible shapes, magnificent colours,
fragrance, and long lasting nature. Delhi has
only one terrestial orchid species Zeuxine
sulcata and it is nearly extinct.
A small mined pit has been converted into
Orchidarium by growing shade in the
Conservatory are thunia alba, vanda cristata.
CONSERVATORY OF FERNS
 Small miming pits has been developed into fernery on the
similar pattern as that of Orchidarium, for the conservation
of ferns such as Pteris pellucida, Polystichum esculentum
etc. Ferns are very ancient group of non flowering plants.
Orchids and Ferns conservatories are unique and found only
in Aravalli biodiversity Park in delhi.
Lets Talk About Our Experiences...............
It been an amazing educational trip, where we learn about the
different floura and fauna. Learn about how a crime hub can
be transform to a biodiversity park with great habitat.
How lots of conservatory are made to protect the specics
which are almost extinct and a great experience to learn
about the mines how there used to be mining done for mica.
Learn about the medicinal benifits of the plants how they
used to treat the different types of problems of human
body.....overall an informative visit and a great experience
CONSERVATORY OF BUTTERFLIES
Butterflies and moths render pollination
service that make orchards to produce fruits
and seeds, crops to produce fruit,
vegetables. To bring back the winged
beauties to Delhi, the conservatory of the
butterfly has been created by planting more
than 100 species of host plants of butterflies.
 The conservatory has more than 100 species
of butterflies and months. The notable
species are red pierrot, Blues, Tiger moths,
Skippers, Swifts, etc.
MAMMALS
The ecologically diverse niches found within different
plant communities enriched animal communities.
The most common mammalian species found in the
Biotic communities are jackal, blue bull, mongoose.
AVIFAUNA
More than 190 species of birds
are present. The most common are
Babblers, Bee eaters, Cuckoos, Bulbuls,
Peafowl. Many Migratory birds species like
Red throated Flycatcher, Himalayan warblers
AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES
The enhanced moisture levels coupled
with thick leaf on the forest floor and
availability of water pits greatly
contributed in the enrichment of
amphibians and reptiles. A total of 29
species are present
INSECT’S DIVERSITY
 Insects play a major role in the
pollination of flowers, and also food base
for many animals at some stage life.
insects are entirely dipendent on
pollination.
There are 20 insects orders found.
