A LIVING

LIFESTYLE
OF
THANKSGIVING
PSALMS 116 : 1
PSALMS 116 : 17
I will offer to You
the sacrifice of
thanksgiving, and
will call upon the
name of the Lord.
But let me begin this
message by asking what
is your lifestyle as Christ
ambassador to this
millennial generation,
and what shall I render
to the Lord for all His
benefits towards me?
Psalm 116 celebrates God’s goodness. The
psalmist has experienced God’s grace in
manifold expressions. God has heard his
prayers (116:1). God delivered him from
death (116:3-6), guided his steps (116:8-
9), and freed him from chains (116:16).
Therefore, the psalmist loves the Lord and
offers him praise (116:1,19). Moreover, he
proclaims to God: “I will offer you a
sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the
name of the Lord” (116:17).
Among the sacrifices of the Old
Testament were offerings that were given
when people wanted to thank God in a
special way. These “thank offerings” were
among the “peace offerings” that were
presented to the Lord and then eaten by
the people in celebration (Lev. 7:15). The
writer of Psalm 116 may very well have
had such an offering in mind when he
spoke of offering “a sacrifice of
thanksgiving” to the Lord (116:17).
1.COSTLY
THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving often involves
sacrifice.
A. Thanksgiving often involves sacrifice.
Ps 116:17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of
thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of
the LORD.
1. Thanksgiving has been a part of God's plan
for His people from the very beginning.
a. He taught Adam and Eve…
b. They taught their children…
c. God instructed the Jews in the O.T.
d. He also instructs us today in His Word.
2. Thanksgiving isn't about our resources; it is
about our attitude.
3. But there will be a cost involved!
2 SAMUEL 24 :24(KJV)
Then the king said to Araunah,”No,
but I will surely buy it from you for
a prize; nor will I offer burnt
offerings to the Lord my God with
that which costs me nothing. So
David bought the threshing floor
and the oxen for fifthy shekels of
silver.
4. We do not offer up animals
for sacrifice today, because
Jesus did away with that…He
was the Lamb of God sacrificed
on Calvary.
5. Now it is our verbal praise
that is sacrificial.
Hebrews 13:15
By him therefore let us
offer the sacrifice of
praise to God continually,
that is, the fruit of our
lips giving thanks to his
name.
2. CORRECT
THANKSGIVING
