January 1 – Republic Act No. 11467, which increases the excise tax on alcohol products, electronic cigarettes, and heated tobacco
products, takes effect.[2]
January 6 – President Rodrigo Duterte signs Republic Act No. 11642, that seeks to simplify the process of adoption, as thousands
of children remained under government care while awaiting permanent homes.[3][4]
January 7:
Monsignors Lope Robredillo, Eutiquio "Euly" Belizar Jr., and Romeo Solidon, three priests of the Roman Catholic Diocese of
Borongan in Eastern Samar, are appointed by Pope Francis as the "Chaplains to His Holiness".[5][6][7][8][9]
Juanito Itaas, convicted in 1991 for his involvement in the 1989 killing of United States Army Col. James Rowe, and the
country's "longest held political prisoner" for 32 years, is released from prison through a court order allowing him to benefit from

The National Bureau of Investigation files murder complaints against 17 cops over the killing of two of nine activists killed during
the "Bloody Sunday" operations in March 7, 2021.[16][17][18]
India–Philippines relations: Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana announces that the Philippines has bought a $370-million
shore-based anti-ship missile project from India.[19][20] On January 28, the two countries signs the contract for the acquisition of
the BrahMos missile system.[21][22]

January 18 – Five persons who were involved in the reported fraudulent schemes targeting BDO Unibank Inc., in December 2021,
were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation in an entrapment operation in Mabalacat, Pampanga.[24][25][26][27] On January
26, DOJ indicts four individuals following its investigation of the fraud that hit the said bank.[28]
January 20 – The Department of Justice indicts nine police officers over the killings of former Calbayog City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino,
and his companions in March 8, 2021.[29][30]
January 31 – Pope Francis nominates Rev. Msgr. Arnaldo Catalan as the new apostolic nuncio to Rwanda.[31][32]

February 4 – The International Astronomical Union names "7431 Jettaguilar", in honor of Dr. Jose Francisco "Jett" Aguilar, a Filipino
medical doctor and amateur astronomer.[33]
February 5 – The US Federal Bureau of Investigation published religious leader Apollo Quiboloy as one of the most wanted list for
sex trafficking.[34][35][36]
February 12 – At least 9 people are killed after they were ambushed at Kalumamis Village in Guindulungan, Maguindanao.[37][38]
February 18:
Natividad Castro, a doctor, who is an advocate of Lumad communities in Mindanao, is arrested by members of PNP in was
arrested in San Juan City.[39][40] On March 25, the Bayugan City Regional Trial Court Branch 7, junks the kidnapping and
serious illegal detention case against Dr. Castro.[41] However on June 16, the Bayugan City Regional Trial Court Branch 7,
orders the re-arrest of Dr. Castro, months after the charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention were dismissed.[42]
Cagayan de Oro prosecutors junks seven cyber libel complaints against Rappler journalists, a professor and 3 former members
of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church over a series of articles accusing the religious group’s founder, Pastor Apollo
Quiboloy, of sexual abuse, trafficking and fraud, among other cases.[43]
February 21 – One police personnel dies while two others are confirmed injured when a helicopter of the PNP crashed in Real,
Quezon.[44][45]
February 22 – Philippines–Poland relations: The Philippines signs a contract for the purchase of 32 Black Hawk helicopters from
Poland worth US$624 million or more than ₱32 billion.[46]
February 23 – The Philippine government through the Anti-Terrorism Council formally declares 16 organizations which was
supposedly functioning as underground organizations of the communist groups as terrorists in its resolution dated January 26.[47][48]

The Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs approves a resolution to suspend the operations of online
cockfighting operators amid a series of disappearances linked to "e-sabong".[49]
The Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 11, rejects the bid of 10 fraternity members implicated in the September 2017 death of
University of Santo Tomas law student Horacio "Atio" Castillo III to junk the hazing case against them supposedly due to
insufficiency of evidence.[50]
February 28:
President Rodrigo Duterte signs Executive Order No. 164, approving the inclusion of nuclear power in the country's energy

March 2:

March 23 – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) revises its definition of
a super typhoon, as well as meanings of tropical cyclone wind signals, marking a shift in local forecasting.[69]
March 26 – Taal Volcano was placed on Alert Level 3 after its "main crater generated a short-lived phreatomagmatic burst," with

Pres. Duterte signs five laws declaring five separate areas nationwide, including Mount Pulag, Mount Arayat, and Tirad Pass, as

April 9-12 – Tropical Storm Megi (Agaton) devastates Visayas and major parts of Mindanao; reported death toll is 212, mostly from
landslides occurred in Baybay City and Abuyog in Leyte, while 132 are still missing. Damages are estimated at almost 5 billion

April 19 – The Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) launches "E-Reklamo", an online platform where the public can lodge complaints
about difficulties in government transactions, including permit application, tax payments, or other fees.[92]
April 26:
The Supreme Court in its deliberation denies with finality all motions for reconsideration of its December 7, 2021 decision which
challenge the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 (Republic Act No. 11479) to declare it as unconstitutional.[93] Due to lack of substantial
issues and arguments raised by petitioners, the high court's judgement resulted to reject their motions.[94]
Global Digital Media associate professor Jonathan Ong has named a 2022 Andrew Carnegie Fellow by Carnegie Corporation of
New York.[95]
April 27:
The Supreme Court rules that the Bonifacio Global City complex, along with several surrounding barangays of Makati is owned
by Taguig.[96] However, the city government of Makati will pursue all legal remedies through an appeal against the said ruling.[97]
At least four people are killed while 15 others injured after the old Clarin Bridge collapsed over Loboc River in Loay, Bohol.[98]
The country's longest bridge connecting Cebu City and Cordova, Cebu, part of the Cebu–Cordova Link Expressway project, is

said elections as a special holiday.[115] Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos and Davao City mayor Sara Duterte are elected president
and vice president, respectively; twelve senators led by Robin Padilla, and 55 party-lists with ACT-CIS Partylist winning the most

May 12 – The national government orders to adopt digital payments for disbursements and collections of the government through
Executive Order No. 170.[117] This is due to being seen as cashless transaction booms in the last two years in Southeast Asia.[118]

Former Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro FSC has been named the 28th successor of St. John Baptist de La Salle,
making him the first Filipino to become the Superior General of the De La Salle Brothers worldwide.[119]
Newspaper columnist and former special envoy for public diplomacy to China Ramon Tulfo was arrested for cyber libel based on
the warrant issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 24 Presiding Judge Maria Victoria A. Soriano-Villadolid.[120]
May 21 – Pope Francis approves the promulgation of a decree granting the title of Venerable to the Servant of God Archbishop

May 23 – A fire hits a passenger ferry off the coast of Real, Quezon; leaving nine people dead and 27 others injured.[122][123]

The Supreme Court upholds the 2016 Sandiganbayan verdict convicting NBN-ZTE deal whistleblower Jun Lozada of graft

May 31:
The Court of Appeals upholds the 2018 conviction of retired general Jovito Palparan and two other Army officers in connection
to the 2006 abduction and disappearance of two University of the Philippines students, Karen Empeño and Sherlyn

June 2:
After six months in detention, Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation officials Mohit Dargani and Linconn Ong are released from
the Pasay City Jail.[133]
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra confirms that NBI-Cybercrime Investigation and assessment Center head Vic Lorenzo has
been relieved amid an ongoing investigation over an alleged anomalous operation in Manila.[134]
Pope Francis names former Manila Archbishop Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle as one of the new members of the Vatican
Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of Sacraments.[135][136]
The Office of the Ombudsman orders the suspension of Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) Director General Jeremiah Belgica and
four other officials of the agency, after an ongoing investigation on alleged graft and corruption found strong evidence of

June 3:

Sandiganbayan convicts businessman Cedric Lee and a former municipal mayor of Mariveles, Bataan for malversation in

The Office of the Ombudsman files graft charges before the Sandiganbayan against 42 Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel
who were allegedly involved in the "pastillas scam", or bribery, that allowed the illegal entry of Chinese citizens into the
country.[146]
Sandiganbayan convicts Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay Jr. of three counts of graft in connection with mismanagement of
funds of Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).[147][148]
June 8:
Dr. Gay Jane P. Perez, the deputy head of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA) is elected as president of the International
Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Technical Commission on Education and Outreach, the first Filipino
to hold the position according to the agency.[149][150]
The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) orders internet service providers (ISPs) to block websites allegedly linked
to "communist-terrorists" upon request by National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon, Jr.[151]
June 9 – More than 80 individuals, who took part in an activity related to a land dispute in Hacienda Tinang, Concepcion, Tarlac, are
arrested.[152][153] They would be released on June 13;[154][155] charges against them would be dismissed by a municipal trial
court.[156][157]
June 14 – The Sandiganbayan stops the graft and malversation trial against former Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)
chairperson Zenaida Ducut due to her dementia diagnosis.[158]
June 15:
The Philippines is elected to be the member of the United Nations body that facilitates the implementation of the United Nations
Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).[159]
The Anti-Terrorism Council publicly announces its resolutions dated May 25, formally declaring Luis Jalandoni, former chief
negotiator of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, and five other suspected communist rebel leaders, as well as five

The Supreme Court publicly releases its decision on November 16, 2021, that photos and messages gathered by private
persons from a social media account are allowed to be presented as evidence in court.[164][165]
The Philippine government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signs a loan agreement for the first tranche of the $4.3-
billion financing for South Commuter Railway project, the southern leg of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project,
connecting Metro Manila and Calamba, Laguna.[166]
June 18 – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) places the Luzon power grid under a red alert status due to
insufficient power supply, which briefly affected electricity services to over 1 million customers in Metro Manila and adjacent

June 22 – USS Samuel B. Roberts, a US Navy destroyer sunk during World War II has been found nearly 7,000 meters below sea

President Rodrigo Duterte signs Executive Order No. 174, that creating new position titles for school teachers.[172]
President Rodrigo Duterte signs Memorandum Order No. 62, that ordered the abolition of state-run First Cavite Industrial Estate,
Inc. (FCIEI), saying it was no longer serving its purpose.[173]
The Sandiganbayan allows former Quezon City councilor and actor Roderick Paulate to present a Commission on Audit (COA)
official as witness for his defense involving the graft and falsification of public documents charges filed against him over alleged
hiring of bogus employees.[174]

International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan requests a pre-trial chamber to authorize the resumption of the

The Sandiganbayan allows President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr., and his family to present defense evidence in
their defense in connection with an ill-gotten wealth case filed against them in 1987.[177]
Former Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi withdraws his libel and cyberlibel complaints against ABS-CBN Corporation and 6 other
news organizations over their stories on the Malampaya deal.[178]
June 25 – The National Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City has been declared by the Vatican as the

June 26 – A ferry sailing between the islands of Bohol and Leyte, carrying 165 passengers is engulfed with fire causing one dead
and a missing person.[183]
June 28:
The Securities and Exchange Commission affirms its previous order to revoke the certificates of incorporation of Rappler Inc.
and Rappler Holdings Corporation.[184] The order shuts down the latter as being one of the news agencies deemed critical of the
outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte.[185] Maria Ressa, the co-founder of the online news organization in 2012 said "We're not
shutting down", in a statement.[186]
The Supreme Court junks the disqualification and cancellation of certificate of candidacy (COC) cases against president-elect
Bongbong Marcos.[187]
The International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) declares that the May 2022 national and local elections
in the Philippines did not meet the standards of free, honest, and fair voting due to numerous reports of human rights violations
and incidents pointing to fraud.[188]
June 29 – Outgoing Vice President Leni Robredo ends her term on a high note after her office receives the highest audit rating from
the Commission on Audit for the fourth straight year since 2018.[189][190]

The Supreme Court publicly releases its decision on March 9, 2022, affirming the Office of the Ombudsman’s decision to
subpoena the bank accounts of former President Joseph Estrada and his alleged mistresses.[191][192]

The Apo Reef Natural Park in Occidental Mindoro receives the platinum-level Blue Park Award from the Marine Conservation
International at this year's United Nations Ocean Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, joining Palawan's Tubbataha Reefs Natural

July 2 – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirms it had filed murder complaints against 22 police officers of the National
Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for the deaths of eight New Bilibid Prison inmates who supposedly died of COVID-19.[203]
July 4–23 – The Commission on Elections sets the voter registration in holding the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections
in December.[204]
July 5 – The Sandiganbayan finds retired Major General Carlos Garcia guilty beyond reasonable doubt of direct bribery and
facilitating money laundering, sentencing him to four years to eight years of imprisonment.[205]

The Supreme Court (SC) suspends Manila Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 26 Presiding Judge Jorge Emmanuel Lorredo for 30
days for uttering homophobic slurs against 2 of his litigants in court.[208]

Holidays
