• Is the life support system structure that
nourishes our cells with nutrients from the
food we eat and oxygen we breathe.
• Functions with other body systems to deliver
different materials in the body such as
oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nutrients and
also wastes materials away from the body
THE HEART

•A hollow muscle that


pumps blood throughout
the body
CHAMBERS OF THE HEART
ATRIA (s. Atrium)

- The two upper receiving chambers of


the body that accepts blood from the
body and from the lungs.
VENTRICLES (s. ventricle)

- The two lower pumping chambers of


the body that pumps blood to the
different parts of the body.
VALVE

• A muscle that acts as a one-way door


keeps the blood moving in one
direction and prevents it from flowing
backwards

TYPES OF CIRCULATION

1. PULMONARY CIRCULATION
- Movement of the blood from the heart, to the
lungs, and back to the heart
2. CORONARY CIRCULATION
- Movement of blood through the tissues of
the heart
3. SYSTEMIC CIRCULATION
- Movement of the blood from the heart to
the rest of the body, excluding the lungs
