THE IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON POLITICAL VIEWS AS

PERCEIVED BY SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS AT DON JOSE INTEGRATED

DEFINITION OF TERMS:

Political Views - refer to an individual's or group's opinions, beliefs, and perspectives on various political matters
and ideologies.
Ideological Orientation - Political views can reflect an individual's ideological orientation, such as liberalism,
conservatism, socialism, libertarianism, or nationalism.
Political Identity - Political views can also be tied to an individual's political identity or self-perception.
Values and Beliefs - Political views can stem from an individual's values, beliefs, and worldview.
Partisan affiliation - refers to an individual's formal or informal association with a particular political party or
ideological group.
OBJECTIVES:

1: To examine the extent to which social media influences the formation and development
of political views among young individuals.
2: To analyze the role of social media pplatforms in shaping the ideological preferences
and partisan affiliations of youth, and identifying any potential biases or echo chambers
that may exist within these platforms.
3: To assess the impact of social media on youth political engagement, including their
participation in political discussions, their involvement in social movements, and their
likelihood to vote or take political action.
INTRODUCTION:
Political views play a crucial role in shaping societies and influencing the direction of public policy. They are
reglections of individuals' beliefs, values, and ideologies regarding governance social issues, and the distribution of
power. In the digital age, social media has emerged as a powerful platform that has significantly impacted the
formation and dissemination of political views. With its ability to connect people globally and provide a platform
for free expression, social media has revolutionized the way political information is consumed and shared.

Social media platforms has resulted in both positive and negative consequences, as social media's influence on
political views has created a new opportunities and challenges for individuals, communities, and political system.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This study aims to examine the impact of social media on the political views of senior
high students. It seeks to understand how social media influence political attitudes, beliefs.
and engagement of the senior high.

GENERAL PROBLEM:
1. What are potential positive and negative consequences of social media's impact on the
political views and participation of senior high school students,
SPECIFIC PROBLEMS:

1. What types of social media platforms do you use the most that shape your political
views?
2. How many hours do you spend using social media?
3. What are the effects of social media on the political views of senior high students such
as ideological orientation, political identity, values and beliefs?
4. Is there significant relationship between social media and political views on senior high
students?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research aims to provide information on how social media shape the political views
and participation of the youth. This study helps the following:
For youth:
Understanding how social media influences their political views and engagement
empowers young individuals to critically evaluate information online, make informed
decisions, and acactively participate in politics.
For teacher:
Teachers gain insights into the digital landscape in which their students are immersed,
enabling them to incorporate these findings into their teaching strategies.

For future researchers:


The study provides a foundation for future researchers to build upon existing knowledge
and expand the understanding of how social media influences the youth.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS:

It focuses on how social media platforms influence the political views of senior high
school students. The political views include ideological orientation, political identity,
Values and belief, and engagement of the senior high students.

This study is limited to the 100 Senior high students at Don Jose Integrated School within
the day of surveying.
