5 harms of excessive use of electronic games

It's not news to anyone that technology brings both benefits and harm to
Internet users. A case that exemplifies this point well is the electronic games,
which at the same time that allow a moment of relaxation and fun, and can also
contribute to the logical thinking of the player, are also responsible for several
harmful damage to health when used excessively and without control.
Therefore, it is extremely important to pay attention to game time. It is
recommended, for children aged 10 and over, not to exceed two hours a day.
Thus, elucidating the aforementioned time limit, we list 5 harms that video
games in excess can cause:

1 - Lack of concentration

One of the consequences of the excess of electronic games is the lack of

concentration in activities other than video games. And this can make learning
difficult at school, young people who spend hours in front of the computer or
television are very easily distracted during class.

2 – Obesity

The lack of physical activities is increasingly present in the daily lives of children
and adolescents, as they choose to play video games instead of exercising.
This fact considerably increases the chances of these internet users becoming
obese, which in the future can cause serious health problems.

3 - Dry eye syndrome

The frequency of light damages the eyes and excessive exposure can trigger
this syndrome that develops with the lack of lubrication of the eye. It causes an
irritation similar to conjunctivitis and the eye may become dry, red and inflamed.
The main symptoms are discomfort and light sensitivity.
4 – Hearing problems

It is very common for people to play with the use of headphones at a very high
volume and, contrary to what you might think, this long-term practice has
several consequences, one of which is the symptoms of hearing loss at a young
age. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the volume of the headphones
and how long it is being used.

5 – Inappropriate posture

Due to excessive play, which is often practiced sitting, posture tends to be kept
wrong and this can trigger discomfort such as lordosis, herniated disc or
scoliosis. To avoid these back problems it is important to take a break from the
game to stretch. However, the proper thing is not to spend hours playing, but a
short period of time.

Thinking about the importance of approaching this subject with its clients, the
Legião da Boa Vontade (LBV), in Araçatuba, SP, held an educational lecture
entitled “The risks of games and electronic games in children and youth”.

On the occasion, Fábio Henrique Resta Quirino da Silva, gamer and sportsman
from the INTZ and Sports Clube Fortnite team, was present and developed a
conversation circle with the children and teenagers.

On the occasion, the player spoke a little about his trajectory as a sportsman in
online games and made the little ones aware of the risks of games and
electronic games in children and youth.

The athlete also emphasized the basics of video games and virtual sports,
highlighting their benefits and harms in various areas of cognitive development.

The athlete also left a message for those assisted by the LBV: “When we
received the invitation to minister the conversation with the children, we were
happy and eager to come. And as I'm here talking to you what I'm saying is
never to give up on your dreams whatever the size of it, don't let others tell you
that you're not going to make it. And always obey your parents in the rules
placed in the games and in everything, after all, games are fun for you and who
knows in the future it could be a profession. Congratulations to everyone for the
magnificent work we have seen here with these children”, he concluded.
