South African Sign language Communication Module – Semester 2
Assessment Schedule

Assessment Requirements Lesson

Theory assessment is a multiple choice based on
Theory Assessment (on Lessons 1- lessons 1 - 4 Own time
4) – 40 Marks

This assessment tests receptive skills – how well

you can watch someone signing and interpret. Lesson 12
Learn SASL vocab well and pay attention to the
Communicative Receptive Task –
SASL sentence structure. SASL language
30 Marks conventions in context will be assessed.

This assessment tests expressive skills – how well

you can sign using the vocab given and using the Lesson 18
parameters as well as SASL sentence structure.
Communicative Expressive Task –
30 Marks
 Three assessments for this module.
 Use the schedule provided as your guide and plan to revise and study accordingly
 You will require a phone/laptop camera that records clearly. It will be required
for your expressive assessment.
 Assessments must be handed in on time. Marking is very time consuming
especially for the expressive assessment as each video of each student is watched
individually and then marked.
 Make sure all videos are watched before sending to me. It must be clear so I can
see your face and signing space clearly. If I can not see your hands and your face
clearly, assessing the use of parameters is not possible. Therefore I suggest that
you position your camera or phone correctly capturing your signing space.
 Ensure your videos are saved so that we can retrieve them if lost due to technical
difficulty.
 Questions

1.What is Deafness?
2.What are the causes of
Deafness?
3.How much do you know
about Deaf people?
4.Do you know about Deaf
education in South Africa?
