Development of science in ancient
culture

 Ancient period is the longest period of human
civilization
 Dates back to over 7000 years ago
 The important milestones during this period are
1) Oral transfer of knowledge
2) Development of writing
3) Astronomical information
4) Mathematics and medicine

A wave of innovation
powered by a war

 The world have experienced a tremendous S&T
development after the 2nd world war:
 The first rocket more than 100 miles into space
 The first transistor from Bell Labs
 Emerging of sonar, radar, microwave
 Development of Semiconductor device and computer

No one was seriously predicting pocket calculator, mobile phones, PCs, internet, etc.
A world with full of
optimism

 Right after this innovation wave, movie, books,
comics were full of various depicting space travel,
intelligent robots, instant communication etc…

 But, the future did not exactly work out like that…

 We found new thing to do with our technology and

time, creating new devices, new industries etc.
Industrial revolution

 Today, we live in a ‘digital everything’ world. Our
transistors are now smaller than a flu virus.
 The Fourth Industrial Revolution is the trend towards
automation and data exchange in manufacturing
technologies and processes which include cyber-physical
systems (CPS), IoT, industrial internet of things, cloud
computing, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence.
In next Industrial
revolution

 Microprocessor has changed everything.

Foundations of future
progress

 Based on the understanding of the fundamental
science, it is like to see in the future a number of
discovery:
 Intersection of bio, Nano, information technology,
artificial intelligence, renewable energy, etc.
 A hybrid material world where interface between
Nano and bio is blurred.

Changes to come

 Automobile and transports:
 New materials are like to use to minimize the drag.
 Ultrasonic electric vehicle with high efficiency
battery and programmable skin with any color, self
repairing all mirror, driverless with programmable
destination.
Changes to come
 Telecommunications:

 Optical fiber will installed to every node in order to
deliver 10 Gb/s to anything for monitoring,
communication and control.

 Design:
 Today CAD will be augmented with AI system, based
on the previous experience to create the new
generation of machine with details and displacing
large part (if not totally) of human hand.
Changes to come
 Energy:

 Storage is the key problem of the progress. We have
no shortage of energy or the means to produce it, but
we have to focus on the those solution that minimize
ecological damage.

 Human Interface:
 Able to input and output directly to and from the
brain.
