public space by an individual or group
- ranges from simple written words to elaborate
wall paintings
Land Art
- making use of natural materials such as stones,
water, gravel, fallen tree branches, leaves,
feathers, shells, and soil
- more unusual such as animal bones or skulls,
fur, ice or snow, or animal tracks might also be
used
Collage
- made from an assemblage of different forms,
thus creating a new whole
- may sometimes include magazines and
newspaper clippings, ribbons, paints, bits or
handmade colored papers, portions of other
artwork or text, photographs, and other found
objects glued to a piece of paper or canvas
Décollage
- a French word which means taking off,
ungluing, or unsticking some parts of existing
images
- created by cutting, tearing away, or otherwise
removing pieces of an original image
Printmaking
- an artistic process based on the principle of
transferring images from a matrix onto another
surface, most often paper or fabric
a. Woodcut
- the oldest form of printmaking
- a relief process in which knives and other
tools are used to carve a design into the
surface of a wooden block
b. Engraving
- an intaglio printmaking process in which
lines are cut into a metal plate (made of
copper or zinc) in order to hold the ink
- the metal plate is first polished to remove
all scratches and imperfections from the
surface so that only the intentional lines will
be printed
c. Etching
- an intaglio printmaking process in which
lines or areas are incised using acid into a
metal plate (made of iron, copper, or zinc)
in order to hold the ink
- the plate is covered evenly with a layer of
acid-resistant varnish or wax which is called
the ground
d. Lithograph
- a printmaking process in which a design is
drawn onto a flat stone and affixed by
means of a chemical reaction
- the design is drawn first directly onto a
polished slab of limestone using an oil-
based lithographic crayon or ink
e. Screenprinting
- a process where ink is forced through a
mesh screen onto a surface
- making certain areas of the screen
impervious to printing ink creates a stencil,
which blocks the printing ink from passing
through the screen
Digital Art
- also referred to as “computer art” or
“multimedia art”
- an artistic work or practice that uses digital
technology as part of the creative or
presentation process
Mixed Media
- an artwork in which more than one medium or
material has been employed
- makes use of different materials including
cloth, paper, wood, and found objects
- assemblages and collages are two common
examples
