The Periodic

table
• It is the arrangement
of elements according
to the increasing
atomic number.
* Metals are on the
left side, while the
nonmetals are on
the right side.

As we process
through the groups,
the nonmetallic
increases and the
metallic character
decreases.
In this lesson, we are going to talk
about only 4 groups in the periodic
table ( group 1, group 2, group 7 and
group 8 )
Group 1 ( Alkali metals )
Mass increases

Density increases

Reactivity increases

Boiling and melting

point decrease
Group 2 (Alkali earth metals)

They have the same properties

as group 1 (Mass increase, …..)

- Remark: When reacted with

water, it produces metal
hydroxide plus hydrogen ex:
sodium + water
sodium hydroxide+ hydrogen
Group 7 (Halogens)
F: Yellow gas
Cl: yellowish green gas
Br: Brown liquid
I:
1- Dark grey solid

2- Purple Gas

As: Black solid

As we go down the group: mass, density, Boiling,
and melting point increase while reactivity decreases
