INTRODUCTION
• What is Research Methodology?
• Research methodology is the specific procedures or techniques used to identify,
select, process, and analyze information about a topic.
• What is its importance?
• It provides a solid foundation for any research, ensuring that the work is logical,
structured, and recognized by the academic community.

Types of Research Methodologies
• Qualitative
• This method focuses on understanding phenomena from a human perspective. It often
involves interviews, case studies, and observations.
• Quantitative
• This method is about quantifying relationships between variables. It often involves surveys
and experiments.
• Mixed Methods
• This methodology combines qualitative and quantitative methods to provide a more
complete understanding of the research problem.

Steps of Research Methodology
• Define the Research Problem
• Clearly identify and define the problem you wish to research.
• Literature Review
• Review existing literature related to the research problem.
• Design the Study
• Determine how you will collect and analyze data.
• Data Collection
• Collect data using the methods identified in the study design.
• Data Analysis
• Analyze the data to draw conclusions about your research problem.

Choosing Right Method
• Understanding the Research Question
• The first step in choosing the right methodology is to understand your research question. What are you trying to
find out? What kind of data will you need to answer this question?
• Consider Your Resources
• Different methodologies require different resources. Do you have access to the necessary equipment for data
collection? Do you have the time and manpower to collect and analyze the data?
• Your Experience and Skills
• It’s important to consider your own skills and experience. If you’re not familiar with a particular methodology, it
might be better to stick with what you know, or take the time to learn about it before you start.
• Alignment with Research Objectives
• The chosen methodology should align with your research objectives.

Examples
• Example 1: Qualitative Study on the Experiences of New Immigrants
• Research Question: How do new immigrants experience cultural adaptation in their host country?
• Methodology: This study could use a qualitative methodology. This involves conducting in-depth interviews with new
immigrants to gather stories about their experiences.
• Why this Methodology: This allows the researcher to delve deep into the personal experiences of the participants, providing rich
and detailed data that can help us understand the complexities of cultural adaptation.
• Example 2: Quantitative Study on the Correlation Between Social Media Use and Anxiety Levels
• Research Question: Is there a correlation between the amount of time spent on social media and levels of anxiety in young
adults?
• Methodology: This study could use a quantitative methodology. This involves collecting data on both social media use and
anxiety levels and analyzing the relationship between the two.
• Why this Methodology? : A correlational design allows the researcher to measure the strength and direction of the relationship
between two variables. This can provide evidence of a link between social media use and anxiety, although it cannot prove
causation.
