A. Discovery of Katipunan

What happened? Discovery of Katipunan


When did it happen? August 19,1896
Why did it happen? Katipunan as a secret organization was
revealed by Teodoro Patiño, a Katipunero and a laborer of
Diario de Manila.
How did it happen? Patiño shared the secret to his sister,
Honoria who was under the care of a nun and who was also
advised him to confess it to Padre Pedro Gil.

B. Cry of Pugad Lawin

What happened? Tearing of cedulas of the Katipuneros as a signal


of start of Philippine revolution
When did it happen? August 23, 1896
Where did it happen? Balintawak, Caloocan
Why did it happen? Because of the discovery of Katipunan all
suspected members of Katipunan were arrested and where put to jail
in Fort Santiago
How did it happen? The Katipuneros tore their cedulas as a signal of
revolution while they were shouting, ”We are free from slavery. Long
live the Philippines!” The cedula symbolizes that Filipinos are under
the Spaniards and they are taxpayers.

C. The Revolution after the Cry of Pugad Lawin
What happened? After the Cry of Pugad Lawin, Andres
Bonifacio and his men raided San Juan Del Monte
When did it happen? August 30, 1896
Where did it happen? San Juan Del Monte
Why did it happen? When Katipunan was discovered,
Andres Bonifacio together with the members of Katipunan
started to revolt against the Spaniards to end Spanish abuses.
How did it happen? The revolution spread in the provinces
of Manila, Laguna, Bulucan, Batangas, Cavite Pampanga,
Tarlac and Nueva Ecija. Because the Revolution is
widespread, Governor-General Blanco put these provinces
under Martial Law. The revolution did not stop, it even
reached the provinces of Iloilo, Negros, Aklan and Palawan.
D. The Execution of Jose Rizal at Bagumbayan
What happened? Governor-General Ramon was
replaced by Governor- General Camilo Polavieja who
was rude and hard. He was the one who ordered the
arrest, torture, and exile of Filipinos who were
suspected of rebellion. He also signed the execution
of Dr. Jose Rizal
When did it happen? December 30, 1896
Where did it happen? Bagumbayan (Luneta Park)
Why did it happen? Dr. Jose Rizal was suspected as
the leader of Katipunan and instigated as the
mastermind of rebellion which started the 1896
revolution
How did it happen? Because of the charges filed
against him, he was sentenced to die by firing squad
on December 30,1896 at Bagumbayan. His death
motivated the Filipinos to revolt against the Spaniards
.
E. Tejeros Convention
What happened? The death of Jose Rizal agitated the
Filipinos. It gave them strength to keep on with their struggle
against the Spaniards. During that time Katipunan has two Daniel Tirona
provincial Councils: The Magdiwang headed by Bonifacio and
the Magdalo which Aguinaldo was a member. The jealousies
between the two factions adversely affected the the Katipunan.
When did it happen? March 20,1897
Where did it happen? Tejeros, San Francisco de Malabon
(Cavite)
Why did it happen? The Magdiwang group urged Bonifacio to
mediate to settle the conflict between the Magdalo and
Magdiwang.
How did it happen? The meeting discussed ways to defend
the provinces. It was agreed that a central government
be organized to replaced Katipunan. The officers
elected to the central government were Emilio Aguinaldo as the
President, Mariano Trias as the Vice-President and Andres
Bonifacio as the Director Interior.
F. Killing of Andres Bonifacio
What happened? Bonifacio’s election was opposed by Daniel Tirona a
member of Magdalo faction, who though Bonifacio Procopio Bonifacio
unworthy of such a high position because of lack of education.
Bonifacio was angered by Tirona’s objection.
When did it happen? May 10, 1897
Where did it happen? Mt. Tala Maragondon, Cavite
Why did it happen? Bonifacio did not fell happy about the remarks of
Tirona and some members of the assembly. He resigned as the leader
of Katipunan and declare the assembly null and void. He established
his own government in Naic, they called it as Military Government of
Naic.
How did it happen? On April 29, 1897, Bonifacio was put to trial by a
military court ordered by Aguinaldo. On May 6, 1897 Bonifacio and his
brother Procoio were sentenced to death, they were brought to Mt. Tala
Maragondon, Cavite where they were executed.
G. The Agreement of Biak na Bato
What happened? After the death of Andres Bonifacio, the Filipinos’
battle for independence continued. The Katipuneros in Cavite, led by
General Emilio Aguinaldo moved the revolutionary government from
Cavite to Biak na Bato Bulacan.
When did it happen? November 18 and December 14 and 15 1897.
Where did it happen? Biak-na-Bato, Bulacan
Why did it happen? The war in Cuba and the revolution in the
Philippines weakened Spain, thus forcing Governor-General Primo de Pedro Paterno
Rivera to forged Pact of Biak na Bato mediated by Pedro Paterno.
How did it happen? On December 14 and 15 ,1897 Governor-
General Primo de Rivera and Emilio Aguinaldo signed the document
with the following provisions:
1. Spain would pay 800,000,00 pesos to the Revolutionists and would
allow Aguinaldo and his men to exile themselves in Hong Kong
2. Spain would grant amnesty to all who lay down their arms
3. Spain would pay a total of 1,700,000 pesos—800,000 pesos to who
laid down their arms and the remaining 900,000 to the civilians
population who had suffer during the war
