DEFINITION

• Is a contraception that is injected into the


deltoid or gluteal.
• Is a reversible progestin-only method of
prescription birth control
INDICATIONS

• Want highly effective method of


contraception.
• Are breast feeding.
• Should not use estrogen containing
contraceptives.
• Desire the convenience of not having to keep
contraceptive supplies at home.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
• Known or suspected pregnancy.
• Current or severe hepatic disease.
• Previous or existing liver tumors.
• Severe diabetes with vascular changes.
• Disturbance of lipid metabolism
ADVANTAGES
• It does not interrupt sex.
• Is meant for short-term method of
contraception. Mainly used by women;
Whose partners are having vasectomy(the
noristrate injection will offer pregnancy
protection until the vasectomy becomes
effective).
A good short-term birth control because it does
not have estrogen
MODE OF ACTION
• Prevents ovulation
• Noristerate mainly thickens the cervical mucus
and the hormone may also thin the lining of
the uterus.
• Prevents an ovum being released from the
ovaries.
EFFECTIVENESS
• Noristrate is 97% to 99.7% effective
