Signs and symptoms

 Discomfort
 Pain
 Blurred vision
 Eyelids screwed up in spasm
 Redness and watering of the eye
First aid management

 Advise the casualty not to rub her/his eye because it might worsen the condition
 The casualty should face the light in order to make the eye to cry
 Gently separate the eyelids with thump or finger and thump
 Ask casualty to look left, right, up and down to examine every part of the eye
 If the foreign object can been see on the white of the eye, wash it out by pouring clean
water
Foreign objects in the ear

 Ear bud
 Insects
 Earrings
 Folded papers
Signs and symptoms

 Redness, itching or bleeding in the ear


 Discharge from the ear
 More intense pain
 Cough
 Vomiting
 Nausea or dizziness
First aid management

 Reassure and ask the casualty to sit down


 Support the casualty’s head with the affected ear uppermost
 Flood the ear with tepid water and the insect should flood out
 If flooding does not remove the insect , seek medical help

Signs and symptoms

 Difficulty/noisy breathing through the nose


 Swelling of the nose
 Foul-smelling or bloody nasal discharge
 Irritability or pain in the nose
 Snoring, breathing with a hissing sound in the nose
First aid management

 Try to keep the casualty quiet and calm


 Tell the casualty to breath through the mouth at a normal rate
 Advise the casualty not to poke inside nose to try to remove the object himself
 Arrange to take/send the casualty to hospital , so that the object can be removed safely by
medical staff
