UNIT 3 THEORIES AND

PRINCIPLES IN THE USE AND

DESIGN OF TECHNOLOGY-
DRIVEN LEARNING LESSONS

ASSURE
Model
JOY M. CHALLOY
WHAT IS ASSURE
MODEL?
 Developed by Heinich, Molenda, Russel and Smaldino in
1990’s
 It is an instructional design framework that provides
systematic approach to planning and delivering effective
instruction.
 It aims to help teachers focus on incorporating the use of
media and technology within the classroom environment.
ASSURE MODEL
ANALYZE LEARNERS
 Identify the characteristics and needs of learners

a. General attributes of learners: age, academic abilities, gender and

interests
b. Learning styles: auditory, visual and tactile
c. Prior competencies
STATE OBJECTIVES
 Clearly define specific learning objectives

a. Use ABCD (Audience, Behavior, Conditions, Degree) format

b. Make objectives SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Relevant and Time-bound)
SELECT STRATEGIES,
TECHNOLOGY, MEDIA AND
MATERIALS
 Choose appropriate instructional methods, technology and
materials

a. Identifying relevant instructional strategies

b. Choosing technology and media that enhance learning
c. Selecting instructional materials
UTILIZE TECHNOLOGY AND
MATERIALS
 Implement the selected strategies, technology and
materials
The “5 P’s” Process
a. Preview the materials
b. Practice the presentation
c. Prepare a good environment
d. Present the material
e. Provide learning experience
REQUIRE LEARNER
PARTICIPATION
 Engage learners actively in the instructional process

a. Create opportunities for learners to engage with content, practice

skills and interact with peers
b. Facilitating discussions and group activities
c. Encouraging questions and critical thinking
EVALUATE AND REVISE
 Assess the effectiveness of the instruction and make
necessary revisions

a. Assess the effectiveness of the instruction

b. Gather feedback from learners
c. Make necessary revisions to improve learning experience

OF ASSURE MODEL
STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES
1. Systematic Approach 1. Time- Intensive
2. Learner Centered 2. Resource Dependency
3. Integration of Technology 3. Complexity
4. Flexibility 4. Adaption
5. Ongoing Evaluation
