Define:

Problem statement:

To design a prototype car powered by rubber band and compare between adding of spoiler, aerodynamic shape and
wheel friction to see which design have the highest speed.

Prototype 1
(Robin)
• Addition of rubber band for each
wheel to increase friction. Car is
powered by the elastic power of
the rubber band when it is
twisted and stretched.
• Using 2 ice-cream sticks, 5 rubber
bands, 4 caps, a straw and
chopsticks.

Prototype 2
(Jayden)
• Additional spoiler design.
• Using two straws and an ice-
cream stick.
RESTRICTED - Non Sensitive

Prototype 3
(Jayden)
• Removal of rubber bands
from front wheels

Prototype 4 (Ci
En)
• Adding half ice-cream stick on
each side of the frame to
increase aerodynamic.
RESTRICTED - Non Sensitive

Prototype 5 (Ci
En)
• Remove the rubber bands on
each of the front wheel
• Speed is increased

Prototype 6
(Robin)
• Removal of spoiler and
aerodynamic sticks
• On top of the first prototype,
we removed rubber bands
from the two front wheels

Prototype 7
(Robin)
• Adding of aerodynamic sticks,
without spoiler.

Prototype 8
(Jayden)
• Removal of rubber bands
from front wheels on top of
previous prototype

Measure:
Full complete set of data collection (with 2-replicate in random order).
Alternatively, you may choose to take several readings obtain its average.

Analysis
• Based on the statistics, the results of
the best prototype is with
aerodynamics, with spoiler and
removal of rubber bands on the front
wheels.

Hypothesis
• H0: The final prototype will be faster than the best design.
• HA: The final prototype will be slower than the best design.

Improve: Design
Modifications
• Improving on spoiler design by
using cardboard
• Improving aerodynamics of the
car model by cardboard

Final Prototype
• Distance 1m
• Time: 0.96 seconds
• Speed: 1.041m/s

Hypothesis From the output, the P-value

is 0.000.
Since the P-value is less than
0.05, it indicates that there is
a statistically significant
difference between the 2
sets of values observed.
Therefore, the null
hypothesis would be
rejected. (i.e. Best design
and final design have
different performance)
The data shows that best
design performs worse than
final design and hence, the
null hypothesis would not be
rejected.

Control:
The executed control plan to ensure the sustainability of consistent performances and collection of data during each
phase of measurement.
Define Objectives:
• Clearly outline the objectives of the control plan, specifying what consistent performances and data are
expected to be achieved during each phase of measurement.
•Identify Critical Control Points:
• Identify the critical control points in the process where deviations could lead to variations in performance or
data quality. These points are crucial for maintaining control.
•Establish Standards and Tolerances:
• Define performance standards and acceptable tolerances for each critical control point. This sets the baseline
for what is considered acceptable and ensures consistency.
•Develop Monitoring Procedures:
• Specify procedures for monitoring the critical control points. This could include regular checks, inspections, or
data audits to ensure that the process is within established standards.
•Assign Responsibilities:
• Clearly assign responsibilities for monitoring and controlling each critical point. Ensure that team members
understand their roles and are trained appropriately.
•Implement Data Collection Protocols:
• Develop standardized protocols for data collection during each phase of measurement. This includes defining
data sources, formats, and methods to ensure consistency

Reflections
• Robin
I have learned how to use six sigma method to define, measure,
analyze, improve and control the whole process designing and
developing creative prototypes.
I feel that this project is a little troublesome as Minitab is only available
in school and we can only do most of the stuff during class.
My group members are very cooperative
We use WhatsApp and MSteams chat to communicate.

I have learnt that a lot of proper planning must go into designing a
prototype as we struggled on making the first prototype and we
eventually had to change designs as the first one was not feasible.
I feel that this project has aided me in developing my communication
skills and helped me to communicate effectively with my teammates to
complete the project.
We used WhatsApp and MSteams chat to communicate.

I have learnt how to utilize the Minitab software to analyse and coming out with
statistics to get the best result amongst various prototypes. Communications in a
group is essential in getting the project done well on time. Though the project is
indeed inconvenient on the Minitab side, it really help me understand more on
how the tutorials are related through doing it from scratch through hands on.
My teammates are effective communicators as we plan out on who doing which
part of the project. In a team, the problem will be different views which makes it
little challenging. Nevertheless, we will discuss and come out with better idea of
all three.
We used MS teams and WhatsApp chatgroup to discuss.
