Different Forms of
Electromagnetic Waves
Quarter 2: Module 1
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:

●The learner should be able to know the different region of the

electromagnetic spectrum (S10FE-IIa-b-47).

Good day class! We are now in

our second quarter lesson
focused on “forces and energy”.
Our first topic is about the

Let Us Recall!

3 Kinds of Waves

1. Mechanical Wave- travels through a medium such as solid,

liquid, gas. Example is a sound wave

2. Electromagnetic Wave- does not a require a medium to

travel. It can even travel through a vacuum.
3. Matter Wave- electrons and particles

Exercise
Let’s have an exercise
to see if you can
distinguish mechanical
wave from an
electromagnetic wave. A. Mechanical Wave
B. Electromagnetic Wave

A. Mechanical Wave
B. Electromagnetic Wave
Let’s Observe!
Like the rope, electrically
charged objects have
electromagnetic waves that
have different lengths and
heights that carry energy
observed in nature.
Electromagnetic Wave
● Also known as EM Wave
● It is a wave that has both electric and magnetic wave.

● It does not need any medium to travel. It can even travel through a vacuum.
● They differ from one another in terms of wavelength and frequency.
Characteristics of Waves
Amplitude- the amount of energy
- the higher the amplitude, the more energy

Wavelength- the shorter the wavelength, the higher the

energy

Frequency- number of waves passing a point in a certain time

- It is expressed in Hertz (Hz).
- The higher the frequency, the more energy

The higher energy the EM waves, the more dangerous it is.

High amplitude
Short wavelength
High frequency

Dangerous!

Low amplitude
Long wavelength
Low frequency

Safe
Different Types of EM Waves
1. Radio wave
2. Microwave
3. Infrared
4. Visible light
5. Ultraviolet
6. X-ray
7. Gamma ray
