1. Type of Platform

2. Necessity of Double Pipe Boring

1. Type of Platform
Lifter platform technique with telescopic jacks-18m.

Stable platform upon a firmly built up stage

(Scaffolding Technique)

Crane operated hanging platform

Spider driller
Why we did not choose scaffolding
method?
Our bad experience with high elevated scaffoldings

Our utmost
attention is
drawn
upon safety
of people

Drilling upon a steep river embankment at Ratnapura

Why we did not choose scaffolding
method?
Even though the making of stable platforms only comes
after the proper trimmin1g work the vibration due to
drilling might initiate the development of a slip plane.
A sudden earth slip could make a heavy damage for the
entire system of scaffolding.
Why We Select the Hanging
Platform Method ?
1. It is the safest
2. It is the fastest
How to improve it ?
1. Rope anchoring for lateral
stability
2. Introduction of a high
pressure hammer
3. Using High pressure Air flow
2. Necessity of Double Pipe Boring

Drilling with Casing Advancer

ODEX method with down-the-Hole -Hammer

Drilling with Casing Advancer
• Power rotary drill rotates the outer
casing and drill bit at the lower end
of the casing.
• Power is transmitted from the
rotating casing to the tri cone roller
bit.
• The tri cone roller bit is slightly
ahead of the casing shoe bit during
drilling.
Advantages
1.Soils at the bottom of the hole
receives minor disturbance prior
to sampling
2.Very rapid drilling capacity
ODEX method with down-the-
Hole -Hammer
• The ODEX system comprises a
pilot bit with a reamer above it.
• When hammer is operating the
guide rotates and forces the
reamer to undercut the casing
shoe thus allowing the casing to
follow the bit down the hole.
Advantages
1.Very fast in compact hard soils,
boulders or weathered bedrock
2.Can drill a short hole into hard
bed rock
The drilling equipment for the proposed

double pipe boring system will be imported

in due course which will take 6-8 weeks.
