Project 127

BEN OWENS
Outline

 The goal of this project is to investigate a reduction in the amount of PGM used in
KSFB products
 PGM is our most valuable raw material so any reduction would result in cost
savings
 This is to be done by implementing Weifu precoated bricks and applying PGM to
them
Experimental
Samples Substrate WCL (g/in3) Pt (g/ft3) Pd (g/ft3) Rh (g/ft3)

 5 positions of 3 bricks
#1 3.66x6, 600/4.3 2.5 (WF) NA 8.18 0.82
 PGM applied through impregnation
#2 3.66x6, 600/4.3 2.5 (WF) NA 6.953 0.697
 From each position: #3 3.66x6, 600/4.3 2.5 (WF) NA 6.135 0.615

 1 brick for lab analysis #4 3.66x6, 600/4.3 2.5 (WF) NA 7.651 0.41

(XRF, ICP, SA/PV) #5 3.66x6, 600/4.3 2.5 (WF) NA 7.0575 0.41

 1 brick for emissions testing

Target loadings
Results

 All five positions have been produced with 4 bricks each

 ICP testing shows that all bricks have been loaded with PGM within the outlined
tolerances

 We are currently awaiting the results of the emissions testing

 Results will show if these bricks produce the catalytic activity required for this
product
