JOINING TO SIMPLE SENTENCES
A. USING AN ADJECTIVE OR PARTICIPLE
Example: 1. My sister is wearing a chain. It is costly.
Ans: My sister is wearing a costly chain.
2. He saw me come. He ran away.
Ans: Seeing me come, he ran away.
EXERCISE: JOIN INTO SIMPLE SENTENCES

1. I finished my work. I lay down

TURN INTO SIMPLE SENTENCES USING AN INFINITIVE
* AN INFINITIVE= USE OF “TO” IN A SENTENCE

1. She is very weak. She can not do the work// She is


so weak that she can’t do the work.
Ans: She is too weak to do the work.

2. He has two sons. He wants to teach.


Ans: He has two sons to teach.

Example: 1. She is my sister. Her name is

Answer: I pet Keds, my faithful dog.
TURN INTO SIMPLE: USING AN
ABSOLUTE PHRASE
Example: 1. The Sun rose. The fog
disappeared.

disappeared.

TURN INTO SIMPLE: USING ADVERBIALS
Example: 1. He will come here. It is sure.
Ans: He will surely come here.
2. She spoke the truth. She did not fear at all.
Ans: She spoke the truth without any fear.
3. The bus was crowded. That was usual.
Ans: The bus usually crowded.
4. He fought alone. He was not helped.
Ans: He fought alone without being helped.
5. He did not write me. He did it with an intention.
Ans: He did not write me intentionally.
TURN INTO SIMPLE: USING A NOUN WITH
PREPOSITION OR GERUND
* GERUND= NOUN+ING

1. He is ill. He still works.


Ans: In spite of his illness, he still works.
2. He made a promise. He kept it also.
Ans: Besides making a promise, he kept it.
3. We must support him. Otherwise, he will lose the
election.
Ans: But for our support he will lose the election.
JOIN INTO COMPLEX SENTENCES
*** USING A NOUN CLAUSE
1. He is ill. It is known to her.
Ans: That he is ill, is known to her.
2. She has arrived. We heard it.
Ans: We heard that she has arrived.
3. This is done. This can not be undone.
Ans: What is done, can not be undone.
4. He did it. I don’t know the technique. (YOU TELL ME
THE ANSWER)
TURN INTO COMPLEX SENTENCE BY
USING ADJ. AND ADV. CLAUSE
1. He restrains his anger. He is wise.
Ans: He, who restrains hi anger, is wise.
2. I have lost the pen. You gave it to me.
Ans: I have lost the pen which/ that you gave me.
3. You are strong. I am equally strong.
Ans: You are as strong as I am.
4. He is rich. He did not help me.
Ans: Though he is rich, he did not help me.
5. It is simple. Even a child can do it.
Ans: It is so simple that a child can do it.
JOINING INTO COMPOUND SENTENCES
BY USING COORDINATING CONJUNCTION
1. He is poor. He is honest.
Ans: He is poor but honest.
2. She is annoyed. She kept quiet.
Ans: She is annoyed so she kept quiet.
3. He was naughty. He was punished.
Ans: He was punished because he was naughty.
4. Ram is present. Rahim is present.
Ans: Ram and Rahim are present.
5. He was fined. He was sent to prison.
Ans: He was fined and sent to prison.
B. SPLITTING THE SENTENCES
* IT’S JUST LIKE BREAKING IN TO PART-
SENTENCES FROM A LONG, DEFINITIVE
SENTENCE. <I>
1. Find out and segregate the adjective out of a sentence:
1. He lost his costly book  He lost his book. It was costly.
2. She did her homework well.  She did her homework. She did it well.
II. Find out and segregate the two objects in a sentence.
Rabindranath, a poet, won the Nobel Prize.  Rabindranath was a poet. He won
the Nobel Prize.
III. From infinitive to a finite verb.
I have a promise to keep I have made a promise. I must keep that.

From V+ing/ from an absolute phrase/ Gerund/ Preposition a finite
verb. (* Absolute phrase= Using ‘having’)
1. Being tired, he rested for hours. He was tired. He rested for
hours.
2. Having seen the snake, she ran away She saw the snake. She ran
away.
3. After working hard he took rest.  He worked hard. He took rest.

From removing a clause and forming two or more sentences.


It is so simple that a child can do it.  it is simple. A child can do it.
