1.1 Kick-Off Meeting Purpose
To formally recognize the “official start” of the project & assist project team
members, Company and key personnel to attain a common understanding of the
project scope, roles and estimates timeline and quality requirements of the company
as per SCHEDULE Q & Project Quality Plan.

5.1.1 Storage in Warehouse
1. Equipment and materials (including packaging and documentation) are labeled and identified in
compliance with requirements of the approved QC procedure, manufacturer’s instructions, project
specifications, and MSAER’s for both temporary and permanent identification.
2. All preservation activities in construction and pre-commissioning phases after delivery to jobsite,
through receiving, storage, installation, and pre-commissioning must be measured and reported as
per SAEP-385 Table A-6001 ~ 6011.
3. Instruments shall be stored indoors; with environmental controls provided for water, humidity,
condensation, dust, solar radiation, and ambient temperature.
4. The test equipment and instruments shall be in good working order and will be maintained properly.
Valid test certificates shall be provided and maintained for each equipment and instruments. The
Master Test Equipments shall be tested from ARAMCO approved third party.

5.2 Work Method for Instrument Calibration
5.2.6 General Requirements
1. General instruments shall be calibrated at site calibration shop or field (site) in accordance with
SAUDI ARAMCO test procedure specified in according with SATIP, SAIC and SATR.
2. Quality toolbox talk will be held before start of work. Each member has the responsibility of
ensuring the safety of this activity, especially while performing any modification works.
3. After successful completion of each calibration, the instrument shall be marked with a colored
label bearing date of calibration and initials of the witnessing party. The color code shall be as
follows: CALIBRATION

4. All Package loose instruments shall be bench calibrated and for pre-installed package or skid
instruments, Vendor/Manufacturer factory calibration certificates shall be provided.
5. All control valves calibration will be carried out at site calibration shop or warehouse for up to 12
inches without transportation and for 12 inch above, Calibration will be carried out at field (site)
after installation to ensure they operate in accordance with the instrument datasheets.
6. Pressure Relief Valve (PZV) shall be tested and performed by approved third party as per
SAEP-319.

5.2.7 Calibration Shop Facilities
1. Calibration personnel as well as testing facilities shall be subject to Aramco approval.
2. The Master Test Equipment shall be tested and certified from ARAMCO approved Third
Party and should have valid calibration certificates as per SCHEDULE Q Att. IV para 7.3.
3. Calibration and material tracking log shall be maintained by calibration supervisor.

5.2.9 Transmitter Calibration
1. For HART Transmitters, Check output at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of input range with signal rising and falling.
Corresponding mA output signals are 4mA, 8mA, 16mA and 20mA and transmitter accuracy shall be as per
approved datasheet or by vendor recommendation.
2. For FF Transmitters, Check output at 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of input range with signal rising and falling.

5.2 Work Method for Instrument Calibration
5.2.9 Element / Sensor Calibration
1. Thermocouple construction, properties, calibration, color coding, and limits of error shall
comply with ISA/ANSI MC96.1
2. After testing, thermocouple/RTD sheath shall be replaced in their thermowells, ensure
that the sheath is “bottomed” in the thermowell.
3. Thermowells shall be checked to ensure the length, bore area in accordance with the
relevant documents and instrument tag number is stamped on the edge of the flange.
The thermowell flange diameter and gasket area finish shall be checked.

5.2.10 Gauge Calibration
1. Pressure and temperature gauge shall be calibrated according to approved procedure

2. If the results are not within manufacture’s tolerance, gauge shall be recalibrated in
accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

5.2.11 Switch Calibration
1. Determine set point and action of switching from instrument specification / data sheet.
2. When error is found, adjust set point by screw adjustment and repeat until desired value
is obtained.

5.2.12 Gas Detector Calibration
1. Gas detectors shall be calibrated after installation at field (site) using standard gas. If
The calibration work shall be done as per the manufacturer’s instruction.
2. Below mentioned model are the combustible and toxic H2S gas detectors assigned and
approved for the MIP 12 Project. The Pre-Commissioning team at the site will calibrate
the gas detectors during Loop -checking. The calibration procedure will be applied
according to the vendor’s VD-IN026-016_B_Operating & Maintenance Manual.

5.2.13 Other Instruments
1. Following instruments shall be calibrated by vendor representative during pre-
commissioning or provided vendor calibration certificate, Magnetic Flow Transmitters,
Coriolis Flow Transmitters, Corrosion Transmitters. Ultrasonic Flow Transmitters,
Rotameters, Analyzers and etc.
2. Coriolis Mass flow meters, Magnetic flow meters, Radar Level Transmitters shall be
subject to Document Review. Configuration check and visual check shall be carried out
during bench calibration as per applicable SATIP. Actual Calibration shall be checked at
site by the Vendor.
3. Orifice/restriction orifice plate ( FE ) as well as Flow Element and Thermowell ( TW ),
Sight Glass Gauges, Magnetic Gauges shall be subject to Document Review and
visually check during bench calibration as per applicable SATIP.
4. Following instruments -- Gas detectors, Position Transmitters, Level Transmitter GWRs
shall be calibrated by Loop Check Technician during Pre-Commissioning.

6. Management Plan
6.3 Risk assessment and register
Effective risk management processes enable the trust to ensure actions are taken to identify areas of risk
and strategies to reduce or prevent this.

1. The regulation for safety of personnel and equipment shall be strictly followed. All
personnel shall be fully aware of these safety regulations and shall know the ar-
rangements for First Aid, Medical Facilities, Fire-Fighting equipment’s and gen-
eral Emergencies. The instrument calibration works shall always be carried out in
a safe manner, with qualified staff and technicians, fully adopting the project
Mitigating action safety procedures.
2. Electronics / other devices storage shall be as per vendor recommendation in
accordance with SAEP-385. All electronics devices shall be stored in door air-
conditioned warehouse. Prior to installation Function Test / Calibration shall be
done. Special care shall be taken and protect the instrument after installation
form falling objects or other foreign materials.

7. Lessons and Learned
1. The installed temperature element height 19 meters TE tip is not in inti-
mate contact with the bottom of the Thermowell bore, due to the incom-
plete fastening of the coupling union, resulting in an overall loose tem-
perature element. This violates the supplied spring-loaded Thermocou-
ples RTD installations, SAES-J-100 Paragraph [Link], the end of the
RTD thermocouple shall be in contact with the bottom of thermowell.
Conclusion : After calibration of thermocouple and RTD element concern
personnel shall be double sure that assembly of thermowell and TE must ful-
fill above requirement.

8. Safety
The SAUDI ARAMCO procedures and standards for safety, health and environment shall be
strictly followed. All personnel shall be fully aware of these safety regulations and shall know the
arrangements for first aid, medical facilities, fire-fighting equipment and general emergencies.
Instrument Calibration works shall always be carried out in a safe manner, with all site personnel
staff and labour, fully adopting the project safe procedures.
