symbolized by the Greek letter Omega Ω
Guide Questions:
1.What are the instruments that you have
got from the mystery box?
2.How would you describe the instrument
you’ve got?
3. What do you think our topic is all about?
VERNIER
it is an instrument
CALIPER use to take an
accurate measurement reading
between two graduation markings
on a linear scale. And used to
calculate the internal and external
diameters of hollow cylinders.
Pierre Vernier
Pierre Vernier, (born August 19, 1584,
Ornans, France—died September 14,
1638, Ornans), is a french mathematician
and government official who is best
remembered for his invention of the
vernier caliper, an instrument for making
accurate linear measurements.
Vernier caliper
Parts and Function of Vernier Caliper
• External Measuring jaw- these are large lower jaws that are
used for measuring the external dimensions of an object.
• Internal Measuring Jaws- these are small upper jaws used
for measuring internal dimensions
• Main Fixed Scale- the main scale has a fixed upper and
lower jaw on its left side and runs along the Vernier caliper.
• Vernier scale- slides along the main scale (with the movable
upper and lower jaws).
Parts and Function of Vernier Caliper
• Lock Screw- locks the vernier scale and enables reading the vernier
caliper correctly.
• Thumb Screw- this is located at the bottom of the vernier scale and
gives you a firm grip for easy sliding of the vernier scale while
holding the object firmly in the other hand.
• Depth Rod or Depth Bar- the depth rod protrudes from the end of
the main scale and moves out or in along with the movement of the
vernier scale. You can use the depth rod for measuring the depth of
a blind hole, a slot, and similar measurements.

MEASURE OBJECTS USING
VERNIER CALIPER
Explain how vernier caliper works
and able to measure different objects
using vernier caliper.
Materials:
Vernier Caliper
Lato-lato balls
Metallic tube
Activity sheets
Instruction:
1. The teacher will distribute the activity sheet and the
materials needed for the activity.
2.The students will set- up their vernier caliper.
3.The students will measure different objects using
vernier caliper, they were tasked to measure object’s
length, depth, inside diameter and outside diameter.
4.Record your findings on the activity sheet provided.
