Week 4
Day 1
Constructing a Pie Graph
Based on a Given Set of Data
Directions: Read the following problems then
solve.
1. Joseph recorded his family’s electric
consumption for 2 months. The initial reading
was 2719 kWh and the next reading was 2731.
How many kWh was used in a month?
____________
2. Last month, a water meter read 8263 m³. This
month, the reading is 8315 m³. If the cost of water
is PhP 8.00 per m³, how much is the basic bill?
_____________
Ask:

Who likes to eat a pizza pie?

What is the shape of a pie?

How do you share your pie?

Problem 1. In an online survey, the grade
six pupils were asked to indicate which one
of the two groups they belonged. The
information is given in the table. Display the
information in a pie graph.
Pie graph also known as circle graph is
often used to describe sets of data. They
show relationship between parts of the data
and the whole. A circle graph presents data
as a circular region divided into sections,
called sectors. The size of each sector
corresponds to the part of the data
presented.
The whole circle represents the total
frequency. In the above problem, the
whole is the total number of pupils
surveyed. The whole quantity presented in
the circle graph must be equivalent to
100% and thus the angle measure of the
circle is equal to 360˚.
Based on the data presented above, how
do we construct a pie graph? To construct a
pie graph, follow these steps:
1. Find out the whole quantity.
40 + 10 = 50
2. Compute the ratio or percent of each
section to the whole to find each part. The
whole is equal to 100%.
3. Compute the degrees for each section
(angle measure).
4. Draw the sections or parts of the circle graph by
starting at the 12 o’clock position on the circle.
Arrange the sections in a clockwise direction, you
may arrange the sections from largest to smallest
sizes. Use a protractor to measure the degrees of
an angle.
5. Write a title of your pie graph.
Directions: Mark the percentages on the
right to its circle sectors.
Directions: Complete the table. The table
shows the data on Grade 6 pupils’ favorite
vegetables.
What is a pie graph?
What instrument do you need to construct it?
Directions: Read each item carefully. Choose
the letter of the correct answer.
1. A _______ is a type of graph that
represents the data in a circular graph.
A. bar graph
B. line graph
C. circle graph
D. pictograph
2. To find the parts , ______ each section
by the whole quantity and change to
percent.
A. add
B. subtract
C. multiply
D. divide
3. The ________ is used to measure the degrees
in a pie chart
A. ruler
B. protractor
C. meter
D. compass
4. The angle measure of a circle graph.
A. 90˚
B. 180˚
C. 180˚
D. 360˚
Refer to the circle graph below to answer item 5.

5. About how many degrees is allotted to football?

A. 100˚ B. 190˚
C. 360˚ D. 528˚
Day 2
What is a pie graph?
Show a picture of a pie and
discuss it to the class.
Here is another way to compute the degrees
of an angle without getting the percent if we
construct a pie or circle graph.

Problem 2. The table shows the number of

hours spent by 20 pupils using internet
during weekends.
How can we find the measure of the angle in
each sections without computing the
percent?

1. Find the whole. (Add all the frequrency).

10 + 5 + 3 + 2 = 20
2. Calculate the angles of each part (360
degrees is the total).
360˚ ÷ 20 = 18˚
3. Multiply each part by the number of users/
frequency.
4. Let’s draw the circle graph, label each part
and give a title.
Construct a pie graph based on the data
above. Write a title of your pie graph.
Directions: Answer the questions honestly.
1. Do you eat vegetables?
_______________ How often?
____________________
2. Is it important to eat vegetable especially
at your age? _______________ Why/why
not ?
Directions: Read the problem.

Arwin was tasked to present to his

supervisor the percentage of pizza toppings
mostly ordered by the customers in a survey
conducted online using a pie graph. Please
help him to construct a pie graph by using
the given information.
