Rotations and Enlargements

By Adisesh
Rotation
What are Rotations
Rotations are when you change the orientation of an object at a specific angle
and in specific center of rotation.

Here is a table:
Features Yes or no

size NO

orientation YES

shape NO

position NO
The notation
To know how to rotate an object you will need to know how the notation is for rotating
an object

Angle + clockwise or anticlockwise + center of rotation

90 degrees CW, center of rotation(3,4)

270 degrees CCW, center of rotation (5,7)

180 degrees, center of rotation(8,2)

We don’t have to add the direction for the 180 degrees notation because it will look the
same either way.
The First Method
The first method is pretty simple:

1. Lay your tracing paper above the object and draw the 3 points on the
tracing paper
2. Rotate the tracing paper using the notation given.
3. Draw the points on the graph paper and connect it to create the image
The Second Method
If you don’t have tracing paper use this method:

1. Find out the distance from the center of rotation and draw the points
using the notation given
How to find the details of the rotation
To find the center of rotations you must draw lines through the corresponding
points and then repeat for at least 3 points the place where they meet is the
center of rotation.
EnlargEment
What is a Enlargement
An enlargement is when a Features Yes or No
shape changes size but doesn’t Position sometimes
change shape which means Size Yes
that the proportions of the Orientation No
lengths are the same. Shape No
Notation
The way that we note down an enlargement is by first noting down the scale
factor which is how much times we have to increase the size
How to enlarge a shape and to find the notation
First find the distance between the center of enlargement and multiply it with
the scale factor and move the point that distance from the center of
enlargement.

To find the scale factor divide the image length with the object’s
corresponding length. To find the center of enlargement you have to draw
lines between the corresponding points and then where they meet is the
center of enlargement.
