ABOUT MGVCL
 Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd. is an electricity company
that was incorporated on 15 September 2003 by Gujarat
Electricity Board (GEB).
 The company distributes electricity in
 7 districts
 48 talukas
 4404 villages
 The company is responsible for reliable and affordable Power
distribution.
 Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited is committed to
distribute and maintain reliable Electric Power, satisfy all its
customers through excellence in service by way of safe
Distribution network with dedication to continual improvement
in all sphere of activities.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
 An electrical distribution system is a network that distributes electrical power to
homes, businesses, and other customers.
 Customers are classed as:
 Industrial Customer
 Commercial Customers
 Residential Customers
 Transportation Customers
 Key Components of an Electrical Distribution System are
1. Substations
2. Transformers
3. Circuit Breakers
4. Distribution Lines
5. Service Lines
6. Distribution Switchgear
7. Meters
8. Protective Devices
DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMER
 A distribution transformer provides the final voltage transformation in the
electric power distribution system, stepping down the voltage used in the
distribution lines to the level used by the customer in their home, businesses,
and commercial buildings.
 A distribution transformer or service transformer is a transformer that
provides the final voltage transformation in the power distribution system,
stepping down the voltage used in the distribution lines to the level used by the
consumer.
 Earlier Distribution transformer normally had ratings less than 200 kVA,
although some national standards likes IS 1180 & IS 2026 can allow for units
up to 5000 kVA to be described as distribution transformers.
 Distribution transformer are energised for 24 hours a day(even when they don’t
carry any load)
 They usually don’t operate at full load, they are designed to have maximum
efficiency at lower loads.
 There are various forms of transformers available in the distribution system,
such as single-phase, three-phase, pad-mounted, and pole-mounted distribution
transformers.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTS
 Protective equipments in a distribution system consists of
protective relays, cutout switches, disconnect switches,
lightning arresters, and fuses.
 These work individually or may work in concert to open
circuits whenever a short circuit, lightning strikes or other
disruptive event occurs.
 the distribution system is often designed with many layers
of redundancy. Through redundancy, power can be shut off
in portions of the system only, but not the entire system, or
can be redirected to continue to serve customers.
 Only in extreme events, or failure of redundant systems,
does an entire system become de-energized, shutting off
power to large numbers of customers.

INTERNSHIP ACTIVITIES
(METER TESTING)
 During the internship I was assigned to Meter Testing
Laboratory. I was see single phase electro-mechanical
Meters and single phase/ three phase electronic Meters
of different company.
 And here I learn and discuss about the Energy Meters
specification details with laboratory staff and working
process of laboratory.
 Initially I learned how the single phase/three phase
meters connected in series and do the dial test under
observation of operator.
 Here I also do the error calculation of single phase/three
phase energy meters.
