Introduction

Action research can be defined as a methodology of research which seeks

transformative change through the simultaneous process of taking action and
doing research which are linked together by critical reflection.
In education, action research can be used to assist educators in improving their
educational strategies by allowing them to document areas of student weakness
and strength and by allowing educators to better reflect upon their own areas of
strength and weakness.
Using the UFLI phonics program, I will
My Plan work with a small group of students on
the use of new Phonics rules and word
patterns in order to determine if better
understanding of phonics and pattern
recognition can assist students' abilities
in reading comprehension and fluency.
