Action research can be defined as a methodology of research which seeks
transformative change through the simultaneous process of taking action and doing research which are linked together by critical reflection. In education, action research can be used to assist educators in improving their educational strategies by allowing them to document areas of student weakness and strength and by allowing educators to better reflect upon their own areas of strength and weakness. Using the UFLI phonics program, I will My Plan work with a small group of students on the use of new Phonics rules and word patterns in order to determine if better understanding of phonics and pattern recognition can assist students' abilities in reading comprehension and fluency. My Plan Project focus: Standards addressed: 4.3.0.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in Phonics rules and word pattern decoding words. a. Use combined recognition. knowledge of all letter-sound correspondences, syllabication patterns,and morphology (e.g., roots and affixes) to read accurately unfamiliar multisyllabic words in context and out of context. My Students 5 fourth grade students who perform well below expected grade levels. These students are title one students. There are 3 female students and 2 males students.
