Since the 1970’s, equations of state
(EoS) for both pure and its mixtures at
high temperature and high pressure have
been widely investigated because of their
important role in geological and
petroleum science.
BACKGROUND Despite these investigations, it is difficult
to find a thermodynamic model that
OF STUDY accurately predicts the behavior in both
transcritical and supercritical region
because most of the EoS are inaccurate
in predicting the properties in the
vicinity of its critical point..
A Typical Phase Diagram for pure substances.
Experimental data is unreliable, expensive
and time consuming.

The compressibility factor at the critical and

supercritical conditions is very large, small
STATEMENT changes in pressure is causing substantial
changes in density which in turn affects

Accurate values of natural gas

thermodynamics properties are crucial in
custody transfer operations, pipeline design,
planning for natural gas processing etc
The aim of this research study is to compare
the cubic and viral equation of state for the
thermodynamics properties of supercritical /
mixtures.
The specific objectives includes;
AIM AND • To evaluate the accuracy of Peng-Robinson
and Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation of
OBJECTIVE state for the thermodynamics properties
of supercritical / mixtures
S
• Evaluation of accuracy of mixing rules for
mixtures using the different equation of
state
This study is expected to help reveal the
best EoS for calculating thermodynamic
properties such as compressibility factor,
enthalpy, entropy and fugacity etc. at a
given range of temperature values and
SIGNIFICAN pressure at supercritical conditions.
