INTRODUCTION
To promote Solid Waste Management at the household level. To contribute in reduction of Global Warming. To reduce dependency on LPG for cooking purposes. To promote an alternate source of energy (Biogas).

What is Bio Gas?

Practically produced as landfill gas (LFG) or digester gas by anaerobic breakdown of wastes. During the process, an air-tight tank transforms biomass waste into methane producing renewable energy that can be used for heating, electricity.

Typical composition of biogas

Compound Chemical %

Methane Carbon dioxide Nitrogen Hydrogen Hydrogen sulfide

CH4 CO2 N2 H2 H2S

Bio Gas Plants

CLASSIFICATION Digesters can also be vertical and horizontal displacement types depending on the orientation of digester. The horizontal plants are suited for high ground water level or rocky areas.

BIOMETHANIZATION

OUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PROJECT

Use of Kitchen Waste. Factors affecting Bio Gas Production. Scrubbing Unit.

DOMESTIC BIO WASTE TREATMENT PLANT

Factors affecting Bio gas Production

pH Value or Hydrogen ion Concentration. Temperature. Carbon Nitrogen Ratio. Diameter to depth Ratio. Feeding Rate. Mixing or Stirring. Type of Feed Stocks.

SCRUBBING UNIT
Scrubbing unit is a device which is used to remove unwanted residues from the methane gas. This helps in achieving purified methane which has got higher Calorific Value.

Economic Bio Gas Digester

ADVANTAGES
Solid waste management Saving fossil fuels Improving hygienic conditions Enabling local mechanization and electricity production Improving the rural standard of living

DISADVANTAGES
Steel drum may rust Requires regular maintenance

Our Perspective
If we use kitchen waste in a digester of fixed and pre-defined volume according to the approx. amount of kitchen waste generated in a house, considerable amount of biogas can be produced which can fulfill at least daily amount of fuel and energy requirement of the house.

CONCLUSION
Reduces burden on forests and fossil fuels Produces a clean fuel - helps in controlling air pollution Provides nutrient rich (N & P) manure for plants Controls water pollution by decomposing sewage, animal dung and human excreta.
