IEA Predicts the U.S. Will Be the Worlds Largest Oil Producer by 2015
By Institute for Energy Research (Bio and Archives) Monday, November 18, 2013
The International Energy Agency (IEA) just released it World Energy Outlook
2013 and moves up the date by which the United States will become the worlds
largest oil producer. In last years Outlook, the agency predicted the United
States to be the number one oil producer by 2017, but it now predicts we will
achieve that ranking two years earlier, in 2015, and we will then be producing
11 million barrels per day.

n my last trip to Myanmar, I was asked to give a lecture at the Mawlamyaing University. The
Rector asked me to talk about the importance of education so I decided to dust-off a book chapter I wrote for 2012 APEC meeting in Vladivostok, Russia. In my chapter, I explained for the linkages

A nations human capital has been identified as a crucial factor for their progress and development.
Education is the primary mechanism for escalating human resources and accumulating human capital. The human capital is considered a vital element for nations progress because, without it, physical and financial capitals are ineffective. We can see this concept in practice by looking at the status
of Singapore and Myanmar today. Singapore has very little physical capital but heavily invested in
educating its population while Myanmar with wealth of natural resources chose to invest very little
in its public school system. Today Singapore has reached the Newly Industrialized Economy (NIE)
status while Myanmar is at the bottom of the human development index. Therefore, public education
is one of the most important investments for nations social and economic outcomes. An increased
number of educated and productive citizens contribute to increased economic output for the private
sector and improved governance in the public sector. Although this concept is profound, the idea
is not a new one. What we put (or not put) into the schools today will be the controlling force in the
lives of the people in twenty to thirty years.
Additionally, education can also serve as a mechanism for social equality. In most societies, education is widely seen as one of the fundamental instruments for creating equal opportunity. However
in many developing countries, a persistent problem of unequal access to quality education exists.
Disparities in education based on gender and socioeconomic status can create a significant drag on
growth. Additionally, a disparity in education that aligns with social, political, and economic fault lines
creates resentments leading to violence, conflict, and instability. Schools and education systems can
serve as channels for the development of peaceful societies or exacerbate the situation, depending
on the policy insertion.
National education policies must be linked to security, social, and economic strategies for higher
probability of success. Such linkage requires interagency cooperation within governments and adequate budget allocation for public education. Myanmar is at a critical juncture and the policy makers
in Myanmar must prioritize the needed investment in its public education today. Todays investment
in educating its populace and ensuring equal access to quality education for its children will define
the competitiveness and development of Myanmar in twenty to thirty years.

Hello. To begin, I go by the name "Mimi" and I am 17
years young. Born in Bangkok, Thailand along with my
two older sisters. I am fluent in english though Burmese
is my first language. We moved to the US for the free
education we receive which brings me to my goals in
life. I would like to major in somewhere in the Medical
(Sonagraphy) and or business field.

I like to write poetry for it has always been a passion
of mines but I keep my poems on the down low.
What inspires you to do good.
Seeing others do wrong in this world is what inspires
me to do good. I foster diversity and inclusion, and accept people from all walks of life. When I help others,
it makes me feel better inside.
Whats the most common misconception that
people have about you when you tell them you're
from Burma?
They assume everyone walks around as monks in
orange robes and that it is a war torn country but there's
much more to Burma and there's much more to the
Burmese people than that. I try to represent that by
being a person of diverse interests and opinion.
How has the Burmese culture continued to influence you?
There's bits and pieces of the Burmese fashion that I
incorporate into my outfit on a daily basis.
