1. Mentoring Seminar and Induction
 This Saturday, from 9 to 1, there will be a mentoring seminar for anyone who
wants to help newer members. There will be a $50 budget for food and drinks
for anyone attending the seminar. It’s not open to new members, however,
since the mentors will be mentoring those new members.
 The induction is on October 16th. There will be approximately 75 new members
being inducted. All leaders are required to help. The Saturday afterwards is the
luncheon. Officers should arrive at 11 while the luncheon lasts from 12:30-2:30.

2. Book Drive
 Setup is at 7:30 this Sunday. Whoever is coordinating the book sale gets funds
for coffee and food. Use the faculty lot entrance to get into the college on
Sunday. Breakfast will be here while the book sale will be setup up right outside
in the hallway. Reminders will be sent by email.
 The storage room used to hold all of the books is located behind the main
lecture hall. Because our supply is overflowing, we need to contact better world
books as soon as possible. They’ll sell our excess books and the proceeds will go
to charity.

3. Adopt a Chapter
 Mercer Community College has a very active Phi Theta Kappa chapter. They’ve
been with us on most projects. If we follow the twin rivers system, we’d need to
raise their star level, attend each other’s events, and help them plan event if
they need the help. Their new officer team has a lot of great stars. We want to
invite them to the next meeting.
 The 5 star system is an award system. Each chapter has steps they need to take
to achieve each star. Our chapter has been a 5 star chapter for over 29 years. So
far we are a 3 star chapter only half way through the year.

4. NJ Leadership Conference
 October 17th is the NJ Leadership Conference. It’s in Raritan Valley and it’s the
same day as the luncheon. 7 of our members are attending and the trip will be
paid for by our chapter’s scholarship. Let us know if you get an email for the
conference. Everyone attending should either keep a journal of the event or
post a blog on the website. We will be carpooling.

5. Sign Up For Hallmarks

 There are 3 hallmarks to submit: scholarship, leadership, and service. These are
due Friday, February 3, 2010. Entries for the four Administrator Award entries
must be received by Friday, December 1, 2009. We’re starting a committee for
the hallmarks and need good writers to join. We also need members to keep
journals of every event. Formal writing is unnecessary for the journals but there
is a rubric for the hallmarks. For the committee we need writers, journalists, and
editors.

6. Updates
 The ribbon cutting for the Elizabeth Campus was on September 29th. The new
campus has amazing nursing facilities and important political figures attended
the event. Phi Theta Kappa members were not just mentioned but honored. We
also received a thank you letter from Dr Gaba.
 The blood drive will be on Tuesday, October 6th. 9-10 time slots are all filled up
and each person who signed up and attends will save 3 lives with their
donations. The blood drive will take place in the commons and walk-ins are
welcome. Their staff doesn’t need us to help them with the procedure and they
will have their own exit survey.
 Our chapter picked up the most trash at the Belmar beach cleanup and Garnet
picked up the most trash out of everyone there. There was also a BBQ.
 The founder’s day event is Friday, October 16th, which is the same day as the
Induction ceremony. It’s a regional event which we need to attend and invite as
many people as we can. It will be from 9:30 to 4:30, approximately. There will
be folk music, poetry, and Dr. Price as the first speaker.
 We don’t have a service project at the moment and need to discuss this after the
meeting.
 Prof. Stokes will be going out on disability on November 13 th and will be back for
the spring semester.

Next Meeting:

Thursday, October 8th at 12:30 PM in the alumni conference room in the

Nomahegan building.
