3rd Columbus Volunteer Challenge Starts in WP

Come out in full force to show your neighborhood pride

This annual, city-wide event hosted by United Way of

Central Ohio, HandsOn Central Ohio, and the City of
Columbus challenges volunteers, corporations, non-profits,
schools, universities, faith organizations, and other groups
to come together to build a more inspired, proud, and
engaged community. A lasting legacy of Columbus
bicentennial celebration in 2012, the 5-day event kicks off
this year in Weinland Park on September 6!

yards, make early winter preparations,
and maybe even clean up the trash in your

Property Values on the Rise

Weinland Park saw a 10% increase in property values

this past Augustmore than any downtown neighborhood.
Among other things, this number determines your annual
property taxes. Check your mail for a letter from the
Franklin County Auditor, Clarence Mingo, to find out
how you fared in the triennial audit. To contest a change in
property value, attend an Informal Review to provide
appraisers with additional information. Several are
scheduled throughout central Ohiodetails can be found
in the letter you received, on www.franklincountyauditor.
com, or by calling (614) 525-HOME (4663).

eight WP artists, as well as the Weinland Park Story Book,
capturing the neighborhoods stories in illustrations from
a wealth of talent both local and national.

Annual Neighborhood Festival a Success

Once again, the annual Weinland Park Annual Neighborhood Festival was a huge success! Thanks to the hard work
of the Festival Committee and generous donations from
Community Properties of Ohio, Wagenbrenner Development, Godman Guild, Short North Kroger, and The Columbus Foundation.

In-Home Child Care

Providers Wanted

Action for Children, a central Ohio agency dedicated to

developing quality child care, is recruiting Weinland Park
residents to provide child care out of their homes. The
program includes training, business support, and referrals
to member parents. Providers are reimbursed for
providing food to the children.

Attendees enjoyed face-painting, a Bounce House, free food,

many booths from local vendors and organizations, and a
dance floor with fun music all afternoon!

Summer Internship Program

for Godman Guild Youth

A group of a dozen youth from WP experienced a paid internship at

the Godman Guild this summer. First, they worked as trainee gardeners in WP and around other areas in the city.
We even appeared on the morning news, exclaimed Amin Ebady.
Perhaps the most popular endeavor, however, was a cooking competition at the Ohio State Fair. Working with established chefs,
the youth transformed local food from the garden into a delectable
feast.
Intern, Gabriel Gaiusbayode summarized the experience, I loved
everything about the jobexcept for the weeding: being around
people, doing physical activities, the outdoors...and getting paid
didnt hurt either!

Neighbors Enjoy

SUMMER FUN

Despite the heat, humidity, and a few showers, about 60 neighbors boarded the bus to Circle S Farm for a free pint of
pick-your-own strawberries, and an end-of-the-day delicious strawberry shortcake treat courtesy of our hosts. Our
Health & Wellness Committee regularly organizes these lovely field trips and other activities.

McGruff, the famous crime-fighting dog, made a special appearance during National Night Out 2014, encouraging everyone to
work together to take a bite out of crime.

A fledgling young artist completes her masterpiece during the

Red Circle art group held regularly throughout the spring and
summer in the park.

Our Safety Committee Chair, Ahmed Ebady, set up his grill under
the Weinland Park Shelter during National Night Out 2014, so
attendees could enjoy some hot dogs before indulging in a
complimentary Jenis Splendid Ice Cream dessert.
