The Honorable Jan I.euenberger

Division I
200 SE 7'"
Topeka, KS 6660:3

August 1:3, 1997

Dear Judge Leuenberger,

I am writing to update you on the Dombrowski/Richardson case, case
#96DOOOn 7. Claudine Dombrowski called me on 5-21-97 and hecause of
her living so far from Topeka and the family needing monitored
exchanges, I made an -exception and we did her intake over the phone.
Hal Richardson completed his part of the intake on 5-28-97. Hal brought
Rikki in on )-29-97 to see the YMCAand meet the Safe Visit staff. The
first exchange took place on 5-30-97, with Hal bringing Rikki at 6:15 pm.
Rikki began crying as soon as her and Hal came into the YMCAand
continued until Claudine came at 7:00pm. Hal stayed until 6:30 trying to
reassure Rikki, but nothing worked. The next exchange occurred on 6-20-
97. Rikki once again began crying when they entered the building. I asked
\laudine if she would stay until Hal came in hopes of comforting Rikki.
\
She agreed and they stayed in the visit room so Claudine and Hal did not
see each other. Rikki continued to cry, even with her mother there. I took
IUkki to Hal when he arrived and she calmed down somewhat. I discussed
With Hal having him brmg Rikki on 6-27-97 and havi11gClaudine already
here so that Rikki did not have to be upset for very long. Hal agreed and
so did Claudine. The next exchang(' went well because IUkki recognized
Claudme's car when they arrived and I took her to her mother right after
she came to the Y:'-ICA.The next exchange was on 7- I8-97. Hal's older

daughter, Tiffany, picked up Rikki that evening. Once again Rikki cried
when she arrived. The exchange on 7-25-97 went slightly better, but Rikki
was still sad when she arrived. The next exchange is scheduled for 8-15-
97.

I have been working with Hal and Claudine on figuring out what would
best help Rikki during the transition times. She is very upset on leaving
the parent that she is with when she comes to the exchanges. Both
Claudine and Hal have been cooperative with me on trying new things
with the exchanges, all in hopes of making Rikki comfortable. for now we
will continue having both parents here at the same time, but in different
rooms so there is no contact between them. If there is a problem \\ith this
arrangement or if you havl' any questIOns, please call me at 233-9815.

Respectf y SUbmitte~d'
