Scientific Concept

1. Solubility is the property of a solid, liquid or gaseous chemical substance to dissolve in a

liquid, solid or gaseous solvent to form a homogenous solution of the solute in the solvent. 2. Ionic solids (or salts) contain positive and negative ions, which are held together by the strong force of attraction between particles with opposite charge. When one of these solids dissolves in water, the ions that form the solid are released into the solution where they become associated with the polar solvent molecules. 3. Sugar are held by very strong covalent bonds. It does not produce ions when dissolved in water. A solution of sugar contains molecules of sucrose, but no ions.

Glass A (Salt)

Glass B (Sugar)

Two glasses poured with the same amount of water. Two table spoon of SALT was added to glass A and for glass b only one table spoon of sugar. Between salt and sugar, which one can dissolve faster? Why is this happen?

A man was cutting his friends hair with some electric clippers when he suddenly collapsed. The plastic cover near the end of the clippers was broken. When the victims wet hands came into contact with the broken area of the clippers, the shock produced put the victim into cardiac arrest. How does the current from the clippers flow into his body?

Answers

A person gets an electric shock when a current passes through the body. This happens when he comes into contact with live metal or live conductors, which will cause the current to flow through our body. Tap water is a good conductor of electricity. It contain some salt, (sodium) that has the ability to conduct electricity. Distilled water has none of this
