Introduction to Surah Al Falaq

The title of the Surah is ‘Al Falaq’ meaning ‘The Day Break’, this surah was revealed at
Madinah.

Surah AL FALAQ (THE DAY BREAK)

In the name of Allah, The Beneficent, َِٰ

ِ‫ن‬‫ْم‬ ‫َح‬ َ‫م ا‬
‫ّللِ الر‬
ِ ِْ‫ِس‬
‫ب‬
The Merciful
ِ‫َحِي‬
‫م‬ ‫الر‬

Say, "I seek the protection of the Fosterer of ِِ‫ب‬
ِ‫ِر‬‫ُِب‬ِْ
‫ذ‬ ‫و‬‫ِْأع‬
ُِ ُِ
‫ل‬‫ق‬
the day break, 1 ◌‫ق‬
ِ‫الفل‬ْ
2 from the evil of that which He has created, 1 ِ◌ِ ‫رِماِخلق‬ ِ‫ِْش‬ ِِ
‫ن‬‫م‬

and from the evil of the darkness (of night) ِ‫ِذا‬‫ِِإ‬
‫ِق‬ ‫ِْشر‬
‫ِِغاس‬ ِِ
‫ن‬‫وم‬
when it overspreads, 1 ِ◌ِ
‫وقب‬

and from the evil of women blowing in the ‫َف‬
ِ ‫َاث‬
ِِ‫ات‬ ‫ِْشر‬
‫ِِالن‬ ِِ
‫ن‬‫وم‬
knots (practicing witchcraft) 1 ‫ُقد‬
ِ◌ِ ْ ِ‫ِي‬
‫الع‬ ‫ف‬

and from the evil of the envier when he ِ‫ِذا‬
‫ِِإ‬
‫ِد‬ ِ‫ِْش‬
‫رِحاس‬ ِِ
‫ن‬ ‫وم‬
envies." (R 1) 1

This Surah is a prayer requesting Allah (SWT) to keep us safe from all the evils He has
created.
