First Grade Newsletter September 4-17

Notes from the teacher


Please remember to send a dry snack with your child to school each day. Our school doors open at 7:15 a.m. each morning. Please do not arrive earlier than 7:15, as some teachers may not be in their rooms or in a meeting with a parent. City Pass books are due back this week! All forms due by the end of the week, including Scholastic subscription money ($5). Please remember to make checks payable to Scholastic.

Literacy-Reading Workshop: developing a
love for reading and building stamina.

Writing-Establishing a writing community


and writing I like stories.

Math-Developing number sense and


counting/making sets of 20.

Science/Social Studies-Discovering the


three Rs: Respectful, Responsible, Reflective and conducting class meetings.

A look ahead
Were excited about Miss Gero, our school counselor, visiting us next week! Mrs. Hertzfeld will also stop by to teach us about Whole Body Listening. We will begin learning about visualizing and how this skill is important in both reading and writing.
