Do you think this has been a positive change? Why? Why do you think children like playing games? Games and competition: Do you think competitive games are good or bad for children? In what ways? How can games sometimes help to unite people? Why is competition often seen as important in todays society? NOTES: IELTS words (22000 t) Idioms Part 1: How do most people travel to work where you live? In my country, most people travel to work by motorbike. Most of Vietnamese people still live in destitute so their major vehicle to work is motorbike. However, there are still affluent people who use cars to work. Besides, there is a steady increase in the number of people using cars. What traffic problems are there in your area? In my area, there are many traffic problems. One of the major problems is traffic jam. Especially in rush hours, there are usually traffic jams in crossroads which are awful. Another problem is accidents which cause much death and bad consequences for generations. How do traffic problems affect you? Well, firstly, traffic jams get on my nerves. It makes me late for school although I usually try to go to school early. The consequences are more serious when I have a vital test on that day. Secondly, if I am stuck in a traffic jam, I feel very uncomfortable because of noise and polluted smoke. Lastly, it is accidents that make me feel unsafe when driving. I always hope to arrive home safe and sound as soon as possible. How would you reduce the traffic problems in your area?
- 13 -

In my opinion, there are many ways to decrease traffic problems. As far as I am concerned, firstly, we can mitigate this problem by improving civilians awareness through education and propaganda. Secondly, we can reduce traffic problems by enlarging and developing transport systems. Lastly, traffic police should be reinforced to control vehicle lines and solve problems if possible. Part 2: In my opinion, playing sports is quite an effective way to keep fit and healthy. Therefore, I spend much time playing sports, especially, swimming. At weekend or summer vacation, my best chums and I usually go to the swimming pool near my high school. This is a good chance for me to relax and for us to meet each other. At first, I did not like swimming because I was scared of water. However, when seeing my friends feel happy and healthy when swimming, I envied them. From that time, I said to myself that I could not so coward and should surmount my scare. Year in year out, I tried to swim to prove that I could do it although it was not just a piece of cake for me. Finally, I succeeded and swam well. Firstly, I like swimming because it is a popular method to keep me healthy. Secondly, when swimming, we can simultaneously move all parts of our body, which helps our bodies fitter and more flexible. Next, when I swim, I feel very comfortable, fresh and almost forget all my tiredness and sorrow. They are the reasons why most of youngsters choose swimming. Part 3: How have games changed from the time you were a child? As I see it, games changed a lot from the time I was a child. Firstly, games in the past are not as popular as these now. Secondly, games now are more complicated and developing than these in the past because of the advance of technology in many functions. The last and the most disadvantage is the violent games now which have bad influence on players. Do you think this has been a positive change? Why? In my opinion, it is fairly difficult to confirm this has been a positive change. The reason is that this has been both positive and negative. The positive is that the development of games reflects the improvement of technology, the creation of game makers and satisfies the demands of players. However, games now are so attractive that they make many players crazy about them and ignore studying or other outdoor activities. Besides, many games contain violent details which are very harmful to players. Why do you think children like playing games? In my opinion, children like playing games for many reasons. The first reason is games help children relax after hard studying. Secondly, children were attracted by the excellent effects
- 14 -

of graphic art, sound and even 3-dimensional effects. Lastly, games help children out of genuine life and bring them to a virtual world in which that can be a king or a queen. Do you think competitive games are good or bad for children? In what ways? In my opinion, competitive games are both good and bad for children. They are good because they teach children to fight difficulties. Besides, they teach children that nothing is easy to gain and we must fight to take it. However, competitive games still have bad effect on children. If players are not strong and astute enough, they will have blind faith in these games. They will bring what they have faced in games to real life and become violent and warlike. How can games sometimes help to unite people? In my opinion, games sometimes help to unite people because there is also a virtual world in games. Games can be a world that gathers people having the same interest which is playing games. We can see that there are many websites or associations which were established by game players for many purposes such as sharing experience or even doing charity. Therefore, we can see that games sometimes help to unite people. Why is competition often seen as important in todays society? In my opinion, there are many reasons why competition is often seen as vital in todays society. Firstly, the more and more developing society is, the more and more competitive it is. To survive, people need competitions. For example, there are competitions between companies to get profits and customers. Secondly, competition makes the improvement of society. For example, competition makes companies have to innovate technology and make their products outstanding. Therefore, competition partially brings good things to society. IELTS 6, SPEAKING TEST 1. Do you think that traditional dancing will be popular in the future? Part 2: Describe someone in your family who you like. In terms of personality, are people more influenced by their family or their friends? In what ways? Genetic research. Where can people in your country get information about genetic research? How do people in your country feel about genetic research? Should this research be funded by governments or private companies? Why? NOTES: IELTS words (22000 t) Idioms Nhng t v PROBABILITY Part 1: Do you enjoy dancing? [Why/Why not?] Yes, I find dancing really interesting. Every dance has its own specialties which distinguish it with others. In my opinion, one of the most outstanding things of each dance is that each goes along with different kinds of music, which makes dancing more attractive. As I see it dancing not only makes your soul more romantic and relax but also makes your body more flexible and fit. Besides, dancing helps your health better. Therefore, if I have a chance to learn dancing, it is certain not just a piece of cake for me and very difficult to learn but I will try to study well. Has anyone ever taught you to dance? [Why/Why not?] Yes. Although I have not ever participated in any class of dancing, I could be proud to say to you that I used to be taught to dance by my teacher. I had a memory happening about three years ago related to dancing. I did not remember clearly how it happened. I supposed that as we were studying in her extra class, inadvertently the power was cut. Therefore, instead of waiting for power, she decided to teach us some basic dancing. It is the first time that I knew what dancing is. It is a good memory in my heart that I cannot forget. Tell me about any traditional dancing in your country. One of the unique traditional dancings in my country is Southern Lion Dance, which means ma ln. It originated from China. Lion Dance is usually performed in Mid Autumn
- 16 -

Festival and Lunar New Year. As an art, Southern Lion Dance has its principles and rules. A Lion dance usually lasts from 20 to 25 minutes. A lion dance cannot lack the Earth God which means ng a. A Southern Lion Dance performance is very animated with instruments such as drum, firecrackers. It is really interesting. It is performed to welcome good things and wipe out all bad things. Do you think that traditional dancing will be popular in the future? I concur with you. In my opinion, traditional dancing is a precious thing of a country. Therefore, they need to be preserved and popular in the future. It is likely that the government will have plans to make Southern Lion Dance more popular in our country so that Southern Lion Dance will be a vital part of Vietnamese culture. Southern Lion Dance will probably appear more frequently in special ceremonies. It is worth being preserved. Part 2: In my family, the person I love most is my grand father who passed away about six years ago because of cancer. When I was just a child, my parents usually went to work. Therefore, I stayed at home with him and our relationship was quite good. He was very friendly and helpful. Whenever my friends came to my house, he usually greeted them with cordiality. He liked growing flowers very much. It was the reason why there were flowers galore in my garden. Every morning I tried to get up early to garden the flowers and enjoy the fresh atmosphere with him. He loved me very much and I was an apple of his eyes. When I went to primary school, it was he that rode me on his bike to take me travel back and forth between my house and school. When he passed away, I felt like having a broken heart. I was sad and cried so much. I missed him. I missed every time we had been together, missed his gentle and righteous smiles. From that time, I became reserved and did not want to talk to anyone. A long time passed. I realized that I could not continue living like this. I could not be a coward person. I must be strong despite the tragedy in life as what he had advised me to. I decided to dance to another tune to live well as my grand father hoped. Part 3: In what ways can people in a family be similar to each other? In my opinion, people in a family can have a resemble to each other in two basic ways which are their appearance and their characters. As I see it, there are two main reasons why people in a family can have similarity to each other. The first is their gene and the other is the environment of living together which makes them similar to each other. Do you think that daughters are always more similar to mothers than to male relatives?

- 17 -

I do not have the same opinion to you. As far as I know, sex just partially plays an important role in this matter. The similarities can originate from other reasons such as environment of living together. Take myself, for example. I am resembled to my father more than to my mother in both my appearance and my personalities. What about sons and fathers? As I have mentioned, sex just partially plays an important role in this matter. The similarities can be traced from other reasons such as environment of living together. Take my father, for example. My father is similar to my grand mother in his appearance and to my grand father in most of his characters such as strictness and deservedness. In terms of personality, are people more influenced by their family or their friends? In what ways? In my opinion, we cannot say that peoples personality totally depends on their family or their friends. Two ways affect peoples personality simultaneously. However, I divide two periods of time which they influence most. The first is when they have not gone to school. At that time, the behaviors of their family play a vital part in their characters. The other is when they go to school. At that time, they will meet their friends even more than their family. Therefore, their friends will influence them more than their family during this period. Where can people in your country get information about genetic research? As far as I am concerned, people in my country get information about genetic research through books, magazines or newspapers. How do people in your country feel about genetic research? It is quite new to Vietnamese people. There are many people in my country who still live in destitute so their knowledge is not high. Therefore, they cannot realize the importance of this matter. Should this research be funded by governments or private companies? Why? I think government should have main responsibility in this research. Besides, private companies should participate in this important research if they want. IELTS 6, SPEAKING TEST 2. jams. Secondly, about the accidents, the government has to prohibit heavily towards persons who break traffic laws. And last but not least, we need to add the traffic problems to childrens curriculum in order that the children can acquaint with the traffic problems. This is an efficient way for the children to set up their awareness about the traffic problems. PART 2: Describe a game or sport that you prefer playing The sport that I like to play most is swimming. Swimming is the best sport that is suitable for both children and adults. As you all know, following scientific research, if you swim from thirty minutes to sixty minutes everyday, you can wear out 790 calories. If you practice swimming everyday, you can have a permanent elegant figure year in year out. Moreover, swimming frequently will bring you a good heath, comfortable mind and body beauty. Although swimming has just been introduced into Viet Nam, it proves its benefits for protecting heath. It also helps us to prevent the cardiovascular disease. In my free time, I usually go swimming with my friends in the pool which is a stones throw away from my house. Day by day, I feel healthier, more comfortable and more optimistic. Simultaneously, swimming is a good sport which does not make many traumas like other sports such as, volleyball, jogging, basketball and so on. Thanks to swimming, I become heathier and happier. PART 3: Children's games How have games changed from the time when you were a child? When I was a child, games were different from now. As you all know, in the past, the games were very simple and easy to play. Compared with the games in the past, the games in the present are more and more modern, difficult and attractive. Moreover, you can find a virtual world in those games in which the characters have their own lives. This is what the games in the past did not have. Do you think this has been a positive change? Why? As I have seen, this change has been both positive and negative because of many reasons. In good ways, this change brings us more attractive games which help us to relax and enjoy ourselves. In addition, the games that are complicated will bring us keen intelligence. In bad ways, if you are attracted into those fascinating games, they can turn you into a game addict. Moreover, you may become a rude person day by day because of the violent actions in the modern games. Why do you think children like playing games?

- 23 -

Personally, I think there are several reasons why children enjoy playing games. Firstly, they like playing games because of the games attraction and flutter. Secondly, this is a cheap pleasure and easy to play with the graphic sounds and images which are lively, new and suit the characters of the young. Thirdly, playing games helps children to satisfy their curiosity and hunger for success. This is the childrens psychology enjoying discovering new things. And last but not least, games help them to relax after the stressful classes. Topic: Games and competition: Do you think competitive games are good or bad for children? In what ways? In my point of view, competitive games are both good and bad for children. In good ways, there are many benefits that those games bring to us. Firstly, playing competitive games develop natural reflex abilities and help players to be quicker on the uptake year in, year out. Secondly, playing those games are good for not only the young but also the old. It makes them develop their aptitudes and memory. More importantly, playing those games regularly helps children to develop IQ and English in games. Finally, games help children to escape heavy subjects in school and enjoy themselves. On the contrary, playing competitive games excessively make children become addictive and affect to the players health. In other words, they go gaga over the games, neglect their study and spend all time playing games. Consequently, their study is neither fish nor fowl. More dangerously, they can become rude persons because of the violent actions in the games. In conclusion, depending on the measure of players, playing those games may be good or bad for children. How can games sometimes help to unite people? As we all know, community of game players sometimes make positive aspects for games. Apart from the entertainment purpose, playing games also helps us to enlarge friendly relations, especially the online games. We can make friends with strange persons through games. The members in games also join together in social activities, such as charitable organizations. 3. Why is competition often seen as important in todays society? As you all know, the law of development is competition. I think that there are two reasons that competition is often seen as vital in todays society. Firstly, in a society which is more and more modern and advanced, people always exert themselves very much to catch up with the development of the society. As a result, they have to compete with others to gain good things. For instance, nowadays, there are many rival companies because they want to achieve profits, market, customers, upper hand in the society and so on. Secondly, thank to this
- 24 -

competition, the society is more and more developed, advanced and perfect. If there are not competitions, human beings are always behind the times. Therefore, I confirm with you that competition is really necessary in the society nowadays. IELTS 6, TEST 1 PART 1: Dancing Do you enjoy dancing? Why/ Why not? There is very little chance that I am able to know traditional dancing galore, but I think that my country has 54 ethnic groups and every ethnic group has a particular traditional dancing. I have only seen the folk dancing in my country. Do you think that traditional dancing will be popular in the future? PART 2: Describe someone in your family who you like In my family, my mother is a person whom I like and respect most. In my view, she is the most wonderful woman. When I was a child, she was always the person who took care of me considerably, every meal, every sleep as well as my study. Year in, year out, she always gave me useful hints as well as encouragements. When I had troubles, she usually helped me to stand up, extricated and gave me faith in my life, which made me dance to another tune. Although she was a bit trying with housework and the sewing, she still spent time talking to my younger sister and me frequently. She said that we were feathers in her cap, which helped us to exert ourselves very much. She had deep eyes and tender looks. Her long black hair and tall nose made her nicer. My mother is the most influential and important woman to me. PART 3: Family similarities In what ways can people in a family be similar to each other? Besides, in characters, my sister and I are similar to my mother. Sometimes, I am timorous. Do you think that daughters are always more similar to mothers than to male relatives? I dissent to you that daughters are always more similar to mothers than to male relatives. I think that there are still cases that daughters are more similar to fathers than to mothers like
- 26 -

my aunts family. In her family, in spite of being female, the daughter is similar to her father while the son is similar to his mother. However, we cant deny having many cases that sons are still more similar to their fathers than to their mothers. For example, my boyfriend is really a chip off the old block. In terms of personality, are people more influenced by their family or by their friends? In what ways? I think that people are more influenced by their family when they were young. For the reason, when they were young, their parents frequently got in touch with them in order to take care of or educate them. Therefore, they were affected by their parents personalities. However, when they are grown up and go to school, they are usually influenced by their friends in many aspects, especially characters. If you are in a group, you often have behaviors like them because you regularly get in touch with them. Genetic research Where can people in your country get information about genetic research? People in my country usually get information about genetic research in hospitals or professional universities, such as, Medicine University, or genetic research institutes and so on. How do people in your country feel about genetic research? Although genetic research is an advanced scientific achievement that is important to human beings, in my country it is really not developed. However, I think that genetic research is more and more popular and developed, year in, year out. Should this research be funded by governments or private companies? Why? In my point of view, genetic research should be funded by government because of its importance to my countrys development. I think that it is necessary that government should concern about it considerably. SPEAKING TEST 3 IELTS CAMBRIDGE 6 PAGE 77 PART 1 How do most people travel to work where you live? travel to work. By using public transportation, they can save money, save fuel, which is not only beneficial to them but also good for environment. What traffic problems are there in your area? In the place where I live, traffic problems are not too severe but that does not mean there is none of them. Traffic jam sometimes occurs in Thuduc crossroad and Hanoi highway. The reasons for this problem are varied. They can be the traffic accidents or the situation of lacking electricity for the traffic light. In addition, traffic accidents are also a problem that needs to be paid attention to. However I think that not only do the traffic accidents occur in my area but it is also a common problem of traffic in everywhere year in year out. How do traffic problem affect you? Every day, I go to the bus station early to catch the number 6 bus to travel to the university. Traffic problem, especially traffic jam, can make the bus be delayed. Then, I will be late for school; I will miss the lectures of professors and sometimes I cant even find a vacant seat in lecture hall. At the end of a day, traffic problems take me much time to go home. That leads to the state that I dont have enough time for myself and my family. How would you reduce the traffic problem in your area? To reduce the traffic problem in my area, I think we should start with ourselves. When using vehicle, we should abide by the traffic rudes. Besides, we can participate in some voluntary activities such as Green summer. The people participating in Green summer can help police to control the traffic in the crossroads. Thereby, the traffic jam can be reduced. Moreover, the green summer soldiers can come to primary schools and secondary high schools to teach teenagers about traffic rudes. PART 2 Describe a game or sport you enjoy playing Sport is not my interest. Therefore, I do not like any of them. In contrast, I feel extremely interested in some smart games. One of them is puzzle. Puzzle is known as a smart game that can develop swift and critical mind. Moreover, it also helps practice memory. A puzzle set comprises a picture that is separated into many pieces. There can be 10 to 100 pieces or even 300, 400 pieces. The task for players is to find and arrange all of the pieces for the right positions. There are many types of puzzle, but I do not know exactly how many types the puzzle has. I have just played two types of them, which are the puzzle made from paper and the puzzle made from wood. The puzzle made from wood is less popular than the other is. It is often made for little children with 10 or 15 pieces and the size of a piece is definitely bigger.
- 28 -

When I have not attended classes at the university, I have more leisure, I often play puzzle with my younger sister every weekend. Now I do not have enough time, so I just play puzzle once or twice a month. Sometimes if my mother has free time, I also play puzzle with her. Playing puzzle, I feel very happy. It makes me relax after school time. Moreover, it is good for my mind. Especially, it is greatly economic. When playing puzzle, I do not have to pay more fee, just paying one time for the first. PART 3 Childrens games How have games changed from the time when you were a child? Nowadays, games have changed dramatically from the time when I was a child. 10 years ago, children often played the games that are smooth and simple. These games had a tendency to be friendly and educational. They could help children to develop some skill and play a part in building childrens mind. Now games are too complicated and self-centered. Most of the games that children are playing every day are computer games. That means children play with a machine and they do not have any chance to communicate directly with other people. They will close down their mind and become an isolated island. Do you think this has been a positive change? Why? I think this change is both negative and positive. If we consider the development of technology, it is a positive change. Without the dramatic development of technology, we cannot make many of the attractive games. In contrast, if we consider the consequence of games, I think that this has been a negative change. There are so many reasons for this. Firstly, modern games with computer will make children give their creativity up. Secondly, modern games will wear communicating skill out. Thirdly, modern games make children be diverged from the real life. Why do you think children like playing games? In daily life, a child just can be a child or even a poor child. However, in games a child can be a queen, a prince, a princess, a king or even a killer. What is greater than the ability to become whatever you want, especially with a child, it is a magic. The other reason is that when playing games children can relax after school. Moreover, with the jolly sounds and colorful images, games definitely become one of the childrens interests. Games and competition Do you think competitive games are good or bad for children? In what way?

- 29 -

I think that competitive games are both good and bad for children. About good effect, it stimulates the individual ability of children. We know that development just occurs whenever competitions exist. About bad effect, competitive games can make children become eager for success. The person who is eager for success will have a tendency to be self-important. That is not nice at all. How can games sometimes help to unite people? When a group of people plays a game together in a team, the team spirit will have chance to develop. Thereby, people in this group can be united. Especially with the competitive games, the team spirit is promoted considerably. Why is competition often seen as important in todays society? We know that development just occurs whenever competitions exist. In todays society, there are more people but fewer opportunities. Therefore, competition plays an important role as the driving force to make anyone work hard to success. Moreover, when everybody works hard, we can increase many of the good things for our society. - 30 -

What kind of choices do people have to make in their everyday life? Why do some people choose to do the same things every day? Are there any disadvantages in this? Do you think that people have more choices to make today than in the past? Part 1: 22000 T IDIOMS Do you prefer to have one particular friend or a group of friends? [Why?] Personally, I prefer to have one particular friend. Firstly, it is quite hard for us to find people who have the same hobbies, thinking and attitudes to us and will be next to us rain or shine. Secondly, if I have a particular chum, it will be easier for me to share my sorrow and happiness than having a group of friends. Lastly, I suppose friendship between one - to one outlasts more than that in a group of friends. What do you like doing most with your friends? I have activities galore to enjoy with my friends. Firstly, I like chatting with them to share everything such as sorrow, happiness, the news of famous people and so on. Secondly, I prefer to spend my time going to the cinema to enjoy our favorite movies. Lastly, I love having vacations with them, especially on beaches. At that time, it is nothing but fun and games. Do you think its important to keep in contact with friends you knew as a child? [Why/Why not?] In my opinion, it is essential for us to keep in touch with friends we knew as children. Firstly, friendships from childhood are worth being preserved because they are very pure and contain many beautiful memories. Secondly, it is not harmful to have more friends because friendship is the gift which God gives human. Therefore, I prefer to have as many friends as possible. What makes a friend into a good friend? In my opinion, what makes a friend into a good friend depends on individuals attitudes. In my opinion, one of the factors which make a good friend is great understanding. You cannot be a good friend if you do not understand your chums well. Secondly, it is generosity. There is always dispute between friends. Therefore, if you are not generous enough to forgive your friends, your friendships will be fragile. Lastly, it is care that makes you a good friend. Part 2:
- 31 -

In my opinion, during our daily days, we have to give many important alternatives. I had made a vital choice in my life about 2 years ago. At that time, an entrance examination to the university was approaching and I had to give my decision of universities between Banking University and University of Social Sciences and Humanities. One side was my dream of being a journalist but I found myself not suitable for it. The other was a vocation with high salaries, positions and suitable for my ability. After careful consideration, I decided to choose Banking University, which is famous for its training of Banking and Finance. You have to fulfill certain criteria to become a student of Banking University. Notwithstanding having a little hesitance when making this choice, year in year out I realize that I had made a judicious choice. The studying environment here is very good and professional. The teachers always teach us with cordiality and dedication. In my opinion, we should think carefully before making important choices so that we will not regret after that. Part 3: What are the typical choices people make at different stages of their lives? I divide our lives into three major periods. The first is when we are little children. During this period, our choices are quite simple so choices are made by adults for us. The second is when we are teenagers. The alternatives in this period are much more complicated and important than those in the first period such as what school to go, what to wear beautifully, what is delicious to eat. These choices require us to be astute and careful to make. The last is when we are adults and we have to make decisions comprising choices about husbands, wives, children and so on. Should important choices be made by parents rather than by young adults? As I see it, important choices should be made by both parents and young adults. Each generation has their own advantages and shortcomings. Therefore, before we make important choices, it is indispensable for us to consider both opinions of parents and young adults to make the best choices. Why do some people like to discuss choices with other people? In my opinion, firstly, it is quite hard for us to know whether the decisions we make are right or wrong. When discussing with others, we can have their objective comments to help us make the best choices. Secondly, we can have their advice to decide what the best is; even we can discover other better choices. What kind of choices do people have to make in their everyday life? In my opinion, there are various choices we have to make in our daily lives. They are what to wear, what to eat, where to go, what to play, etc. They are quite familiar to us that some
- 32 -

people are bored of making these choices. However, life is a chain of choices and making choices is for a living and surviving. Therefore, we should adapt ourselves to choices. Why do some people choose to do the same things every day? Are there any disadvantages in this? In my opinion, some people choose to do the same things every day because their current lives are so smooth that they do not want any changes and want to remain what they are possessing. Secondly, they are scared of changes. They think they cannot be strong enough to bear new things and new challenges. There are some disadvantages in this. The first is their lives are not absorbing and just chains of boring days. Secondly, they will be fragile and coward when facing with new challenges while life means waves. Do you think that people have more choices to make today than in the past? I concur with that statement. Firstly, the society now is more developing than that in the past. Therefore, people are given more alternatives to make. Clear evidence of this statement is food, beverages, schools, clothes, etc. Secondly, people have more abundant physical and spiritual lives. It is the reason why choices now are more complicated and plentiful. IELTS 6 - SPEAKING TEST 3 Note: IELTS words Idioms Introducing a personal opnion ------------------------------------------------------------------PART 1. How do most people travel to work where you live? Most people at the place I live travel to work by motorbike. It is the most convenient vehicle in my country because the roads are narrow and terrible. It is unsuitable for big vehicles to travel as they may cause dangerous driving. What traffic problems are there in your area? [Why?] Traffic problems occur in my area frequently. One of them is accidents. These come from the driver's carelessness. They don't care about others while they are driving and when they cause an accident for someone, the final result usually is the death. This has been a catastrophe for us in many years. How do traffic problems affect you?
- 33 -

Traffic problems affect my mind a lot. I once saw an accident with a pitiful decease of a pregnant woman. Since then I have always felt scared of going out by any vehicles. I didn't dare to ride alone. The accident haunted me for an extended time up to now. How would you reduce the traffic problems in your area? Actually, I cannot reduce the traffic problems in my area myself. I think the local government should improve civilians' responsibility and knowledge. Simultaneously, we must show them advantages of wearing helmets as well as stop them from drinking alcohols before driving. I believe these ways will reduce many bad things in traffic. PART 2 Describe a game or sport you enjoy playing. I love watching and playing sport. One of the sports I enjoy most is swimming. I usually go swimming with my cronies on weekends. We swim in a pool near my school. At first, I was timorous. I was afraid of sinking. But thanks to the help of my friends, I finally extricated that fear and swam better.Swimming helps me a lot. It makes me stronger and healthier. After a hard-working week, swimming is the best way to relax. It also gives me the courage. At one time, I'd ever felt that I could never swim and I didn't dare to try. But after I was taught to swim, I was taught to surmount obstacles simultaneously. Now I havent' had the alias for chicken-hearted girl anymore. The lesson I've learned from swimming was that you shouldn't get the chance slip by when it comes as it can bring to you a great success. PART 3 Children's games How have games changed from the time when you were a child? In my opinion, games have changed a lot from the time when I was a child. They've changed in formality and content. Game makers use 3-Dimension technology for their games while in my childhood, games were very simple. I played games with a TV and a home video. Today, children play game in computers or even in mobile phones. Do you think this has been a positive change? Why? I think this has not been a positive change. Reversely, this has been a negative change. I've read many bad results about playing games on newspapers. Gamers attracted to games procrastinate their tasks in genuine life. They are always haunted by the characters in their games. They cannot concentrate on anything but games. Their work, their lives and their families are no longer significant than the game they play. Why do you think children like playing games?

- 34 -

It appears that children like playing games for two reasons. Firstly, games make them feel like they are masters. They can kill anyone at anytime. They can do anything they want that they can't do in genuine life. Secondly, they are attracted by alluring pictures and characters in games which are made by 3-D technology. Therefore, games attract children easily. Games and competition Do you think competitive games are good or bad for children? In what ways? As I see it, competitive games are bad for children. In the way games are made, the characters usually have to fight against the others to survive. Hence, gamers are driven with characters in their battles. But when a gamer loses battle, he may be angry and cause a real fight in genuine life. To prove their power as they do in games, they may even kill others and this is really a bad result. How can games sometimes help to unite people? Although games bring us many bad consequences, they sometimes help to unite people. I have seen many gamers founded a charity to help poor people. They have offline meetings to raise money as well as to propagate bad things when playing games too much. That's the way games are useful to us. Why is competition often seen as important in today's society? In my view, competition has a positive meaning in today's society. It makes us more active and dynamic in our works. We always have to be in a prepared posture to compete with others. I am sure that none of us wants to be a loser, and competition is a way we comfirm ourselves. Besides, through competition, we will realize our fortes to develop them as well as imperfections to surmount. As a result, our society will become better and better. SPEAKING IELTS 6, PAGE 54. singer who can play it skillfully, I wanted to play it like he does. From that time I said to myself that I should surmount my difficulties and try to do it although it was not a piece of cake for me. Finally, my effort was worth, I succeeded and could make my dream come true. Do you think children should learn to play a musical instrument at school? I think they should learn to play a musical instrument at school. There are many reasons why I think so. Firstly, it is a popular way for them to relax after studying hard. Secondly, playing a musical instrument will be helpful for them to improve their agility. Lastly, when playing those, children can listen to music that makes them develop their brains. How easy would it be to learn to play an instrument without a teacher? I think children can easily play instruments themselves because there are many modern instruments which are easy for them to play. Besides, many programs on television teach audiences to play certain instrument. However, sometimes, they can see many difficulties to play them; therefore, it is better to learn an instrument with the help of teachers. Part 2: Describe something healthy you enjoy doing: You should say: What you do Where you do it Who you do it with and explain why you think doing this is healthy. When I was a child, I always admired one of the most famous athletics in basket ball field. As I grew older, I like playing basket ball so much. Every day, I often go to a vacant stadium near my home. At first, I played it very badly because I was not tall and skillful enough. But when seeing my idol played it easily I said to myself that I should overcome my difficulty. With the help of my brother, I always practiced playing basket ball when I had free time. Finally, as people usually say: "every dog has his day" I succeeded and played it well. At weekends, I often invite my best friends to go to my home and play ball. develop my height. Lastly, when playing ball, I feel very comfortable because I can forget all my stress and sorrows. Part 3: What do most people do to keep fit in your country? In my country, there are many ways to keep fit that people usually do. The old do exercise in clubs for the old-aged every day. The young also practice to keep healthy in many clubs, such as swimming pools, gym clubs etc. But young people do not have much time to do that on weekdays; therefore we can see that there are many young people do those at weekends. How important is it for people to do some regular physical exercise? Doing some regular physical exercise is very vital for people. Firstly, it helps the young to develop their muscles. Through that way their bodies become brawnier. Secondly, they can improve their healthy. Besides, it can prolong the olds age for many years and makes them always feel happy and love their lives. Lastly, it is a good way for both of them to forget their stress and sorrows in their jobs and lives. Why do some people think that modern lifestyles are not healthy? In my opinion, there are many reasons why they think that modern lifestyles are not healthy. Our society is developing. Therefore our jobs demand us to spend much time finishing them. After our office hours, we still have many things that pull all of our energy into, such as taking care of our family, doing housework etc. Between jobs and family, we do not have enough time to relax and do exercise. Therefore, people sometimes think that the modern life is not healthy. Why do some people choose to lead unhealthy lives? People do not have many choices. They spend much time doing their jobs in their offices as well as their homes. After finishing all jobs, they become tired and need the rest little for a time to watch television, to listen to music and even to sleep. For those reasons, people choose to lead unhealthy lives. Should individuals and government should be responsible for making peoples lifestyle healthy? I think both individuals and government should be responsible for making peoples lifestyle healthy. To individuals, they should arrange their office jobs as well as family jobs appropriately. For instance, they could have a timetable of their own jobs and try to have a short time on weekdays to do exercise. Besides, they can join in many healthy clubs in their areas. To government, they should have many policies to
- 37 -

improve the health of their citizens and encourage people to play sports through propaganda. What could be done to encourage people to live in a healthy way? In my opinion, government has to encourage people to innovate their health. Firstly, they must have an annual budget to improve many old sports instruments. Secondly, they have to hold sporting events for every one to join in. Lastly, children should understand more about benefits of doing exercise through education, and have many chances to play sports, so when they grow up, they will get use to playing sports. [Why] I think it is not easy to learn an instrument without a teacher if we know nothing about it. We can learn from books, websites and so on. Although there are many changes helping us improve our life, people are affected by some bad things. For example, environmental pollution brings out serious consequences such as strange diseases, the death of many creature, holed ozone layer and so on. In addition, people want to find much money so they try to work and study even not relax. I think it makes them stress and not enjoy their life. -Why do some people choose to lead unhealthy lives? We cant answer exactly why some people choose to live unhealthily. In my view, a part of reason for this is satisfying the needs of people. To pay for their needs, they think they cant choose any other ways but only earn much money. It means that they must abdicate entertainment and relaxation after hard days in order to spend time working. It is easy to lead to stress because of dispensing with taking a rest after strenuous work. -Should individuals or governments be responsible for making peoples lifestyle healthy?

- 39 -

I think that both individuals and governments should be responsible for making peoples lifestyle healthy. Each person wants to have things what they want so they try their best to achieve their purpose even not take care of their health. Besides, governments cant resist making themselves responsible for this. People are under influence of their policies and controlled by laws. What could be done to encourage people to live in a healthy way? In my view, there are some ways to encourage people to keep healthy life. Firstly, we should show and elucidate how the healthy life is and what advantage it leads to. Secondly, governments hold programs about healthy life in order to help people aware of it. In this way, all people live in a healthy way in the future. PART 1 V PART 2 CA PHN SPEAKING TEST 4 IELTS 6 Part 1 1. My English teacher often says to us that before she makes any decision, she will think about 10 ten years later and asks herself whether she regrets or not. One year ago, I made a choice about which university I had to enter. I used to want to become a teacher but when I registered, I chose the business administration. I felt worried about my decision. However, the door of university began to open for my new life, I have many chances to improve and pursue my dream. Sometimes, the things you like don't mean that you can do better. difficult to be in agreement with each other because of the mutual character differences. Secondly, a particular friend who understands me thoroughly is a person I feel comfortable to share with her my confidents, interests, happiness and sorrow. What do you like doing most with your friends? In my free time, I like going to my friends house which is a stones throw away from mine in order to cook and chat with her. I am very eager to tell her about my favorite films, music, new friends and so on. Do you think its important to keep in contact with friends you knew as a child? Why/ Why not? In my opinion, it is vital to keep in touch with friends I knew as a child. As you know, friends in childhood are persons having memories with us when we were children. It is very interesting if we have opportunities to chat with them about incidents in the past. What makes a friend into a good friend? There is a saying, A friend in need is a friend indeed. I concur with this saying that the real friends are persons helping us with pleasure when we have troubles in life. I think what makes a friend into a good friends is simply that they sympathize with us, share with us happiness as well as sorrow with a sincere heart. PART 2: Describe an important choice you had to make in your life. Perhaps I had many vital choices to make in my life. One of them was a choice of which universities to attend. I wondered if I should choose the University of Economics and Law or go to the University of Social sciences and Humanities. I am interested not only in economics but also in knowledge of foreign cultures and translation fields. It seems that it was very difficult for me to make up my mind. My parents and my friends thought that it would be better for me to choose the University of Economics and Law which was suitable to the majors that I had studied for three years in high school. That was no laughing matter, so I had to rack my brain to find the best choice. After sober consideration, I took the plunge and decided to study the University of Social sciences and Humanities. Up to now, I have not still known whether that choice was the best choice for me or not but I believe that if I exert myself very much, I am able to extricate myself and achieve success. The thing I took out was that if I did not try, I would never know what I could do. Gradually, I was able to adapt to my specialty which I used to think it was an impossible thing. 1.

Do you prefer to have a particular friend or a group of friends? Why?

Personally, I prefer to have a group of friends. I like that for the simple reason that it is really easy to discover the problems in each others studies so that we can issue the best solution to deal with them. I mean having a group of friends could probably help me, in particular and the entire group as a whole make advance in schoolwork. 2. What do you like doing most with your friends? I would like the idea of going downtown with my friends. Like everyone at university, my friends and I are usually under stress. So we always have the time to burn off stress. We often take a bus to go to downtown for pleasure. In downtown, we usually find somewhere to eat together, play games and talk to each other about non-sense issues. I can say that going downtown is the thing that I like doing the most with my friends. 3. Do you think it is important to keep in contact with friends you knew as a child? In my point of view, that is for sure. It is really important for me to keep in touch with my childhood friends because you know what, everyone on the earth always has the good memories in their childhood, and I am no exception. As a sensitive person, I usually take time to recall the childhood memories. At that time, I have got the feeling of missing my childhood friends so much. That feeling always brings about my decision to contact them by making a phone call in order to remind them some good memories that we had together. And that helps the friendship more and more steadfast. 4. What make a friend into a good friend? As the saying goes A friend in need is a friend in deed. Therefore, to be a good friend, firstly you have to be a friend in need. I mean you have to try to understand the situation from your friends point of view and you have to do the actions which show that you care about them; you are not going to run away. Secondly, a good friend has to know how to get along with other friends. And finally, you have to keep in touch with your friends. I mean in some cases if you cannot be with your friends when in need; let you think about sending a message or phoning them to show that you are there with them. PART II: Describe an important choice. You know, I was in a bit of predicament because I had passed the entrance exam to two flagship universities. Actually, in 2008, like everyone who graduated from high schools, I applied to two well known universities in Viet Nam. They are my favorite universities. To be honest, when I sat for the entrance exam, I was not sure of myself I could probably go to any universities because there was something seriously wrong on my tests. So I was really
- 43 -

worried about the result. But fortunately for me when the result was released, I received the breaking news from my teacher; he said that I got the good marks on the tests. I can say that I could not believe what I was hearing but to be honest I do not know how happy I was when I heard that news. However, after that I got into a situation in which I did not know which university I had to choose because both of them are really celebrated these days. After a long time thinking, I finally extended a choice; I would study at Banking University Ho Chi Minh city (BUH) to serve my dream of becoming a businessman. Personally I think studying business at BUH would be the best decision I have ever made. When I made it, I got the feeling of happiness and excitement because I believe this is the best way to make my dream come true. PART 3: 1. What are the typical choices people make at different stages of their lives? As far as I know, there are three stages in which people make the typical choices. The first one is the childhood. I can see no typical choice in this stage of peoples lives. Because in this stage people are still dependent upon their parents, they have to agree to obey their parents. The second one is the teenage stage. In the early stage, people still depend on their parents. They just have the basic rights such as going to school or something like that. Only in the late teenage stage, people are going to have the right to make their important choices like what they will do for their living. I mean they can choose their university to study and their job or anything like that. And the final is the adult stage. In this stage, the most important choice that people have to make is getting married. 2. Should important choices be made by parents rather than by young adults? Well actually I do not know for sure about that, but in my opinion young adults play a main role in making important choices for their lives. But I do not mean the parents play no roles in it. I mean that when young adults have an important choice to make, they should discuss it with their parents in order to get their advice. And the decision maker would be the young adults. 3. Why do some people like to discuss choices with other people? As far as I am concerned, people love discussing choices with other people for the simple reason. They want to refer to other peoples advice about these choices. They want to know if the advisers were in their situation, what they would do.

IELTS 6 TEST 4: idiom ielts words PART 1: Your friends Do you prefer to have one particular friend or a group of friends? Why? Personally, I prefer to have one particular friend. Firstly, I had a very close chum and we have played together for seven years. Secondly, I feel very lucky to have a great friend who has the same hobbies, understands me and will be next to me rain or shine. Lastly, when I have something sad, my friend is alwayls listening, sharing and giving me many useful comforting words. What do you like doing most with your friends? I have activities galore with my friend. Sometimes, especially free time, my best crony and I go out and paint the town red to relax after hard studies. We can share everything such as happiness, sorrow and talk about some boys around us. We also usually spend a day exchanging the lesson at school. Do you think it is important to keep in contact with friends you knew as a child? Why? I concur with that statement. Firstly, it is quite hard for us to find the genuine amities through many years which are worth being preserved. Secondly, if you have many friends in your life, you will not feel lonely. Therefore, it is essential for us to keep in contact with friends we knew as a child and try to last make it forever. What make a friend into a good friend? In my view, one of the factors which makes a good friends is that they should be interested in each other. You can not be a good friend if you do not help your friends in difficult stages because there is a saying: "A friend in need is a friend indeed". Secondly, it is confidence. There is sometimes misunderstanding between friends. Therefore, if you do not have enough confidence with your friends, you will argue with them. This makes amities fragile. And last but not least, you should be willing to forgive all the faults of your friends when they intend to reconcile. PART 3: What are the typical choices people make at differrent stages of their lives? Our lives are divided into three major periods. The first is when we are children. Most of our choices are very simple and made by our parents. The second is when we are teenagers. The changes and decisions in this period are complicated and vital. All choices must be reflected before we decide anything such as what school to go, which friends to play, what to wear and
- 45 -

what to eat etc. The last when we are adults and the decisions are equally important such as vocations, loves, marriages and so on. Should important choices should be made by parents rather than by young adults? In my opinion, crucial choices should be made by both parents and young adults because each generation has various and diversified opinions. Our parents are the ones who have experienced in life and young adults are the ones who have a part same characters and hobby similar to us. Therefore, we need to collect all opinions and then scrutinize to make the best choices. Why do some people like to discuss choices with other people? It appears that people like to discuss choices with other people because they want to consult more opinions. It is so hard for us to know whether choices are right or wrong. When discussing with others, we can have their advice to make the best choices. However, reference is just reference so we must make decisions for ourselves. What kind of choices do people have to make in their everyday life? As I see it, people often have various choices for their own in daily lives, However, there are many choices that people must do the same such as what to eat, what to wear, where to go etc. These choices are necessary elements to live and survive. Therefore, do not think these choices are boring but we had better make them possitively for a better life. Why do some people choose to do the same things everyday? Are there any disadvantages in this? I think some people choose to do the same things everyday because they do not feel confident enough in themselves to face the new challenges of changes. They just want to remain what they are possesing and do not want to have more progress. There are some disadvantages in this. Firstly, the more progressive society is, the more modern people need to change. If they do not change, they will not keep up with the development of society. Secondly, the change is inevitable in current life. It can be stimulating and energizing for individuals when facing with new challenges. Do you think that people today have more choices to make today than in the past? I concur with that statement. Society now is more developing and competitive than that in the past. For example, work, accommodations, food, garments are clear evidences. If people do not have more choices to make, they will not achieve what they want. Hence, people had better give more alternatives to get the best for both mentally and physically life. IELTS 6 - SPEAKING TEST 4

Note: Idioms IELTS words --------------------------------------------------------PART 1. Do you prefer to have one particular friend or a group of friends? [Why?] I prefer to have one particular friend. As people usually say "Many men, many minds", I think a group of friends sometimes makes us complicated in deciding something. That's why I'd like to have only a particular friend. What do you like doing most with your friend/s? There are many things I like doing with my friends such as chatting, shopping or taking photos together etc, but the thing I like most is a stroll on streets in the evenings. We can see people and outdoor activities galore. It's a good way to relax and do exercise simultaneously. Do you think it's important to keep in contact with friends you knew as a child? [Why / Why not?] In my opnion, it's significant to keep in contact with our childhood's friends. As you all know, friendship in childhood always cleaves to purity and impartiality. Therefore, by keeping in contact, we'll have chances of reviewing childish memories that we will never find out when we're mature. What makes a friend into a good friend? It appears that honesty plays the most important factor which makes a friend into a good friend. None of us wants to be cheated by the others. Friendship can never be permanent if we are not honest to our friend. Besides, generosity is seen as part of being a good friend. We always know that every man has his fault, so forgiving others' blunders is a way a good friend does. PART 3 Important choices What are the typical choices people make at different stages of their lives? It's bound to say that there are three different stages of life. When we are children, our choices are mainly about eating and playing, which looks very simple. Till we are grown up, we have to face up with many alternatives exceedingly complicated and important. Choices will affect the rest of our lives as they are about schools, vocations and marriages etc. This is the decisive stage of our lives, which requires us to be judicious and astute enough to make right

- 47 -

decisions. The final stage is when we are old. We spend most of the time choosing entertainment and enjoying life with family in peace and comfort. Should important choices be made by parents rather than by young adult? In my opnion, important choices should be made by young adults. As we all know, each one has his own life, and making choices is a way we're making our lives. The alternatives may be right or wrong, but that is what we'd chosen ourselves. Moreover, parents and young adults are two different generations, which can make thoughts and decisions between them inappropriate for each other. Why do some people like to discuss choices with other people? As I see it, some people like to discuss choices with other people for two reasons. The first one is for people who don't have their own viewpoints. They are pliable by others' thoughts. The disadvantages for them is that seldom do they keep their end up. The second reason is for ones who have an inquiring mind. They scrutinize from many sides before giving the final decision for their choices. This is an astute way to avoid blunders. Choices in everyday life What kind of choices do people have to make in their everyday life? As the variety of life, people are offered a wide range of choices in their daily lives. We make choices in food, beverage, entertainment etc. Choices make our lives more interesting and less boring. Simultaneously, making choices is a way we create a better life and discover new things for ourselves. Why do some people choose to do the same things every day? Are there any disadvantages in this? People choose to do the same things year in, year out because they want to have a peaceful life. They think challenges and changes are inappropriate for them. They are content with the present and hesitant with difficulties when they do something new. There are some disadvantages in this. Firstly, they don't have chances of discovering new things outside their boring lives. Secondly, they will lose useful skills in solving troubles. As a result, day by day, it will be hard for them to dance to another tune if they want to do. Do you think that people today have more choices to make today than in the past? I will definitely concur with that opnion. As the development of society, the outlooks for our jobs, food, entertainments and many things in daily life are more various and complicated than in the past. The more alternatives we have, the better we can upgrade our lives by scrutinizing and making our best choices.

SPEAKING TEST 4-IELTS 6: Part 1: Your friends Do you prefer to have one particular friend or a group of friends? why? Now, I have not only one particular friend, but also a group of friends. To me, what kind of friend is not important. There is a saying, a friend in need is a friend indeed. Therefore, friends are always beside me to help me extricate from bad things and encourage me to do best things. That is the most important criterion. A particular friend or a group of friends is appropriatefor me as long as they understand me. So, I like having both. What do you like doing most with your friends? There are things galore which I would like to do with my friends. The most frequent activity is that we often congregate at one place and subsequently we go karaoke to sing together. I like this activity because I can sing well. Moreover, we also convene at our birthday parties. At these parties, we eat many dishes and we can paint the town red. In conclusion, after all parties, I feel very happy and comfortable. Do you think its important to keep in contact with friends you knew as a child? In my view, it is important to keep in contact with friends I knew as a child. Firstly, if we keep in contact with our old friends, we can expand our relationships. Secondly, we can also congregate our old friends to chat or pay a visit to old teachers. Lastly, if we have many friends, we will have more and more fun. What makes a friend into a good friend? To become a friend is easy, but to be a good friend is very difficult. To me, a good friend always encourages me to do the best. She never makes cracks about me with other people. Beside that her characters should be appropriate for mine. In addition, she will be a friend whom I can tell all things. These reasons will make a friend into a good friend. Part 2: describe an important choice you had to make in your life Talking about an important choice, until now, I just made only one important choice. It happened two years ago. At that time, I had to attend in a university entrance exam. For the time being, I was thinking about two universities simultaneously which are flagships in Vietnam. They are banking university and university of economics. Banking university has a good aspect because it is a stones throw away from my house. However, its score in the previous entrance exam was 22, which was a high score. I felt that I was not confident to sit for the exam of this university. For the time being, my mother told to me that she wanted me to pass the exam in the first test. Therefore, after reflection, I decided to enroll in university of economic.

As you know, entrance exams are very difficult for students and I am not an exception. Beside that university of economic had over 22000 students enrolling in it. This means that my chance of getting into that university was in jeopardy. I had to study hard. I had been burning the candles at both ends for a long time. Finally, the day I knew my score came. I can not describe my feeling. Who used to sit for an entrance exam can understand my feeling. I was very happy then. Time flies. It has been two years. Now, I can say with you that I have made a judicious choice. Until now, I have never regretted about my choice. Although economic university is far from my house, I feel comfortable and study well. What I want to advice you is that when you choose a university or a job, you should base on your ability and take time for reflection before making decision. Part 3: Important choices What are the typical choices people make at different stages of their lives? At one stage of life, we have different choices galore. When I was a child, I just chose simple choices. For example, which dress I would wear, what food I might eat or what games I can play with my friends, etc. Now, I have many complicated things to make besides simple ones. For instance, I had to choose which university to enroll in. This affects my future. When we are old, we will face with more important choices. These choices can affect our family such as our future job, husband or wife, etc. Should important choices be made by parents rather than by young adults? In my view, important choices should be made by parents because of many reasons. First of all, parents who have had many experiences in their lives and they live longer than us can help us make good choices. Second, young adults do not have reflections in their problems. Their choices can be affected by the trend or other people easily. After a short time, they will change their choices. This will lead to jeopardy. Lastly, parents who understand their children clearly will help them make judicious choices which are appropriate for their children. Why do some people like to discuss choices with other people? To me, I also discuss my choices with my parents and friends. Maybe that other people used to make these choices like me and they have experiences to advice me. They will give their opinions about my problem and these opinions can be necessary for me. However, after all opinions and advices, I have to base on my favorites and abilities as well as reflection before

making decision. Therefore, discussing with other people does not affect my decision very much. Choices in everyday life What kind of choices do people have to make in their everyday life? In our everyday life, we have two kinds of choices. The first is simple choices which happen as a habit such as food, drink, clothes, etc. The second is complicated and temporary choices. For instance, how to solve this problem or that problem, which transportations you will use, example bus or motorbike, how to say sorry with your friends, etc. Why do some people choose to do the same things every day? Are there any disadvantages in this? People choose to do the same things every day because they do not want to be at risk if they choose other things. I think that this will create some disadvantages. May be other things will be better than the old things. When we choose others, we can change our lives and make our lives more enjoyable and new. Do you think that people today have more choices to make today than in the past? People today have more choices to make than in the past. Because of high technology, we have more brands to choose, more kinds of food, transportations, schools, etc. For example, in the past my grandparents just ate rice. Now, besides rice, we also have bread, spaghetti, instant noodle, etc. SPEAKING PART 1 PAGE 31: IELTS 5 1. Which part of your country do most people live in? Children have more opportunity to obtain knowledge. Civilians take advantage of being looked after better than in the past. Famous people in your country What kind of people become famous people these days? In my opinion, there are two kinds of people who become famous people these days. First of all, people are famous because of their real talents. They are scientists, inventors, singers, actors, rich and successful people. The second kind of famous people is people who are known by their scandals. They do anything to be famous. They do not concern about things they do right or not. Is this different from the kind of achievement that made people famous in the past? In what way? To be a famous person, I think there are ways galore and nowadays, these ways are usually different from those in the past. As you see, many years ago, a famous person was usually a hero, a heroin, a king and so on but now, you do not have to fight the aggressors or rule a country to become famous. To be famous, I think people nowadays can choose many ways such as inventing new things, or showing their talents by becoming singers or actors and so on. How do you think people will become famous in the future? I think that people will become famous or not depends on the way that people want to be famous or not. Some people do not want to be famous; they just want to be a civilian and live a normal life. On the other hand, many people want to achieve fame. They want everyone to know them, so they will try to do things by hook or by crook to become famous. Being in the public eye What are the good things about being famous? Are there any disadvantages? Of course, every thing has two aspects. Being famous can help you have the adherence, everyone will know and praise you and your name can appear on many newspapers. a selfish person, you have no time for your family, and especially you do not know friends around you are good friends or they just take advantage of you. You may be under fire. How does the media in your country treat famous people? Like everywhere else, I think the media in my country also do things that the media in any country do to treat famous people. When you are famous, they will praise you on their newspaper and they want to know every thing about you. Even they can follow you every time, every where. Why do you think ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people? I think there are many reasons to explain why ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people. The first reason is they are not famous, so they want to know about lives of the famous people. The second reason is they concern about if famous people commit crimes or harm others lives. Tell me about the main industry in there? There are many industries in the Red River Delta such as thermo-electric, metallurgical, mechanical and chemical industry. However among them, the metallurgical industry is the main industry with a lot of factories that appear in most provinces. Talk about building materials industry, in the Red River Delta, there are many kinds of land such as alluvial soil, Feralit soil, etc which are the sources galore to serve the building materials industry. And finally, let us take a look at the chemical industry, we can see that it has been in the Red River Delta for a long time and nowadays it is strongly developing in various ways. Nam. I think that is something which you should have done. In reality, you will be amazed just how easy it is to get around by bus, train, private vehicles with a driver and domestic flights. All means of transportation are easily accessible, efficient and extremely good value. In the terms of finance, it is really simple for you to exchange any foreign currency into VND and you can do that anywhere. The transportation and accommodation options are available and appropriate to all budgets. 4. Has your country changed much since you were a child? In comparison with Viet Nam when I was a child, Viet Nam now is a different kettle of fish. When I was little, Viet Nam is just a newly independent country; there were many troubles in the early stage of the process of innovation. The economy was slowly developing; the government was still launching the close-door policy in economy. Nowadays, we are in the modern age. We took the whole country into the stage of integration with the world economy. Viet Nam extricated from the top of the poor countries and wrote the name into the list of the developing countries. The country is named as one of the Asian Tigers with the annual growth rate around 8% per year. PART 2: Describe a well-known person you like or admire. Well, I am going to talk about my mathematical idol who has been recently honored at the International Congress of Mathematicians 2010 held in India. The person that I am mentioning is Professor Ngo Bao Chau. He was born in 1972 in the capital city of Ha Noi in a studious family. He had showed a special aptitude for mathematics right from the time he was high school student at the Gifted High School of Ha Noi National University of Natural Sciences. After graduating from high school, he constantly improved his talent with the help of many math professors in Viet Nam as well as all around the world. The result of that occurred on August 19, 2010 with the fact that he won the Fields Metal for his work of proving the basic result called the fundamental lemma in the Langland program that was thought as an ambitious and revolutionary theory a long time ago. He gained the greatest prize that many countries desire and he is the first Vietnamese to earn the honor prize. It is really easy to say that he is a credit to Viet Nam. For that reason, he earned the respect and admiration of me as well as everyone living in Viet Nam. PART 3: Famous people in your country 1. What kind of people become famous people these days? Personally, I think nowadays every kind of people can all become famous even they are farmers or normal workers in factories. However, in my point of view, people who work as a

singer would be the easiest ones to become celebrities because they serve a wide cycle of audience on a regular basis with their emotive voice as well as their good-looking appearance. Thus, it will be easy for them to earn the respect and admiration of everyone. 2. Is this different from the kind of achievement that made people famous in the past? In what way? As far as I am concerned, the kind of accomplishment that made people well-known in the past is different from the one these days. You know, people in the modern age are much more intelligent than the ones in the past. Therefore, if the modern age people want to become celebrities they have to accomplish much more than what people did in the past. For instance, in the past, Isaac Newton became famous for his three laws of motion; but nowadays most people all know and apply the three laws of motion but they do not become renowned at all. 3. How do you think people will become famous in the future? In my opinion, whether or not people can become well-known in the future is all dependent upon themselves. If they want to be famous in the future, right now they have to do something that is useful to build and improve their skills. As they are proficient at their skills, it will be really easy for them to become celebrities. Being in the public eye 1. What are the good things about being famous? Are there any disadvantages? To my knowledge, there are many advantages for being celebrities. The first thing will be money. When people become well-known, they tend to be much richer than before because they have a wide effect on public that leads to the publics support for what they do. The second is that being famous people would have a great opportunity to make advance in career and do charity. On the other hand, being famous also has a bad thing. Celebrities have to be careful when being interviewed; they have to live an unpleasant life because something that they show the public can cause the trouble for their promotion in the future. 2. How do the media in your country treat famous people? You know, the media is a double edged sword. On one hand, thanks to the media, people can become well known throughout the country even cross the world. However, media is also a major factor that causes celebrities to forfeit their fans for something such as a sober error in a performance. 3. Why do you think ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people? In my point of view, most civilians often have an interest in the celebrities lives because they want to know what celebrities lifestyle is, how they are living they start considering that whether these things are useful for being famous people. Yet, sometimes, people are
- 55 -

interested in the lives of celebrities with the evil eye. They want to find something wrong in the celebrities lives and inform the media in order to topple celebrities. Because we reap as we sow, now we have to suffer many strange and complicated problems. SPEAKING - IELTS 5- TEST 1 22000 words idioms PART 3: What kind of people become famous people these days? Simultaneously, you have to work with a busy schedule from morning to night, even until midnight. This probably will affect your health. How does the media in your country treat famous people? In my country, journalists are the ones who are the first to have information about famous people. They always appear at the right time when famous people are in trouble or in the vital events. If the famous people are successful in their fields or they do right things, journalists will right good articles for them. In contrast, they are ready to criticize when famous people have scandals. Why do you think ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people? Personally, I think ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people because they are curious. You know what, color is all around us. We can see it all the time and most of us have no idea the impact color has on our lives. - 65 -

Do you like the same colors now as you did when you were younger? [Why? Why

IELTS words PART 1 What's your favorite color? [Why?] My favorite colors are black and white. I like them because they are easy to combine with others when I wear clothes. Another reason is that they always have straightforward manifestation in everything like the idiom "in black and white". Do you like the same colors now as you did when you were younger? [Why/Why not?] My favorite colors have changed from time to time. When I was young, I love pink because it is bright and youthful. However, when I grew up, I felt that pink is just appropriate for children and I realized that I preferred black and white to pink as I look more stately when I wear clothes in those colors. What can learn about a person from the colors they like? In my view, there are many things we can learn about a person from the colors they like. Each color has a meaning about person's character, their outlook in a matter or even a culture of a nation. For instance, in Middle Ages, they believed that yellow was the color of sham, like we say "a yellow dog" nowadays. On the other hand, it is also the color of wealth and prosperousness. Do any colors have a special meaning in your culture? Yes, we have some colors that cleave to some special meanings. Let's say red. It symbolizes our national flag and blood. Many of our heroic civilians had shed their blood for the independence of nation. Another color is green. It is the color of plants and simultaneously, the camouflage battledress of our country during the war. These are decisive colors from our war time until now. They bring us hope and luck to defeat strong enemies. PART 2 Describe a song or a piece of music you like. I love listening to music and I have many favorite songs. One of the songs I frequently listen to is a French song named Bonjour Vietnam. It is sung by Pham Quynh Anh, a Vietnamese Belgian girl, who has a beautiful and pianissimo voice. I knew this song through a newspaper. It has been a phenomenon for a long time in both Vietnam and overseas. Many people, especially the overseas Vietnamese, got a lump in their throat, even burst into tears and commended profusely when they heard the song. Obviously, I'm not an exception, every word in this song impressed on my memory with a strange feeling. The word Vietnam, which is resounded in the end of the song, has brought to every listener a holy feeling. All familiar images of Vietnam were mentioned in the song with a tenderly love through her voice. The

composer got the sources of inspiration from Quynh Anh herself. He saw an image of Vietnamese women with a graceful act in her and they have evoked him some heart-breaking memories of the war in Vietnam. Temples, statues of Buddha, paddy fields and roads, houses are very familiar to us but she has never seen. That's why the song has that name like this. She wants to say hello to her motherland, to every simple things in that. The song is all overseas Vietnamese's sentiments that were not born in Vietnam but are always tenterhooks to come back to their native country. It has contributed to bring pictures of Vietnam to all over the world. SPEAKING TEST 1, IELTS 5 PART 1: Which part of your country do most people live in? Tell me the main industries there. How does the media in your country treat famous people? Why do you think ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people? PART 1:
- 67 -

Which part of your country do most people live in? In my country, there is an unbalance in the density of citizens. Most people in my country live in urban areas, especially in the two biggest cities which are Hanoi and HCMC. It is a normal phenomenon in every country. Big cities attract people to live in due to their quality of accommodation, the chances of vocations, etc. Tell me the main industries there. In the two prominent cities, the main industries are Economy, Finance and Service. Therefore, it is easy for you to find many edifices, industrial zones, banks, financial companies and services galore. These industrial not only bring the cities the faces of modernization and means but also help their civilians upgrade their standards of living. How easy is it to travel around your country? Yes, it is quite easy and convenient for you to travel around my country. It has a net of transportations. If you want to travel around the cities, you can take buses which are systematic or pedicabs which are more special and suitable to dawdle. If you want to travel through longer distance, you can take coaches, trains or planes which are both improved considerably. Has your country changed much since you were a child? Yes, I concur with that statement. My country has hanged a lot from the time I was a child. The first which is also the noticeable change is its economy. About fifteen years ago, Vietnamese people had to reconstruct their countrys economy from the state of being uprooted by wars, indigence and wrong plans of the government. However, lets look at what we have achieved nowadays. Year in year out, we have made the economy more and more developed and modern. Secondly, the quality of living has been improved more than in the past. Many people have escaped from poverty. Besides, we live in better conditions than in the past. PART 2: The famous person whom I like is a special singer. His name is Ha Anh Tuan. In my opinion, nowadays, there are lots of singers who sing kinds of music galore. Therefore, it is easy for you to have a person to admire and so do I. I remember exactly the first time I listened to him. At that time, he was a competitor in a contest named Sao mai im hn. At that time, the person I wanted to watch was Hoang Hai because I had read an article saying that Hoang Hai was the prominent candidate. However, inadvertently, I could not watch Hoang Hais performance but Ha Anh Tuans performance. I really was attracted by the way he sang. He went to town in every melody. I could say that his performance was out of the world. I have
- 68 -

many reasons why I admire him. Firstly, he has an outstanding way of singing which distinguishes him with others. It is very natural and simple but precise. Secondly, he is a kind of person who dares to think, dares to do and dares to accept, which influences me most. He had temporarily abdicated his studying in Germany to come back to Vietnam to fulfill his passion of singing. Next, I suppose he is an intelligent singer in the ways of communicating and fashion. And last but not least, what I want to say is that it is very absorbing to have a person to admire. PART 3: What kind of people become famous people these days? In my opinion, nowadays, people have more chances to become famous. Firstly, the people who become well-known are talents in special fields such as singing, acting, the level of knowledge and Information Technology. The second which is also a pity is that some become famous due to their scandals which they may deliberately or inadvertently make up. Is this different from the kind of achievement that made people famous in the past? In what way? Yes, it is. As far as I am concerned, there are more kinds of achievement that made people famous now than in the past. Firstly, in the past, people were mostly well-known for their outstanding success in studying or their glorious feat of arms. Comparing to now, people have more ways to become famous. Secondly, in the past, if you want to become famous for your great ability in acting, singing, dancing, etc, you must be the best in your country or your regions. Today, you do not need to be the best to become famous, which makes people famous easily. How do you think people will become famous in the future? I believe that the ways making people famous in the future will certainly differ from now. Firstly, as the technological age advances, people will probably become celebrities for their achievement of brand-new technological inventions. Secondly, it is likely that Internet and Social Network will play a vitally important role in discovering talents and upgrading peoples famousness. What are the good things about being famous? Are there any disadvantages? In my opinion, everything always has advantages and drawbacks. Lets talk about the advantages. The first is that you can earn much money, which helps you become affluent and do almost things which need to be done. Secondly, If you are a celebrity, you will be admired and loved by a multitude of fans. Lastly, your luck can rub off on your family. Now, lets turn to the disadvantages. The first which is also most easily perceived is your private lives. You
- 69 -

must be careful in every move if you do not want to have scandals which are the main topics for newspapers. Secondly, many mean people try to make your acquaintance because of wanting to take advantage of your fame. How does the media in your country treat famous people? Luckily, the media in my country are not as hostile and strict as those in other Western countries. They treat well-known people in the gentle environment, which helps them have more chances to upgrade their talents and fame. However, they are ready to criticize them if possible. Why do you think ordinary people are interested in the lives of famous people? I have many reason for this fact. Firstly, the reason is that ordinary people are curious about their idols and want to know what famous people is like in genuine lives. Secondly, many people who have sinister ideas are interested in the private lives of the famous people to find their mistakes so that they can uproot their fame. SPEAKING IELTS 5 TEST 2 PART 2:

Describe a song or a piece of music you like

Love is always an issue forever and there are so many good songs about love, but the song "No promise" which is performed by Shayne Ward is my favorite song. My crony has introduced me to listen to this song. This is a great ballad about meaning of love. Right from the first time listening to it, I was attracted by gentle tunes, pleasant but deep with burning desire for love. When watching the video clip, I got a lump in my throat. This song is about a young man who died when the love is unfinished. His soul is still attached, come back in the night to watch his lover and to say the last words before dawn. The lyrics are repeated many times to expect his lover to hear him. I have heard this song many times but still have not felt bored because of its simple tunes and because Shayne's performance was out of the world. It makes me recognize that love survives even when we are no longer in this world anymore. and why you admire him or her. I'm going to talk about my father because he has been a major influence in my life. My father was always a good role model for me as I was growing up. He's hardworking, patient and understanding; he's also got a good sense of humour and seems to get on well with everybody. Hopefully I've inherited some of these traits.

Here are some ideas. I've underlined the best vocabulary.

I admire my father because I think he brought me and my brothers/sisters up well; he was quite strict but always fair, and he has always been someone I can turn to for advice. I think my father set a good example by working hard and having a positive outlook on life. I remember that he used to leave for work early and come home quite late, but he always made time for me and my brothers/sisters.

IELTS Speaking Part 2: describe a festival A common topic for the short presentation (IELTS Speaking Part 2) is "describe an important festival in your country". My advice is to look for a description of your festival on Wikipedia. Copy the best parts of the description and make small changes if necessary. As an example, I've copied a short description of Christmas from Wikipedia. Describe a festival: Christmas Christmas is an annual holiday that, in Christianity, commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ. Popular customs of the holiday include gift-giving, music, an exchange of greeting cards, church celebrations, a special meal, and the display of various decorations; including Christmas trees, lights, nativity scenes, and holly. In addition, Father Christmas (known as Santa Claus in some areas) is a popular figure in many countries, associated with the bringing of gifts for children. Over the Christmas period, people decorate their homes and exchange gifts. In some countries, children perform plays re-telling the events of the Nativity, or sing carols that reference the event. Christmas, along with Easter, is the period of highest annual church attendance. A special Christmas family meal is an important part of the celebration for many, and what is served varies greatly from country to country. In England and countries influenced by its traditions, a standard Christmas meal includes turkey, potatoes, vegetables, sausages and gravy, followed by Christmas pudding, mince pies and fruit cake. IELTS Speaking Part 3: common question types Here are 3 common question types that the examiner could ask you:
- 71 -

1. Compare and contrast. 2. Give an opinion. 3. Imagine. If the topic is 'cities', the examiner could ask: 1. How is life different in cities compared to rural areas? 2. How do you think life in big cities could be made easier? 3. What do you think cities will be like in 50 years time? Here are some answers using ideas from this week's lessons: 1. Firstly, the cost of living in cities is much higher. Housing is much more expensive in cities compared to rural areas; everything costs more. I think life in cities is more difficult. There are more people, so there's more competition for jobs. Life is a lot slower in rural areas, everyone knows each other and there's a sense of community. I don't think rural areas experience the social problems that you find in cities, like crime and homelessness. 2. In my opinion cities need to be well-planned. Good public transport can definitely make life easier because there are so many people and it can be really stressful just to move around. Public areas like parks are also important because people need space to relax, and I think cities should be made into healthier places to live and work. 3. I imagine cities will be less polluted because we'll have electric cars and better public transport. More people might work from home so maybe cities won't be so busy. But I think there will probably still be problems because more and more people are migrating to cities. So I'm not so optimistic about issues like crime, homelessness and unemployment. SPEAKING TEST2-IELTS 5 Part 1: Colour What is your favourite colour? why? There are seven basic colours and my favourite colour is yellow. I have yellow things galore. I used to heard that yellow is the colour of wisdom and stamina. I would like to be a strong person. Besides that, in my eyes, wearing yellow clothes make me feel conspicuous and confident. Do you like the same colours now as you did when you were younger?

- 72 -

No, when I was a child, I liked the pink because the princesses in cartoons often wore pink dresses. That was just a childish thinking. Now, I have a weakness for yellow, but I am not sure that is my permanent favourite colour. What can you learn about a person from the colours they like? In my view, every colour you like has its exclusive meaning which can say something about your character. For example, black expresses the mystery or if you like pink, you can be a very romantic person. Do any colours have a special meaning in your culture? In my culture, there are some colours that have special meanings. The most popular colours are black, white, red and yellow. For example, as you see, at Tet, we often decorate our houses with the red things and yellow ones such as watermelon, lucky money, etc which will bring us a fortunate year. SPEAKING (IELTS 5, Page 54, Part2) PART 2: Describe a song or a piece of music you like. Well today I am going to talk about the piece of music that I like the most. In Viet Nam, Teachers day is a red-letter day. It is the day when people show their great gratitude to their teachers, and that is the day when the teachers acknowledgement is honored. The gratitude is shown not only by means of action but also by the sound of music. There are many songs that praise the teacher to the skies for their career of growing human. However, once at a coffee shop, all of a sudden I listened to a song, which was written by Nguyen Nhat Huy musician, named Nguoi Thay. The song belonging to the lyrical music with the earnest lyrics and tone made me evoke the ancient memories of mine which are the things that I never forget in my life. The song made me miss my old teachers who are strict, gentle or who passed away. The teacher in the song is really generous; he overcame the lions share of hardship and always devoted to his students. The song with the soft and smooth tone helped me relax and took my mind a way from other cares of the day; it reminded me about the responsibility of a real student. These reasons just about wrapped up for my interest in listening to the song. IETLS 5-PART1-P.54 1. Whats your favourite colour? Why? The colour I like best is white. And they have still attracted me until now. It is said that a person who likes white often has a profound internal life. Maybe it is true for my circumstance. 3. What can you learn about a person from the colours they like? Since colours often represent something, I think that I can guess and learn about a persons hobbies and character to some extent by knowing the colours they like. Furthermore, it is also the colour of leaders and the people who take the lead in imaginative fields. 4. Do any colours have a special meaning in your culture? Yes, they do. In cotrast, black has led people tthink about bad things and funerals Part II: describe a song or a piece of music you like "Don't cry Joni" is one of my favorite songs. It was sung by Conway Twitty and Joni Lee. Seven years ago, I heard it first when I was in TOEFL class, this was our listening exercise. The song tells us about a story between two neighbors, Jimmy and Joni. When Jonni was a little girl, she was in love with Jimmy. Unfortunately, Jimmy wanted to be a man with a success career first and for that reason, he denied her love. However, after five years living away from his hometown, Jimmy realized that Joni is his life's true love but it was too late. Joni has got married with Jimmy best friend. The sad ending of the story reminds me that there are two important things in every person's life which are love and career. If you focus too much on one thing, you might lose the other. Overall, Ilove it because of this smooth rhythm and meaningful lyric PART 2: Describe a song or a piece of music you like The song I like best is o trng ngi sng tng lai. There are some reasons for this. Firstly, the lyric is simple but meaningful, which tells about the children who wish to go to school with white shirt but they cant because of their miserable lives. Secondly, its melody is soft so I can listen to this song in order to relax and subsequently I feel comfortable. Lastly, this song has a strong attachment to memories of my class A1with my friends. In addition, it is the first time I have listened to this song. This is also the first time I have listened to his singing voice, which is greatly excellent. In grade 10, my class performed this song in 20/11 competition. Although we didnt win a prize, it was the best in our view. Now whenever I hear this song, it makes me remember my friends, my school and our nice memories. I love this song not only because of my avocation but it is also a memory. The person who is sad wants to listen to melodious music which can touch their feelings. Besides, the people who are extremely happy choose animated music to listen to. - 77 -

In my opinion, technology has an essential part in making the kinds of music popular with young people. As the technological age advances, technology can make the versions of a song better than the original. Therefore, the kinds of music use technological effects are better and popular than ones not using technology. The second influence is that Internet and Social network affect considerably the kinds of music popular. The musical products which have enormous advertising campaign on the Internet or Social network will be welcomed and enjoyed by many young people. Tell me about any traditional music in your culture. One of the eminent music in my culture is Ci lng, which originated from Southern Vietnam. A Ci lng performance has many similar features to a drama. However, actors or actresses sing in Ci lng performances instead of speaking in dramas. They sing in a very eminent way which is different from the ways of singing of singers. A performance cannot lack the appearance of many instruments such as 16-chord zither and Vietnamese two-chord fiddle. I suppose you will certainly be attracted by Ci lng performances. Second, I go out almost all day which is reason why I want to spend my evening being at home with my family. Lastly, there are some dangers in going out in the evening. Therefore, seldom do I go out in the evening. When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do? My vocations are noshing, going to caf, shopping and chatting with my friends. And I like to have a huge bash at night with my friends, which is the opportunity for us to gather together so as to share things with each other. I also enjoy going out for dinner with my family in the restaurant. How popular is this with other people in your country? In my country, I realize that almost young adults enjoy going out in the evening more than children and late adulthood. Especially, on the holiday, the streets are full of people. Most young people enjoy going out in the evening more than in the morning because they think it is interesting. Is there any kind of entertainment you do not like? I abhor to go to bar because it is very noisy, which makes me have a headache and more stress. There are also bad things and misdeeds there. In my view, a bar is complicated place so it is not appropriate for me in order to relax. IELTS 5_ TEST 3 PART 1: Do you prefer relaxing at home or going out in the evening?

Going out in the evening is not my choice because it is too noisy, crowded and dangerous. When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do? When going out for an evening, I like to go with my chums and coffee shop is a place which we usually go to. We drink delicious beverage and chat together. Many people think that it is a way to ralax but I do not think so. These games can affect to players' behaviors. In games, the characters have to fight against the others to survive so players are driven with characters in their battles. It makes players become more aggressive. IELTS 5 - SPEAKING TEST 3: page 77 Part 1: Do you prefer relaxing at home or going out in the evening? (Why?) After a long working day, I prefer relaxing at home to recover energy and mental power for the next working day. I suppose that human operating structure is the most complicated machine, therefore, we should let ourselves rest from a long strenuous day. However, I prefer going out to enjoy our living in the weekend. Weekend is the time for everyone to hang out with their friends and to take care of themselves. When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do? For a going out evening, I usually start with a lavish dinner with my friends. Then, we will find some nice place to have a talk, such as a beautiful coffee bar with live music, or, we will see a movie in the cinema. After that, if we have inspiration, maybe we will find a bar or a club to dance. My favourite place is Acoustic Bar or The Factory Bar with live rock concert. We can mix with the music and sing out loud there (or you can call it yell&rdquo . All stress and sadness will be flown away!

With most young people in HCM city, this is very popular and it seems that other young people are doing the same as we do. The places we go to are always crowded with young people. In some famous places, we have to stand all the time because there is no vacant seat. Is there any entertainment you do not like? (Why? /Why not?) I think it is online games. I admit that I am never good at games, but it is not the reason. I dont like online games because of its evils. The original idea of online game is a kind of entertainment to waste your free time, to relax. It is becoming a global culture phenomenon. However, there are more and more people, especially the youth, are addicted to online games. Time for studying or working is appropriated by online games. It also affects health and awareness of young people. It is also the cause of violence, housebreaking, robbery and so on. Speaking test 3, part 1- sch IELTS 5 1. and pleasure after a hard working day. At the weekend, I also like going out to with my friends, but that is not as relaxing as a cozy evening in. I guess I am considered a homebody. When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do? Firstly, I like go to downtown and stroll to watch people on the streets. Secondly, I hang out to dinner only because I cook all week long and occasionally, I like to have someone else serve me. Sometimes to stir things up a bit, try some dessert or ice cream I have never tried before. Lastly, I just go out for a fine movie but it is not what I do every weekend. How popular is this with other people in your country? In my opinion, it is rather similar to teenagers and young adults in my country. The youth like going out to have activities galore with their friends or clubs after a stressful working week. On other hand, in late adulthood, they prefer to stay at home to take care of their houses as well as make use of their rare free time to enjoy with their family. Is there any kind of entertainment you do not like? Why? Why not? No. To me, entertainment consists of many activities that permit me to amuse myself. I like most kinds of entertainment such as movie, music, sports, or games that are considered my hobbies in my leisure time. They provide a lot of fun, enjoyment and laughter that are a good way to enrich my mental life and supply me many innovative ideas in my work. TEST 3 / IELTS 5 PART 2 Describe one of your friends Be strong! Everything will be alright. That is what my best friend, Bee, says to me whenever I get in troubles. Bee is her nickname and our friends always call her by that name. She has been my crony and my neighbor for over ten years. To me, she is a really special person. It seems that she is always full of energy and does everything with enthusiasm. She shows me a lot of useful truths such as: never let the chance slip by or no pain, no gain, etc. However, she is not the kind of person that is full of hot air because she knows that easier said than done. Therefore, she always forces herself to have motivations to reach her aims when she does anything. She is a jack of all trades and she likes to learn new things. I used to be reserved when I had to meet new people but my chum, a communicative person, taught me how to say it with flowers and how to communicate with cordiality. Sometimes, she gets on my case and that gets on my nerves but finally we always make up with each other because after all, we are best friends. We share everything to each other and that helps us to get closer. Now, whenever I get in troubles, I always tell myself that Be strong!
- 83 -

Everything will be alright because I know that no matter what happens, my Bee always flies by my side. IELTS 5 - TEST 3 SPEAKING PART 1 - Do you prefer relaxing at home or going out in evening? When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do? Given the choice between relaxing at home and going out in the evening, I would choose the later. Just because this makes me more comfortable. Whenever I feel stressful or exhausted, I often give up all my works and go out for a stroll. Walking on the peaceful streets and looking at some beautiful villas reminds me about my promise: One day, I will have a happy family and we will live in a beautiful villa. At that time, I will look out of the window and smile: I have already done it - How popular is this with other people in your country? In terms of this aspect, I am different from other people but not an eccentric. In the evening, some people relax by watching TV or surfing the internet, others go to the dense leisure center and others are inseparable with their lovers. Finally, just only myself wander and look at the villa. - Is there any kind of entertainment you do not like? Nowadays, young people are addicted to games online. This is a virtual world where they waste their time and money to prove In name rather than in fact. From my point of view, government should have some judicious actions to prevent this pernicious entertainment. It is crucial that we look at the facts if we want to make the best possible decisions for the future. It may be costly to be overly optimistic but more costly still to be too pessimistic. PART 2 (p.77) Describe one of friends. Each person has many friends, but maybe, he or she just has one best friend. So do I. A best friend is usually willing to help me whenever, whatever and wherever I need them My friend and I knew each other when we were kids. Her family was my neighbours. She was a nice girl with black eyes, which likely knew everything. She always made me laugh and I had a warm feeling when we walked side by side. We grew up together so we experienced many interesting things. We played together when we were young, studied together when we went to school. I usually told her my problems and she is always a person giving me a key to solve those problems. In the spare time, we often went shopping. We liked to see new clothes and tried them joyfully. Sometimes, she and I argued about something, but we were never sulky in a long time. Because we thought that each of us had right and wrong
- 84 -

things, we looked elsewhere for the solution. Now, she is living in another country but we usually keep in touch. I really like my friend. She brings me many pleasures and happiness. She always knows how to take care of someone. This is very lucky for me. I think that I never find out a person, who can become my closest friend like her. PART 3 (p.77) What do you think are the most important qualities for friends to have? In my opinion, the most important quality is honesty. If friends have an honest behavior, they can have the belief in others. This makes people feel secure when they have their friends near them. Which are more important to people, their family or their friends? Why? In my opinion, both family and friends are important. Family is the place where I can share my feeling, my own problems and members of family are always willing to help me. My friends are people who always help me when my family does not stay near me. What do you think causes friendships to break up? I think friendships will break up if they do not have a belief each other. Friends need to understand, share the weal and woe and sympathize with each other. Those make people feel more secure and create a firm friendship. If they do not do anything for their friends to make them believe, their friendship will break up. What other types of relationship, apart from friends or family, are important in peoples lives today? Apart from friends or family, the love in couple is important in peoples lives today. It makes people have many feeling at the same time. It may create magic things or bad things. When people are falling in love, it is likely that they have all things in the world. But sometimes, they have some problems, they feel very sad, terrible and their mind is empty. Although the ending of the love is happy or sad, it always makes this life more beautiful and meaningful. Have relationships with neighbours where you live changed in recent years? How? Yes, they have. In the past, the neighbours cared about one another. They knew clearly their neighbours, how they were, what happened with them. But now, there is no more care. People just care about their lives. They do not talk to their neighbours anymore. They go to work, come home and rarely think about others. How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? Why/ Why not? In my opinion, it is important for a person to spend some time alone. People can not spend all their time in being with other people. They need some time to think about

- 85 -

themselves. When they are alone, they can completely try doing anything and maybe, they are successful. PART 2 Describe one of your friends I had a very close girlfriend and we have played together for eight years. The first time we met each other was when we were in secondary school. After that, we also studied at the same high school. Because we were classmates for many years, we became intimate day by day. She has many good characteristics which make me like her very much. Firstly, she is great chum who has same hobbies, understands me and wiil be next to me rain or shine. She is always listening, sharing and giving me many useful comforting words when I have something sad. Secondly, she usually helps me when I get troubles. This make me realize that "A friend in need is a friend indeed" . Lastly, she is very generous. Sometimes, I make her sad but she is willing to forgive all my faults when I intend to reconcile. In free time, we like going out to eat and drink delicious food and beverage. At that time, we can share sorrow and happiness. I feel very lucky to have a good chum like her. Therefore, I will try to keep this beautiful friendship and make it last forever. IELTS - Speaking test 3, part 2 Describe one of your friends. You should say: How you met How long you have known each other How you spend time together And explain why you like this person. The friend that I would like to tell you is Luu, whom I feel fortunate to be friends with. We have known each other for over 10 years, since we were just children. Luu is a humorous and gentle man, which I like best and desire to learn. He likes people and he gets along well with people. Although we are friends, he has more experience of life than me. Therefore, whenever I have troubles, he always gives me useful hints as well as encouragements, which gave me faith in my life and made me dance to another tune. Besides, he likes to study idioms very much and me too. We used to spent time together discussing idioms, especially color idioms, such as, a white lie, see red, a red herring, be in the red, a red letter day, grey matter, once in a blue moon, and many other color idioms.
- 86 -

Now he has become a cloisterer. For that reason, I only meet him from time to time. However, I believe he has always been a good friend to me. IELTS - Speaking test 3, part 2 Describe one of your friends. You should say: How you met How long you have known each other How you spend time together And explain why you like this person. It wasnt too long but I learned many things from him. He has experience in banking finance, especially in customer relationship field. Therefore, he can teach me how to establish a long-term relationship with customers. And, its interesting for me to know some ways so that I can persuade and attract people to come to my bank. I like and admire him because he has not only good knowledge but also a sense of humor. I feel free to discuss with him about problems in my career. I count on him as one of my close friends. SPEAKING TEST 3, PART 3- SCH IELTS 5 Qualities of friends: 1. What do you think are the most important qualities for friends to have? Personally speaking, there are two most crucial factors which friends should have: they are honesty and a sense of humor. Those who are sincere would build up a strong belief in other people. As a result, they could motivate long-term relationships. Besides, humorous friends could help us get over difficult times and find better solutions for our problems. 2. Which are more important to people, their family or their friends? Why? It is hard to consider the role of the family and the friends. They have different parts in our lives. Family is the firm foundation for any persons growing from being a child to being an adult. And, friends are supplementary elements which are not less essential to enable us to achieve promotion and develop characteristics. 3. What do you think causes friendships to break up?

- 87 -

There may be some reasons breaking friendship. And, betrayal could be the cause which ruins friendships easily. Without the fact that friends do believe in one another, they could not have had a strong relationship. Other relationships: 4. What other types of relationship apart from friends or family, are important in peoples lives today? I think neighbors also whether our lives are good or not. People would not enjoy their lives if there were unkind neighbors around them. 5. Have relationships with neighbors where you live changed in recent years? How? The relationship among residents who live in the same area has changed recently. They have tendency to be separate with other people. Neighborship is not warm and tight as it was in around 10 years ago. 6. How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? Why/Why not? Being lonely in a certain time is good for everybody to think about the last period we spent and intentions we do in the future. It helps us to have a look at the past in order to see lessons which may be important experience in our lives. IELTS 5 - SPEAKING TEST 3: page 77 Part 3: - What do you think are the most important qualities for friend to have? I think that a good friend is the one who has the honesty and the sympathy. These two qualities are very important to maintain a long-lasting friendship. Honesty will gain the belief and sympathy will erase all distances among friends. - Which are more important to people, their family or their friends? Why? In my opinion, both family and friends are taking main roles and have the same importance in human life. Without a family, you wouldnt have been born, fed, cared and taught. You couldnt enjoy the love of parents, the warmness of a home. Without friends, you would be the loneliest one in the world. You have no one to share all your feelings, to let you cry on their shoulder when you are down and to duplicate your happiness. What do you think cause friendships to break up? It seems to me that the selfishness could kill a friendship. People have many differences in their ways of life and in their thought. When they become friends, their egos should be controlled well in order to gain the concord. This is the rule for a good friendship! When
- 88 -

someone breaks this rule, when all she thinks is self and self, that friendship is on the verge of ruin. - What other types of relationship, apart from friends or family, are important in peoples lives today? It is said that Love is the most special kind of relationship that human being cant live without. Love is beautiful and passionate. Love does not distinguish between ages, religions, skin colours, wealth and poverty, and even genders. Yeah, in the current circumstances of society, gender is nothing in love. For all the points I mentioned, I believe that no one can raise objection of how important love is in our lives today. - Have relationships with neighbors where you live changed in recent years? How? It is likely that there is no change in my relationship with neighbors recently. We are just neighbors, no more no less, just say hi in the morning and ask some polite questions when we run into each others. Some of the old-timers moved out and some of the novices came. The relationships still stay the same. - How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? Why/Why not? Just like a music sheet, human life has some low notes and they are short spaces of time when a person wants to spend it alone. Spending some time alone could give you chance to purify your mind, to carry out some important decisions, and the most important, it could make you aware how precious the love and friendship that we own are. PART 3 SPEAKING IELTS 5, page 77. What do you think are the most important qualities for friends to have? In my opinion, one of the most important qualities which friends need to have is that they should be interested in each other. Firstly, I think a good friend is a person who sympathizes with us. We have issues galore in life so we need a friend who is always listening, willing to be next to us rain or shine and sharing weal and woe with us. Secondly, they will help us with pleasure when we have troubles in life. They will try to understand the situation, points of view from their friends and do actions which show that they care about us. Which are more important to people, their family or their friend? Why? In my opinion, family and friends are the same importance. Family has persons who we love most. In any circumstances, they are always willing to love, protect and welcome us back. They dont expect any rewards but they just hope we are happy. On the other hands, we need friends in society. Good friends and bad friends exist simultaneously by our side. They can

- 89 -

help us with pleasure or harm us because of a purpose but we can grow up after that. Having best friends is one of the most happiness in life anyway. What do you think causes friendships to break up? I think there are causes galore that make friendships break up. Firstly, it is calmness. There sometimes misunderstanding between friends, if you lose control of yourself, the contradiction may be more serious and this makes amities fragile. Secondly, it is jealousness. When you are jealous with someone, you cant understand and share any emotions with them even you always have bad thought about them. That is disastrous so you should know how to get along with other friends. What other types of relationship, apart from friends or family, are important in peoples lives today? In my opinion it is relationship with neighbors because they are persons who we meet everyday and relate with our familys lives. They share every bowl of rice and every bit of clothes in hard times with our family. They console and mobilize us when our family has bad things. They share happiness with us when they or we have a joy, etc. They make us feel that life is more beautiful. How relationships with neighbors where you live changed in recent year? How? It is lucky for my family that we have good neighbors. We have lived in this neighborhood for 13 years. I feel that the relationships between everyone here have not changed for a long time. They are still kind-hearted and friendly with each other. We live in security and good health. How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? Why/ Why not? I think everyone should spend some time alone because we need to cogitate something in our lives. It is also a chance for us to experience harsh trials or spend a life with nobody in a period of time. We will realize authentic value of relationships in our lives. However, the person I would like to say today has many memories with me. We have been friends for 9 years, but best friends for 5 years. Actually, the first time I met her, I did not like her very much because she was a novice in my class. In secondary school, I could say that we were aggressors. We never talked to each other during 3 years. Subsequently, in high school, we were classmates inadvertently. From that, we had many chances to discuss lessons or chat together. Time flies. Its been 5 years. Now, we are still best friends. She is very thin but tall. She is outgoing and get on well with people. When I have difficulties, she always besides me to help me extricate from those situations. She has a positive outlook on life. Therefore, she is the person whom I always turn to for advice. Nobody is perfect. Although sometimes we have controversies because of the difference in thinking, one of us will always take in lying down. Yes, I think that it is very important for a person to spend some time alone because when people are alone, they will have time to reflect about their lives, their achievements as well as their blunder. Subsequently, they can perceive that what they should change or improve SPEAKING TEST 3, IELTS 5 PART 1: Do you prefer relaxing at home or going out in the evening? Personally, I prefer relaxing at home in the evening. I have many reasons why I choose this alternative. Firstly, I have had such a busy day that I just want to relax and enjoy the rest of the days at home. It is necessary for me to have peaceful minutes in which simultaneously, I can lie on my couch, have a cup of milk and enjoy my favorite programs on TV. It will be more wonderful if I enjoy these minutes with my family. Secondly, when going out in the
- 92 -

evening, I may face many inadvertent accidents from traffic problems or something like that, which leads to the fact that I just want to go home safe and sound as soon as possible. Therefore, it is safer for me to relax at home in the evening. When you go out for an evening, what do you like to do? I feel very interested in this question. The only thing appearing in my mind straightaway is sitting in a caf with smooth and harmonious music. Concurrently, I enjoy having a cup of coffee, watching people dawdling outside and thinking of what I have done that day. It will be happy if I can enjoy them with my chums. We chat and talk about every thing, which helps me relax and feel comfortable. How popular is this with other people in your country? Vietnam is a developing country and is extricating from indigence. Therefore, people in my country have ways galore when going out for an evening. Going to cafes is also popular for most of citizens in my country. However, unlike myself, they have a weakness for animated caf more than quiet cafes. It is the reason why you can see there is an abundant system of cafes which were overloaded by multitude of people in the evening. Is there any kind of entertainment you do not like? Yes, it is. As I see it, one sort of entertainment which need to be mitigated is night clubs. In night clubs, the music is very loud, dark and people dance unconsciously. With a night at clubs you must waste lots of money doing useless things. Besides, juvenile delinquency is mainly originated from night clubs. Therefore, the government should have policy to control night clubs to lessen their bad influence. PART 2: The friend that makes a good impression on me is the friend whom I knew as a child. When I was about 6 years old, I met her in an inadvertent occasion when I visited my mothers company every Sunday. She was my mothers friends daughter. We knew each other for just 1 year. She was a little girl with short hair and lovely face. However, what made me impressed in the first time I met her was her beautiful voice and she went to town in every melody. We tried to get acquainted with each other with cordiality. Notwithstanding the fact that we just became friends, we got along very well because of having many things in common. I felt very excited every Sunday as meeting her. Simultaneously, we sang our favorite songs and danced together. What I liked most was we were side by side to discover every corner in our mothers company. Our friendship was very pure and I supposed we would be chums permanently. However, life was not as good as what we thought. Because of many reasons, my mother quitted that job and I lost contact with her from that time. Although
- 93 -

we have not seen each other for a long time and we even can not recognise each other if we see the other on the streets by chance, all things with her are the most beautiful memory in my childhood. PART 3: What do you think are the most important qualities for friends to have? In my opinion, there are qualities galore for friends to have which depend on individuals attitude. Personally, the first is understanding. Because of the fact that it is quite common for friends to have disputes, the understanding is a perfect reconciler. Secondly, I suppose it is generous. If you are not generous enough to forgive your friends faults, your friendship will be fragile. Which are more important to people, their family are their friends? Why? As far as I am concerned, this question is like a curious chicken and egg conundrum. In my opinion, both family and friends have a vital influence in our life in different ways. Firstly, family are our flesh and blood relatives. If the world lets you down, your family are always ready beside you and raise you up. Secondly, lets talk about friends. They also can affect our characters and attitude. They are the people with whom you can share things not told to family. What do you think causes friendships to break up? I suppose there are many things making friendships break up. The first is not sharing. if there are something wrong and you keep them in your hearts and do not tell them to the others, your sorrow will be bigger and bigger, which uproots your friendship. Secondly, it is not caring. A good night wish or encouraging words can have surprising results. However, if there is a shortage of them, your friendship will be easily breakable. What other types of relationship, apart from friends or family, are important in peoples lives today? Apart from friends and family, there are many vital relationships nowadays. The first is the relationship between teachers and students. It is a good phenomenon that many undergraduates still keep in contact with their teachers at high schools or universities. The second is business relationships. For maintaining and upgrading their business, they must have many crafts to make it better. Have relationships with neighbors where you live changed in recent years? How? Yes, they have. As far as I know, the relationships with neighbors in my neighborhood are not as good and close as those in the past. For example, the first is they do not spend as much time with others to share everything of their lives as in the past. Secondly, nowadays
- 94 -

neighbors are more hostile than in the past. The reason is the consequences of technological age. Therefore, people have to spend more time working than improving their surrounding relationships. How important do you it is for a person to spend time alone? Why/Why not? In my opinion, people should spend reasonable time alone. I am a busy person, which leads to the fact that I really respect every minute alone. Firstly, it gives us a chance to calm down and let our souls free after hard working day. Secondly, being alone makes us think about ourselves and everything we have done to improve ourselves. TEST 3 - IELTS 5 Part 3 What do you think are the most important qualities for friends to have? I will certainly say that belief and forgiveness are more important than anything else in friendship. When you can't trust someone, you can no way have a good relationship with them, let alone to be a friend. Besides, everyman has his fault, if you just keeping critisize their blunders, you also ruin your own friendship. Which are more important to people, their family or their friends? Why? I will definitely confirm that family is the most important thing to people. First and foremost, family is the place you were born, therefore it is the only place that bring you safe and sound feelings. The second reason is that everyone can let you down at anytime, but family is never. What do you think causes friendships to break up? As I see it, the reason making friendships to break up is betrayal. When a friend betrays you, I'm sure that there is no way to reconcile and heal your friendship anymore. Being betrayed is not comfortable, so you must always put yourself in other's shoes to do the right things so as not to regret anything. What other types of relationship, apart from friends or family, are important in people's lives today? People say that love is one of the most important feeling in life. No one can live without love at least once. When someone is in love, he or she will feel all emotions from misery to happiness, which are definitely different from the other feelings. Love is a natural emotion of human, so when you have a chance of loving someone, just don't be shy and do express your heart. Have relationship with neighbors where you live changed in recent years? How?

- 95 -

Yes, they have changed a little in recent years. The busier the life is, the less care people have. They work all days, therefore they don't have time to talk to anyone. Time for caring neighbors is considered once in a blue moon and I have a feeling that day by day, they will become more glacial to everyone. How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? Why/Why not? It seems that spending some time alone is quite neccessary for a person. No matter how busy your life is, you absolutely need a time to rest, to think and to stop. Stopping for looking back what you did and defining what you will do. Simultaneously, being alone to know how empty your life will be if you don't have anyone beside you and you will learn how to treasure precious moments in life. How do you usually contact your friends? Today, with the development of technology, contacting other people becomes easier and easier. For example, I can contact my friends by cell phone, email, yahoo or face book. Do you prefer to contact different people in different ways? It is likely that contacting different people in different ways is interesting and I think I also like that. Depending on different conditions, you can or have to contact different people in different ways such as face to face or yahoo messenger. Do you find it easy to keep in contact with friends and family? I think that keeping in contact with friends and family is not difficult. You can keep in contact with friends and family easily by phone or service from internet. However, sometimes, having less free time is one of the reasons why you can not keep in contact with friends and family. In your country, did people in the past keep in contact in the same ways as they do today? It is obvious that with the development of technology, keeping in contact among people is also different from this in the past. For example, many years ago, if you wanted to keep in contact with other people, you usually had to write letters and so long after that, the person whom you sent the letters to could receive it. IELTS 7 TEST 1 PART 2 Describe a party that you enjoyed

- 96 -

The party that I enjoyed very much was my 18th birthday. It was taken three months ago. My parents held this party for me at my home and I invited all my cronies to attend. To start the party, I blew out the candles on the birthday cake while everyone was singing the song Happy Birthday. After that, they gave some gifts, cards and best wishes to me. We ate a lot of delicious food and beverage. During the party, we played many funny games and this was a reason which made me like the party very much. One of the games that I won called "Finding idioms". I won because I found many strange and good idioms such as dance to another tune, raining cats or dogs, paint the town red, etc. At the end of the party, I opened all gifts and took a lot of photos with my cronies. This party was nothing but fun and games. However, it was beautiful and memorable. SPEAKING PART 1 PAGE 32 IELTS 7 KEEPING IN CONTACT WITH PEOPLE 1. How do you usually contact with your friends? I mostly contact my friends by phone, and I've started using the Internet to make video calls. In this way, I can talk to or send them a message to inquire after my friends lives. Also I can discuss lessons with them. But I always try to visit them in person as often as I can. 2. Do you prefer to contact different people in different ways? Yes, I prefer to contact different people in different ways. I think I can use any ways to contact my friends because we are the same ages; but my parents want to hear my voice to ensure that Im all right. Therefore, I use email and text messages to contact with friends, but my parents prefer it if I phone them. 3. Do you find it easy to keep in contact with friends and family? Yes. In my opinion, with the developing of technology we can be easy to keep in contact with friends and family in anywhere, at any time. Through the internet, we can not only meet and make a small talk with our friends but also do business with colleagues or clients easily. We can do the same with our family. So distance is not a problem now, we can communicate with anyone we want. 4. In your country, did people in the past keep in contact in the same ways as they do today? No. In my country, people in the past didnt keep in contact in the same way as they do today. At that time, people used letter or phone to contact with each other. But now they use email, text messages, mobile phone, etc. I don't write letters by hand because it's so much easier to send an email that will arrive immediately. But one of the disadvantages of mobile phone is
- 97 -

that I don't like listening to other people's conversations in public places, and I don't like it when someone's phone rings in the cinema or during a lesson. SPEAKING PART 2 PAGE 32 - IELTS 7 Describe a party that you enjoyed. The most interesting party is my cronys birthday party last Sunday evening. We went for a meal in a Chinese restaurant. There were few guests about 10 of us; she invited some close friends in high school and university and most of them were people Ive known since high school. We met at the restaurant. We inquired after one another first and then I gave my friend a present and a birthday card. She extended a sincere thank you to each and every one of us to be here with her. Then we ordered some food. While we ate dinner, everyone chatted joyfully. After the main course, the waiter brought out a cake and we sang 'Happy Birthday'. Also, we played many interesting games. The first game was who said as many idioms as possible. It was very ebullient and finally my team won. We said idioms about weather such as: Any port in the storm; Bolt from the blue; Brighten up the day; Cloud of suspicion; Colder than a witches tit; Every cloud has a silver lining, etc. Then everyone went home quite late. The party made me happy because it was great to get together with old friends. I had some interesting conversations and it was a good opportunity to catch up with what my friends had been up to. Moreover, it was a nice way to wind down after a hard week at studies. The food was delicious with friendly atmosphere and polite staff and good service made a good memory. I went home feeling full after a fantastic meal; good restaurant and enjoyable company. IELTS 7 - SPEAKING TEST 1: page 32 Part 2: - Describe a party that you enjoyed As far as I am concerned, the party I think is the most impressive was the Halloweens Party last October. This party was held at the Acoustic Bar to celebrate the Halloween for the youth. Acoustics Bar is located in the city center. Therefore, it was very convenient for everyone to call at. We enjoyed delicious beverages and Halloweens masquerade simultaneously. Everyone was offered to disguise as Angels style or Devils style and then we were splited into 2 teams to play some funny games. Ridiculously, Devils style was chosen by a majority, therefore we couldnt split as intended. The most fantastic part of this party was live rock concert which burned all the heats of the attendees. We danced, we sang,
- 98 -

we yelled more than 3 hours together. It was the craziest and the most entertaining party that I have ever joined in. IELTS 7 - SPEAKING TEST 2: page 55 Part 1: - What kinds of thing make you laugh? There is a variety of things which can make me laugh, such as comedies, funny pictures or even just an interesting small talk with my cronies. Laughing is the good way to mitigate stress in life. - Do you like making other people laugh? Why/Why not? Yes, I do. I like making my beloved people laugh. When we have fun together, all the distances could be minimized and we will get closer and closer. With strange people, I cant do that because I dont understand them well and I dont feel confident in my sense of humor. - Do you think its important for people to laugh? Why/Why not? Absolutely yes! There is an old saying: Laughter is the best medicine, therefore you can imagine how important laugh is. Laughing makes you relax after hard working time, makes you feel better when you are in hard time. - Is laughing the same as feeling happy, do you think? Why/Why not? As far as I am concerned, laughing is a visual expression of happiness, or an inward feeling of joy. It may ensue from hearing a joke, being tickled, or other stimuli. It is in most cases a very pleasant sensation. However, laughing is not only the same as feeling happy, it is also a way to deride someone or something or to hide their real thoughts. IELTS 7_TEST 2 PART 1: What kinds of thing make you laugh? There are some things that make me laugh. They are when I read funny stories, when I remember happy memories and when I meet friends who have a sense of humour. Do you like making other people laugh? Making other people laugh makes me happy because i can see their smile. Another reason why I like doing that is creating funny atmosphere makes meetings not boring. Do you think it's important for people to laugh?

- 99 -

As I see it, it's vital for people to laugh. For example, there are some people who do everything just because they want to make others laugh and see it. I think if you can laugh, you will feel that liife is awesome and beautiful. Is laughing the same as feeling happy, do you think? I think that there are some discrepancies between laughing and feeling happy. In some situation, they laugh because of their sorrow not happiness. PART2: Describe an idea you had for improving something at work or college I am a student at BU, which is well-known enough to most people. that is really a feather in my cap. However, its library is not good like I ised to imagine one in the famous university. When I come to the library, I think that it is better if something changes. Firstly, I suggest that university should improve the services in the library. i don't mean to put them down but the librarians and the staff there are sort of a cold fish. The second idea I put forward improving is that there should be more new and abundant supply of books. the reason for this is that there are old books that have dim pages so it is hard for students to read them. Thirdly, they ought to turn on air-conditioning system in order to makes students more comfortable when they read books there. And last but not least , I see that the fees are higher year in, year out but there is no change to be better. Some students never come to the library but they must also pay the fees. I think the university should rethink the question of the library fee. In conclusion, if the university can improve these issues about library, they will help students study better. SPEAKING PART 1 IELTS 7 TEST 2, page 55. LAUGHING 1. What kinks of thing make you laugh? It depends on my feeling. When I am happy, everything can make me laugh. When I feel bad, I think it is hard to make me feel better and smile even though everyone gives me the thing I like best. 2. Do you like making other people laugh? Yes, I do. In my opinion, a sense of humor is one of the most important factors of successful communications. When you make other people laugh, they will be more friendly and openminded with you. And last but not least, you brought pleasure to them and your heart overflowed with joy. 3. Do you think its important for people to laugh?
- 100 -

Yes, I do. I think a smile is a restorative because laughing can help people relax and burn off stress simultaneously. Laughing makes people joy have of living and become more sanguine. 4. Is laughing the same as feeling happy, do you think? No, I dont think so. In my opinion, laughing is merely a part of feeling happy. You can laugh when you are happy but the contrary isn't true. Feeling happy is an emotion but laughing is just display of emotion. SPEAKING PART 2 TEST 2 IELTS 7, page 55. Describe an idea you had for improving something at work or college. I am studying English to take the IELTS test and I realized that idioms and academic vocabularies are very important in speaking strategies. I had a good idea to use them effectively. In any topic I try to bring idioms and academic words simultaneously into my speech as a game between friends, or turn a location into an ideal place to learn idioms, even I can talk about idioms in anywhere at any time, etc. My crony and I have a book major in idioms and academic words so we prepare our own speech based on a topic and exchange them with each other. We like to talk about American English idioms such as smell a rat, play it by ear, eating someone, dressed to the teeth, get in someones hair, for a song, paint the town red, etc. Sometimes we play a game who say as many sentences contain academic words as possible. But the competition is drawn because both of us can give sentences galore. After a period using this way, not only my speaking skill makes fast progress but also the other skills are improved. I have not understood reading tests completely before because they have academic words galore. I could not speak fluently or express my thoughts because I had a very limited vocabulary. So learning and using academic words as well as idioms help me enlarge my vocabulary. Now speaking and writing and reading are easier for me. Ielts 7- Speaking test 3 Part 1: Have you ever been in very cold weather?[when?] No, I have not. I have lived in the south of a tropical country, Vietnam, which is near from the equator. So, I have not once spent the feeling of a cold weather. How often is the weather cold where you come from? I live in Soc Trang province which is in the south of Vietnam. Obviously, a cold weather is a rarity here. However, it gets a little colder in winter. Are some parts of your country colder than others?[Why?]

- 101 -

Of course, there are many places which are colder than my home place because my province is not so near from the North Pole as other parts of the country. And the cold place I like to mention is Sa Pa. Sa Pa town is one of the coldest places in Vietnam since it is a high area in the north. Snow used to fall here. Would you prefer to live in a hot place or a cold place?[Why?] Given the choice between a hot place and a cold place, I would prefer to live in a cold place. As I feel very uncomfortable in the heat which often makes us easy to get angry and difficult to think. So, I think the little colder weather is good for me to work and makes me feel more comfortable. Part 2: Describe a competition that you took part in There are many competitions that I took part in. And a competion Id like to talk about is a game called Big game. In a camping trip to Phan Thiet with my classmates in the university last year, I played this game. It took place at 12pm sharp. There were five teams and each one had about 8 to 10 people. We had to pass seven stations and at each one, there were some requirements for each team to do. These requiments themselves made this game interesting. First, we did something such as using hands to pour the water into the bottle, using mouth to hold a spoon to move a lemon to other members and solving a secret letter at last. After that we moved to other station. It was so funny. We felt very happy to do these with our team. We were closer and knew more about the others. These are also the reasons why Id like to take part in this game. At that time, my team won the game but that was not the most important. The prize was a package containing a lot of cake and sweet. And we had memories that we never forget. Ielts 7 - Speaking test 3 - Part 1 1. Have you ever been in very cold weather? (When?) Yes, I have already been in a chilly weather. This is when I came to my hometown in Lunar New Year. The temperature is so low that everyone hands to stay at home and the streets are empty. 2. How often is the weather cold where you come from? atmospheric conditions here is very harsh such as sometimes it rains cats and dogs but there are sometimes droughts. 4. Would you prefer to live in a hot place or a cold place? (Why?) Given the choice between living in a hot place and living in a cold place, I would choose the former because the hot weather makes us more active. Instead of staying at home, everyone goes out and strolls more than in a cold place. And I like it! SPEAKING ( PART 1_TEST 3_IELTS 7) COLD WEATHER 1. Have you ever been in very cold weather? [When?] I have never been in very cold weather. Simply because I live in HCM city, year in, year out and dont have any opportunities to visit any cold places. Although my classmates and I felt cold very much, we played with snow and painted the town red. 2. How often is the weather cold where you come from? I come from HCM city. Its only quite cold from November to December. And as you know, it has two seasons: rainy season and dry season. Its hot in the dry season and its raining cats and dogs in the rainy season. Thats the reason why the weather here is not very cold. 3. Are some parts of your country colder than others? [Why?] Yes. Some parts of my country which are colder than others are some provinces in the North of Viet Nam such as Lang Son, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, etc Because its farther from the equator than the South and affected by the north-east monsoon. According to many scientists, the winter is colder than before and there is snow in many places. 4. Would you prefer to live in a hot place or a cold place? [Why?] I dont like hot or cold place. Id prefer to live in a cool place. Firstly, living in a cool place makes me feel more comfortable than in a hot place or a cold place. Secondly, the cool place seems safer. Living in a hot place or in a cold place, we may suffer from droughts or snow storms. Finally, the cool weather is good for my health as I cant stand being in a very hot or very cold weather. SPEAKING TEST 3 PART 1 - IELTS 7, PAGE 80. COLD WEATHER 1. Have you ever been in very cold weather? [When?]

- 103 -

Yes, I have. My hometown is in the northern part of Vietnam where the weather is very cold in winter especially during the days near Lunar New Year. When I visit my hometown in New Years holidays I always stand the shivering cold and it usually makes me sick. 2. How often is the weather cold where you come from? It is usually slightly cold in days near Christmas and it merely lasts from one to two months before changing to dry season. 3. Are some parts of your country colder than others? [Why?] Yes, they are. Firstly, provinces in the northern part of Vietnam are usually under northeasterly winds influences so they have a winter which is colder than others. The temperature of these regions sometimes decreases to under 5 degree Celsius. 4. Would you prefer to live in a hot place or a cold place? I prefer to live in a hot place because I cant stand cold weather. Describe a competition (TV, college/work or sports competition) that you took part in. Last semester, my school organized an annual learning competition named FESE. This is a competition not only for students in my school but also for students who major in economics of some universities in Ho Chi Minh City. It was financed by stock companies such as HSC, Viet Capital, VN Direct, etc. FESE imitated a stock exchange transaction in reality but your accounts were imaginary and time exchanges as well as some rules were easier for you investors. Almost students who majored in finance banking in my school had to take part in this competition including me. Firstly, I had to buy an account to transactions. Secondly, I took part in seminars and seven constant transaction sessions as well as online transaction. Until the competition finished, the organization board would pick out 10 accounts which were the most profitable to award the prizes. The winner could receive the biggest prize worth 3 million VND and opportunities to be on probation in finance companies. As the slogan of the competition: FESE where you build your dream I had interesting experiences galore about eventful stock market. I realized that I had to take the bull by the horns when I got into a situation from which I would not be able to extricate myself. I was sitting pretty and also
- 104 -

blew it but everything was good. Although I didnt get any prizes, I would try my best next year. Ielts 7 - Speaking test 3 - Part 2 The most memorable competition that I have already taken part in is the flower arranging contest. This annual rivalry is celebrated at my university. The competition requires us to design a flower vase and to talk about its connotation. According to my friends, I have an artistic eyes and I am adept in expressing ideas. So how come I do not attend? My masterpiece was a flower vase with a little soil and some blooms. Picture this situation, the womans image was similized akin to a fat land which creates, takes care and brings up the men. This crazy idea already made an amazing effect. The young audiences totally saw eye to eye with my thought. They clapped their hands and shouted for encouragement so much. If the examiners had evaluated my work based on the viewers supports, I would have been the winner. But I found out that these women are in late adulthood, ostensibly hated the thought that they represented the earth. I bet you all know the ending. Yes, I came through with flying colors, but got no prize. This was awesome ! IELTS 7: Test 3- Part 1 1. Have you ever been in very cold weather? [When?] Yes, I had a choice of traveling Da Lat with my mother when I was just a child. Da Lat's weather contrasts Viet Nam's other places weather. In Vietnam, Da Lat is a popular tourist destination 2. How often is the weather cold where you come from? In my homeland, the weather is not often cold. It is just cold on Christmas and at the beginning of spring. 3. Are some parts of your country colder than others? [Why?] Yes, there are several areas in my country colder than others, such as Da Lat, Sapa,....I think the major cause of cold weather in these regions is the altitude. For example, the altitude in Da Lat is 1,500 m, and Sapa is about 1600m. 4. Would you prefer to live in a hot place or a cold place? [Why?] If forced to choose between a hot place and a cold place, I will opt for the cold place. I think I will be more comfort when I live in the cold weather. Besides, I also like cool weather, so autumn is my favorite season.

PART 2: DESCRIBE A HISTORIC BUILDING I am going to talk about the Reunification Palace, formerly known as the Independence Palace. It was built on the site of the former Norodom Palace and it is a landmark in HCMC. It is located in Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street and was designed by architect Ngo Viet Thu and was the home and workplace of the President of South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. The attractions inside of the airy palace interior are pretty sparse. Roped-off rooms such as the presidential office, receiving room, and bedroom appear musky and grim with antique furniture and bare walls. A highlight of the Reunification Palace is found in the basement which includes a command bunker with old radio equipment and strategy maps on the walls. After exiting the basement into the courtyard, there is a room filled with historic photos heavily sprinkled with propaganda portraying the fall of the Independence Palace. On the fourth floor rooftop, there are some nice views of the palace grounds as well as an old US-UH 1 helicopter. The rooftop was used as a helipad for evacuating staff just before the palace was overrun. The palace is interesting to me because marks the end of Viet Nam war during the Fall of Saigon. Also, knowing clearly about the history of my own country is what I think I can be proud of. PART 1 SPEAKING test 4 IELTS 7, page 103. Travelling to work or college 1. How do you usually travel to work or college? I usually travel to college by motorbike. Because my house is near my school so motorbike is a suitable transport to travel to college fast. Moreover, I can move around on my own initiative. 1. Have you always travelled to work/college in the same way? Yes, I have. Because there arent any bus routes across my college and I also can not travel to college on foot or by bike so motorbike is a best choice for me now. 2. What do you like about travelling to work/college this way? I can move around on my own initiative and dont worry about being late for school. If you want to go somewhere by bus, you will have to wait for a long time especially in rush hour. And if there arent any bus routes across that place, it may take you more than 2 buses and go there on foot. 3. What changes would improve the way you travel to work/college?
- 106 -

In my opinion travelling to college by motorbike not only has advantages galore but also has many disadvantages. But I think safety depends on yourself so what I want to improve is observing the Highway Code and having a sense of safety not only for me but also for other people. Part 1: Topic: travel to work or college 1) How do you usually travel to work or college (why) I usually travel to college by bicycle every morning. It takes me 15 minutes to go to school. I think this way is very convenient. It not only helps me practise exercisewhich is good for my health, but it also helps me save a lot of money as well as protect the environment. You know, if I travel to college by motorbike, I have to pay for petrol, and this vehicle also gives off fumes. So, I prefer going to school by bicycle. 2) Have you always travelled to work/college in the same way? (why?/ why not) No, I have not usually gone to college in the same way. Sometimes I walk to college. If I have enough time to walk to school, I will choose this way because I can enjoy the fresh air in the morning and I can see the way people start a new day, the bustling life around me. 3) What changes could improve the way you travel to work/ college (why). I think if the street light system on the way I travel to school is improved, I could feel more secure because I sometimes have classes in the evening. Besides the light system, the fresh air is also important. Apart from me, there are a lot of people who walk to college, to work. So, I think it is better if we enhance the peoples sense of the importances of environment. Our lives will become fresher and more and more people want to go to college on foot like me. Part 2 IELT 7 (page:103) Topic: describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find useful Nowadays, when the society is developing more and more, there are a lot of electronic devices being invented. They are very useful for us. Among them, I prefer the washing machine. Two years ago, i had to wash the clothes by hands, it took a lot of time to do this. So, when knowing about this electric device, my family decided to buy a washing machine. Thanks to it, i can save a lot of time as well as energy. It is not difficult to operate. I learned the way to use it by others reference as well as reading the instruction notes. Now, it is also in good condition. I find it worth having one. In general, my life becomes easier and more comfortable since i bought this machine. I think that everyone should possess one if possible.
- 107 -

PART 2- TEST 4 Describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find useful. You should say: What it is How you learned to use it How long you have had it and explain why you find this piece of electronic equipment useful. Nowadays, with the development of the society and the development of technology, peoples lives become more and more convenient at their work as well as at their house. I think television is a piece of electronic equipment that I find very useful in life. It is very convenient and easy to use. You just turn it on and watch everything you want. My parents told me my house had the first television when my parents got married. Recently, we bought a new television because the old TV was out of date. I think TV is useful and convenient electronic equipment because you can watch and learn many things and you do not need to go outside. I think it is really out of the world when you just stay at home, but you can see many countries and many beautiful scenes which you have not to go to there. You can know much news around the world and you can learn about life through discovery channel. Besides that, through TV, I can see many poor people who have to burn the candle at both ends to earn money for their families or for themselves in order to find that I am very happy now. Those are the reasons why I think television is a piece of electronic equipment that I find useful. SPEAKING PART 1- TEST 4 1. How do you usually travel to work or college? Because my school is far away from my house, I have to go to school by bus. Sometimes, I also go to school by my motorbike. However, with the dramatic increase in fuel price at this time, I think travelling by bus is the best way to save money. 2. 3. Have you always travelled to work/college in the same way? What do you like about travelling to work/college this way? Yes, I have. I have to go to my university by bus year in year out. Every day, I travel back and forth between Thu Duc district and district 10 by bus. Although going by bus sometimes makes me so tired, I think this way is a good way to save money, protect environment and help to reduce traffic jam. 4. What changes would improve the way you travel to work/college?

- 108 -

In my opinion, people who travel by bus should have a sober view about awareness as well as behavior on bus. For example, when an elderly lady entered the crowded bus, a young person should relinquish his seat to her. Besides that, everybody should not elbow others out in a crowded bus. SPEAKING TEST 4 PART 2 IELTS 7, page 103. Describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find useful. When I was admitted into Economics University, my parents rewarded a laptop for me. I expected this laptop long time ago but my parents said it merely necessary when I studied in university. At first I rummaged about all programs in my laptop to consider them from every angle. My brother is a computer programmer, he told me not to do that but I didnt obey him. Finally I had to face the music: the laptop was crashed. Fortunately, my brother helped me to solve these problems. The most interesting that I knew how to use most programs thanks to that mistake. The laptop definitely helps me because it makes many tasks so much easier. For example, email is such a useful tool for communication between friends in different places, even in different countries. I can take it with me in anywhere, at anytime. The laptop is such a big notebook because it can not only contain an amount of information but also help us to organize data. Almost laptops in the market now also have wireless Internet so I can find information on the internet or instant access to my favorite website instead of sitting the whole day in front of a PC with the modem at home. The other functions of laptop are writing report, making video call, supporting for presentation, etc. I think the laptop is essential part of my life. IELTS 7 SPEAKING TEST 3 PART 1 Have you ever been in very cold weather? (when?) Yes, I have. The cold season in Vietnam occurs from November to April. Simultaneously, it is raining cats and dogs. Therefore, the weather turns quite cold and wet. How often is the weather cold where you come from? The weather is usually cold from November to March next year annually. The temperature drops much when Tet holiday is coming. Moreover, storms hit the area every year in September and October. Are some part of your country colder than others? (why?)

- 109 -

In my opinion, there are two cities of my country colder than others. These are Sapa city in the North and Dalat city in the South. The common reason for two colder parts is they are located on the high lands and above the sea level at least 1500m. Each land has its own special cold and beauty. Year in year out, two places became well-known destinations for vacation. Would you prefer to live in hot place or a cold place? (why?) Personally, I prefer to live in a cold place to a hot one because of the following reasons. Firstly, I always live under the hot climate. To stir thing up a bit, I would like to try living in a cold condition. Secondly, sometimes in front of my unsolved problems, heavy sun makes me act like add fuel to the fire. Finally, I love snow. I feel happy as I roll in snow, taste snow, pack snow into ball and tossed it at others. And it would just happen if I was in an extremely cold place. PART 2 Describe a competition (e.g. TV, college/work or sports competition) that you took part in. The most memorable competition that I can think of is a cooking contest in my high school. This was held for Communist Youth Union celebration and took place four years ago. My class nominated two friends and me for a participant group. Simultaneously, I thought it was a long shot, but it would not hurt to try. First of all, we had to make up our mind for our menu. Many men, many minds. We were in trouble about our special dishes before the contest. After racking our brains, we chose some interesting dishes include Duong Chau fried rice, spring roll and jelly. With my mothers recipes, we tried to perform them as well as we could. Practice makes perfect. Finally, the first prize was the result we got and made us proud for what we have tried. After the competition, I found myself interested in cuisine and decided to follow a field involving in foodstuff. Year in year out, I realize that I had made a judicious choice. Notwithstanding, I have to fulfill some criteria to become a good food engineer. PART 3 Competitions in school Why do you think some school teachers use competitions as class activities? Personally, the competitive activities in class are an effectively educated method. Firstly, this teaching way is useful to train some essential skills such as confidence, activeness and will to overcome oneself and others. Secondly, the competitive games are also the strong motivation to help studentsimprovement. Finally, teachers can guide them how to play fair through the
- 110 -

conflict contest. Day by day, the experiences in class games become valuable lessons in their real lives. Do you think it is a good thing to give prizes to children who do well at school? Why? From my point of view, a coin has two sides. First, it is a good way to encourage students developments. When giving the prizes, it makes the competition more interesting and students have more motivation. However, the prizes may become the final target of many students and then whatever it can happen they try any way to get it. Would you say that schools for young children have become more or less competitive since you were that age? Why? I think nowadays schools for young children become more competitive than I was that age. The living standards are rapidly developing, so competition is more severe than ever before. And schools for young children are not an exception. IELTS 7 SPEAKING TEST 4 PART 1 How do you usually travel to work or college? (Why?) I usually travel to college by bus. By using public transportation, I can save money and fuel, which is not only beneficial to me but also good for the environment. Have you always travelled to work/ college in the same way? (Why/ Why not?) Yes, I have. I always catch the number six bus to go to my university. Each bus has its own route that is determined by the transport company. Therefore, I travel in the same way to the university every day. What do you like about travelling to work/ college this way? When travelling to college by bus, I do not have to pay attention too much on my driving ability. Moreover, I am free to see two sides of the streets while passing through. Simultaneously, I can enjoy myself by listening to my favorite songs or reading books. What changes would improve the way you travel to work/ college? (Why?) To improve the way I travel to college, we can consider many things. First of all, the government should upgrade the street condition with many potholes now. Secondly, we need the completely separated ways for each vehicle such as motorbike, bus and container. Consequently, they help to reduce the traffic jams as well as accidents and then we are easy to move faster and safer. PART 2

Describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find useful. You should say: -What it is -How you learned to use it -How long you have had it -And explain why you find this piece of electronic equipment useful. The most useful electronic equipment that I can think of now is my laptop. This is a personal computer for mobile use that becomes very widely used for all sorts of purposes nowadays. When being in secondary school, I attended a basic computer course. Thank for this now I can use computer to serve for my studying as well as daily life. I got this laptop from my parents three years ago as a gift and a learning tool when I entered to the new university. Year in year out, now it became my best friend and stood by me to help me things galore even rain or shine. Personally, there are abundant reasons why it is the most useful electronic tool. First, based on the computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, I can develop the knowledge and skills to prepare spreadsheets and presentations efficiently for university assignments and business tasks later. Moreover, besides being useful in studying, when connected to Internet, the laptop is also my pleasant tool to help me do multitasks to relax myself. Simultaneously, I can search news, listen to music and chat to my friends or family. In conclusion, the laptop helps me to solve many problems not only in studying but also in life in the most efficient way. SPEAKING TEST 4 PART 3 IELTS 7, PAGE 103. Technology and housework 1. What kinds of machines are used for housework in modern homes in your country? In my opinion, refrigerator is the most important kitchen appliance that preserves the food and vegetables and keeps them fresh for longer period of time. Besides refrigerator there are various other home appliances like washing machine, microwave, cooker and many more which are quite useful and play a vital role in home. 2. How have these machines benefited people? Are there any negative effects of using them? I think these electronic gadgets are used to perform specific tasks and to save a lot of time of the user. With the fast paced life no one has got time to spend on these household chores and one finds it easy to use these appliances to help in different household tasks. The household
- 112 -

appliances, on the other hand, consume the most energy in our home. Electricity can get expensive, especially when it comes to running all of the necessary appliances. 3. Do you think all new homes will be equipped with household machines in the future? Why? Yes, I think all new homes will be equipped with household machines in the future because of the following reasons. Firstly, various types of household machines will be available in the market with various features and a person will easily choose the one that goes well with persons needs. Secondly, with the advancement in the technology various appliances will come into existence to suit the particular human needs and to ease the life and to live life in more comfortable way than ever before. SPEAKING TEST 1 IELTS 4 PART 1, PAGE 33. Friends 1. Are your friends mostly your age or different ages? [Why?] Most of my friends are about the same age as me because we met at school or university. Besides, I have got some friends who are older or younger than me that I met in English class. 2. Do you usually see your friends during the week or at weekends? [Why?] I tend to meet up with my friends at weekend because everyone is too busy with studies or part-time jobs during the week. 3. 4. The last time you saw your friends, what did you do together? In what ways are your friends important to you? It was our holiday two weeks ago. Four of us went out for a meal and painted the town red. In my opinion, it is important to have friends that you can talk to and be always listening, willing to be next to you rain or shine and sharing weal and woe with you. My friends make me laugh a lot, but I know I can also rely on them whenever I need help or support. PART 2 ca SPEAKING - IELTS c l l phn a s mi ngi s nht. Now, enjoy.. 1. Describe a useful website you have visited - what it was - how you found the address for this website - what it contained - why it was useful to you. Facebook is a social networking website. It's a free website that allows you to keep in contact with friends or find people you've lost touch with. It's one of the most popular websites in the world, with millions of users in different countries. All of my friends use Facebook. One of my friends sent me an email inviting me to join. I signed up and I've been using it ever since. Facebook allows you to keep up to date with what friends are doing. You have a profile page with information and status updates so that you can tell everyone what you're doing. You can post messages to other people's pages. You can upload photos and videos. I find Facebook most useful for organising my life, keeping in touch with friends and storing photos. I think social networking websites have become part of everyday life. 2. Describe an interesting advertisement you have seen:

-where you saw it -what it was about -why you think it was interesting I'm going to talk about an advertisement for Coca-Cola, which is one of the biggest brands in the world. I've seen Coke advertised everywhere, on posters and TV commercials. The advert shows a picture of Santa Claus smiling and holding a bottle of Coke. I think the aim is to target children and associate (link/connect) the brand with Christmas time. The advert is interesting because the company is deliberately trying to influence and attract children. The marketers are trying to capture young customers. They are presenting the drink as something special, a gift for Christmas. However, Coca-Cola is not necessarily a healthy drink for children; it contains a lot of sugar. Maybe this kind of advertising manipulates children and encourages them to pester their parents. 3. Describe a modern building:

-where it was

- 114 -

-what it is used for -why you like/dislike it. Here's my example description of a building in Manchester:I'm going to describe a modern building in Manchester. It's called the Beetham Tower, and it's the tallest building in the city, with about 50 floors.Although it's called the Beetham Tower, most people know this building as the Hilton Hotel. In fact, the bottom half of the tower is the hotel and the top half is apartments. The apartments are expensive because the location and views make them very desirable. I'm not sure if I like the design of the building, it's just a huge glass tower, but it definitely stands out. It has become a famous landmark in the city. You can see it as you approach Manchester, and it's an easy place to meet people because it's so distinctive and easy to find. The most interesting thing about the Beetham Tower is that there is a bar/restaurant on the 23rd floor which has spectacular views of the city; it's definitely the best vantage point in Manchester because there are no walls, only huge windows, so you can look out over the city in any direction. I'd recommend anyone who visits Manchester to go there and experience the view. 4. Describe a party that you enjoyed

-whose party it was -what it was celebrating -where it was held -who went to it -what people did during the party -what you enjoyed about it. When and where: my friend's birthday party, last Saturday evening, we went for a meal in an Italian restaurant.Who: there were about 10 of us, he invited some close friends and work colleagues, most of them were people I've known since university. What happened: we met at the restaurant, I gave my friend a present and a birthday card, we ordered some food, while we ate dinner everyone chatted, after the main course the waiter brought out a cake and we sang 'Happy Birthday', everyone went home quite late. Why it made me happy: it was great to get together with old friends, I had some interesting conversations, it was a good opportunity to catch up with what my friends had been up to, it was a nice way to wind down after a hard week at work, the food was delicious, I went home feeling full after a fantastic meal.

5.

Describe a memorable event in your life:

-when it took place -where it took place -what happened exactly -why it was memorable The memorable event in my life took place 11 years ago when I passed the university entrance examination. I remember It was on August 15th 2000. It was so memorable to me because it was the first time I could make my own decision. I used to be an obedient girl when I was a child. I always listened and followed my parents instructions since I knew that parents always want the best things for their children. I tried my best to be the cream of the crop just to please my parents wishes and also to make them proud of me and love me more. However, it seemed that I became more and more obstinate when I grew up. I was tired and did not want to be a robot any more. I wanted to listen to my heart, make my own decisions and live my own life. That is why when my parents wanted me to do things as their wishes, I would do the opposite. Especially when I was about to enter university. My parents wanted me to become a businesswoman, therefore, they forced me to apply to University of Economics while my dream was to become a teacher of English and study Linguistics. Finally, I made it my own way. To my parents greatest disappointment, I applied to University of Social Sciences and Humanities after having a heated debate with them. I know clearly at that time I drove my parents to despair when I did not follow their advice. Only when ten years passed did I prove to them that I did make a judicious choice and I am now a very successful teacher. 6. Describe one of your friends:

- how you met - how long you have known each other - how you spend time together - why you like this person. In my family, the person I love most is my grandfather who passed away about six years ago because of cancer. Every morning I tried to get up early to garden the flowers and enjoy the fresh
- 116 -

atmosphere with him. 7. Describe an important festival in your country:

- when it occurs - what you did during it - what you like or dislike - why it is important Im going to describe the most important and popular holiday/festival in my country. It is the New Year or more commonly known as Tet holiday. Tet is celebrated on the same day as Chinese New Year though exceptions arise due to the one-hour time difference between Hanoi and Beijing. It is celebrated around late January or early February, until at least the third day. Last year, like many other Vietnamese people, I prepared for Tet by cooking special holiday foods, decorating and cleaning the house. I also returned to my families during Tet, to worship at the family altar and to visit the graves of the ancestors. I like it because it is a chance for people to get together with their relatives. This lets everyone focus on their relatives and the importance of family. It is important because during Tet holiday, Vietnamese visit their families, pagodas and temples, forgetting about the troubles of the past year and hoping for a better upcoming year. Since the Vietnamese believe that the first visitor a family receives in the year determines their fortune for the whole year, people never enter any house on the first day without being invited first. Usually, a person with a happy demeanor who had experienced good luck during the previous year is invited first into the house. In some cases, any person with the names such as Happiness, Wealth, and Luck will be invited to perform this act. However, just to be safe, the owner of the house will leave the house a few minutes before midnight and come back just as the clock strikes midnight to prevent anyone else from entering the house first who might potentially bring any unfortunate events in the new year to the household.
- 117 -

Sweeping during Tet is taboo, since it symbolizes sweeping the luck away. It is also taboo for anyone who experienced a recent loss of a family member to visit anyone else during Tet. 8. Describe a piece of electronic equipment that you find useful: - what it is - how you learned to use it. - how long you have had it. - why you find it useful. Im going to describe a piece of electronic equipment that I find useful. It is the laptop. I have had it for nearly two years and it was a gift from my parents on my birthday. its not difficult at all for me to learn to use it because I just needed to look at the manual and follow the instructions about how to turn it on, turn it off, how to install software and many other things. The most significant thing is that it is portable. And its portability features offer several distinct advantages: first is its productivity. When using a laptop, I dont have to waste my time. For example, I can manage my email during a long-hour commute by bus or do my homework in the university coffee shop during short break between lectures. Second is its immediacy. When I carry my laptop, it means I have instant access to various information, personal and work files. Immediacy allows better collaboration between students, as a laptop can be flipped open to present a problem or a solution at anytime, anywhere. I think it is really useful because it has everything integrated into the chassis. I am a teacher of English and at school, I can use my laptop to bring texts, sound, and pictures into a classroom. With the laptop and things shown on the projector overhead, I can attract and retain students attention. I can speed up the teaching process and make difficult-to-explain ideas straight forward. This means that I can spend more time answering students questions and catering for other needs. 9. Describe an interesting historic place - what it is - where it is located - what you can see there now - why this place is interesting I am going to talk about the Reunification Palace, formerly known as the Independence Palace. Roped-off rooms such as the
- 118 -

presidential office, receiving room, and bedroom appear musky and grim with antique furniture and bare walls. IELTS 4 SPEAKING TEST 1 PART 3 / Page 33 Discussion topics: Looking after historic places Example questions: 1. How do people in your country feel about protecting historic buildings? As I see it, in my country, most people are aware of the importance of protecting historic places, because they know that the historic places are priceless things which connect the pass to the present and even the future. Therefore, people in my country think protecting the historic monument is really necessary. 2. Do you think an area can benefit from having an interesting historic place locally? In what way? In my opinion, people generally prefer to visit the historic areas. Consequently if there are historic buildings, they will attract more tourists to visit which will help develop local tourism and industrial zones. This will lead to the growth of service industries, restaurants, and entertainment. Besides that, it creates an excess profit and jobs galore for the local. So it can really benefit from having an enjoyable historic place locally. 3. What do you think will happen to historic places or buildings in the future? Why? I think the historic monuments probably will be degraded or even disappear in the future if we do not have any rational conservation policy. Because nothing can exist forever, the weather conditions such as rain, sunlight, winds, etc can also destroy them; in addition, humans visit can also be the cause to destroy them.

IELTS 4, SPEAKING TEST 2 PART 1: What kind of food do you like to eat? The food which I like to eat is eggs because eggs are not only nutritious but also cheap. Also, my mom, who treats me as an apple of her eyes, can cook a lot of delicious dishes made from eggs so I love eggs from that time. What kind of new food would you like to try? [Why?] The kind of food which I would like to try is European food. The reason is that I have a keen interest in the outstanding food of other continents, especially European food. When I watched cooking programs on TV, I only had a dream of enjoying them. Do you like cooking? Yes, I do. I often cook with my mother whenever I have free time. I think it is a vitally important skill of girls and I suppose it is really absorbing to cook new original dishes by myself and watch the members in my family enjoying them. What was the last meal you cooked? The last meal I cooked was our lunch today. Because my parents go to work all day, I have to cook lunch for my sister and me. At the beginning, despite finding some troubles with cooking lunch, year in year out I get used to it and cook well. Do you prefer home-cooked food or food from restaurants? [Why?] Personally, I prefer home-cooked food. I think home-cooked food is more hygienic and better for our health than food from restaurants. Besides, we can make home-cooked food to our taste and do not worry about paying an arm and a leg for food restaurant. PART 2: My avocation is listening to music. About 2 years ago, when I had to work hard for my entrance exam to university, I had to rack my brains to do homework and felt under pressure. At that time, my chum suggested me to listen to music and I became interested in it. I have maintained this hobby for 2 years. I enjoy listening to music because it brings me a lot of benefits. Firstly, when I am stumped on the questions of my homework or feel tired, I usually listen to music to wind down and subsequently, I continue studying effectively. Secondly, many songs have precious meaningful messages which raise me up when I have troubles in life. Lastly, thanks to English songs, I can upgrade my English listening skill to have a good preparation for my genuine IELTS exam. And last but not least, this kind of interest is civilised, fresh and not luxurious. PART 3:
- 120 -

Do you think having a hobby is good for peoples social life? In what way? Yes, I do. In my opinion, in social life, it is indispensible for each person to have a hobby because living in a social life means we have to communicate with many people and absolutely face many problems and challenges. If people have hobby, it can help them relax, calm down and surmount troubles. Also, hobby can make people having the same hobby meet one another and connect them. For example, the people who have the same hobby such as singing, playing musical instruments or playing sports can share their hobbies through clubs. Are there any negative effects of a person spending too much on their hobby? What are they? Yes, they are. I think hobby is just an activity which helps people live more comfortably and happily. It is not a main activity in their lives. If they spend a lions share of their time on their hobby, they can neglect their studies and work. For example, a student who is interested in playing sports and spend too much time on it, their time for studying will be mitigated. It is a pity that their studying is affected badly by their hobby. Why do you think people need to have an interest or hobby? I have some points for my confirmation. Firstly, when people having problems or feeling down enjoy their interest, they will feel much better, dance to another tune or find the solutions for their troubles. Secondly, I suppose having an interest or hobby makes peoples lives more interesting and helps people look it on the bright side. In your country, how much time do people spend on work and how much time on leisure? Is this a good balance, do you think? In my country, most civilians spend about 20% of their day time on leisure and the other on work. I suppose this is not a good balance. To earn for a living, they spend too much time on working and mostly forget to relax. It is also the reason why their lives are overburdened by working or studying. Besides, their health is worse and their soul is uncomfortable. It leads to the fact that they earn a lot of money and reach their goals but their lives are boring and unhappy. Would you say the amount of free time has changed much in the last fifty years? Yes, I would. The amount of free time has changed much in the last fifty years. About fifty years ago, people had more free time than now. At that time, Vietnam was not as developing as now and its civilians did not have to work much time like now. Nowadays, people not only work in workplace but also continuing working at home. Therefore, they spend less time on leisure. It is a pity that they even cannot watch TV, play sports, read newspaper or take their children to parks on Sunday. Do you think people will have more or less free time in the future? Why?
- 121 -

In my opinion, it is likely that in the near future, about 40 years, people will have less free time. However, in the far future, more than 40 years, people will probably have more free time. My reason is that in the near future, people will certainly need to work hard to improve their standard of living, which means they will spend more time on working then on leisure. Nevertheless, in the far future, as both physical lives are improved, they will spend more time on leisure to take care of their mental lives. Describe a hobby or interest that you enjoy. - how you became interested in it - how long you have been doing it - why you enjoy it - what benefits you get Im going to describe the hobby that I enjoy doing. It is swimming. I became interested in it 5 years ago when some of my students asked me to go swimming with them on a hot summer day. At that time, I still did not know how to swim. But the following day, I started learning swimming and until now, I can do the breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly and I think that butterfly is the most difficult for us to learn whereas breaststroke is quite easy. The basics are that your arms pull, you breathe, you kick and glide. I enjoy swimming a lot because I see that there are benefits galore when we swim. Firstly, it is an activity that burns a lot of calories and is easy on the joints, supports your weight, builds muscular and endurance, improves cardiovascular fitness, cools you off and refreshes you in the summer, and one that you can do safely in your old age. Secondly, the pieces of equipment we need for swimming are just a swimsuit and goggles. The bottom line to these pieces of equipment is that choose one thats comfortable. I think that my hobby is a good one because knowing how to swim means knowing how to keep fit and rescue ourselves in some serious situation when we are in the water. IELTS 4- TEST 2- PART 1/56 FOOD AND COOKING What kinds of food do you like to eat? I like to eat Pho very much. I think that it is a kind of fast food that is easy to make. However, it also brings us many nutritious substances. Especially, Pho is one of the tradition foods of Vietnam. What kind of new food would you like to try? [Why?]

- 122 -

The kind of new food I would like to try is Bun Moc. As I see it, it is the famous food in Kim Son Ninh Binh and is introduced in everywhere in my country. However, I havent ever eaten. If I have the chance to go there, I will try eating it. Do you like cooking? [Why/ Why not?] Yes, I find cooking really interesting. Nowadays, cooking is an art and the cook could be seen as an artist. With me, It not only makes me feel relax but also help me become more clever. Moreover, it is also the way that I can show how much I care about my family. Therefore, I think that cooking is extremely necessary for women nowadays. What was the last meal you cooked? Yesterday, when my crony visited me, we prepared a small party to wish her happy birthday. Although I cannot cook many kinds of food, I made Chicken Fry that my friend likes best and this made her happier. Do you prefer home- cooked food or food from restaurants? [Why?] It depends on situation. I like eating food from restaurant because when I go there, I can eat many kinds of new food from many different areas. However, I prefer home cooked food because it is cleaner, less lipid and helps me avoid many diseases. Especially, I like intimate meals with all members in my own house. IELTS 7, SPEAKING TEST 4 PART 1: How do you usually travel to work or college? Why? I usually travel to college by motorbike. I have some reasons for my choice. Firstly, motorbike is one of the vital and popular means of transport in Vietnam. It is suitable for the conditions of the roads in my country and the financial abilities of our civilians. Secondly, the distance from my house to my college is quite short, which makes it very convenient for me to use motorbike. And last but not least, when using a motorbike, I can drop in on others flexibly. Have you always travelled to work/college in the same way? No, I have not. Apart from using motorbike as my essential means of transport, I also travel to my college by bus, which is a popular public vehicle nowadays in my country. However, motorbike is always my first choice. I only go to college by bus if necessary. Generally, I find it very convenient for me to go to my college. What do you like about travelling to work/college this way?

- 123 -

Travelling to college this way brings me many advantages. Firstly, I have a weakness for enjoying the freshness of the air. If I travel to college this way, I can enjoy the sunlight and wind, which helps me wind down. Secondly, motorbike is a kind of transport which is suitable to travel through both long and short distances. What changes would improve the way you travel to work/college? As far as I am concerned, there are some changes which can help the people who use motorbikes. The first is the energy which runs motorbikes such as petrol. Nowadays, people have to spend a lions share of their income on petrol for their motorbikes, which is really difficult for their financial conditions. If the Government have laws to control the prices of petrol, the benefit of consumers will be protected. The second is that streets should be enlarged and the quality should be upgraded, which can diminish the number of accidents. PART 2: The piece of electronic equipment that I find useful is my mobile phone. I have used it for about 3 years. It was my 19th birthday present from my mother, who treats me as an apple of her eyes. Therefore, it is really vital to my life. When I began to learn to use it, I found it quite complicated because it had too many functions. However, thanks to the help of my chum, I could use it proficiently after a short time. I find this piece of electronic equipment useful in many aspects. Firstly, it is tiny and portable. Therefore, I can bring it in my pocket everywhere. Secondly, I can connect to others by making phone calls or leaving messages whenever I want, especially when I am in jeopardy. Therefore, it helps me feel safe and sound when I go out alone. And last but not least, apart from original functions, it also contains other essential extra functions such as taking photographs, which helps me conserve memorable moments with my family and friends. With this mobile phone, I can enjoy my favorite songs or practice my IELTS listening skill. Therefore, I can not only wind down but also enhance my skills. Besides, this mobile phone also has other benefit like surfing websites, recording voice, listening to radio and awaking. In conclusion, it has many helpful functions which help me a lot and make my life more absorbing. PART 3: What kinds of machine are used for housework in modern homes in your country? There are kinds galore of machine which are used for household in modern homes in my country such as washing machine, dish washer and hoover. In the past, most citizens in my country still lived in destitute, which was the reason why they had to do housework by hands and these machines were rarities. However, thanks to the development in both physical and

mental life, the qualities of life are improved and more and more people use these machines to help them do housework. How have these machines benefited people? Are there any negative effects of using them? In my opinion, every coin has two sides and so do these machines. Lets talk about the advantages. Firstly, they help people, especially busy people, do housework, which diminishes their burden of doing housework after hard-working days. Secondly, with the advance of technological era, these machines contain many great functions that make them do housework better than human such as washing machine and hoover. Lets turn to the drawbacks. Most housework is completed by machines and human just need to sit on chairs, eat, watch TV, which makes them fatter, lazier and less dynamic. It is likely that in the near future, people will not know how to wash clothes or dishes by hands. Human will probably be slaves of machines. Do you think all new homes will be equipped with household machines in the future? Why? Yes, I do. I have several reasons for my point. Firstly, the moderner and moderner the society is, the less and less leisured human being is. Therefore, it is likely that all new homes will be equipped with household machines. Secondly, the prices of household machines will definitely be lessened in the future because of the pressure of competition and the popularity and abundance of these machines. What kinds of equipment do most workers need to use in offices today? As far as I am concerned, the kind of equipment that most workers need to use in offices today is computer. Workers nearly spend much time working with computers. It helps workers a lot such as typing, calculating, counting and communicating with their colleagues. All workers missions are faster and more accurate thanks to computers. How have developments in technology affected employment in your country? The developments in technology have considerably affected employment in my country. Firstly, technology has played a vital part in increasing labour productivity and enlarging the scale of manufacturing. Therefore, it has created employment, especially in high technological industry. Secondly, it is a pity that the developments in technology have also reduced the number of employees who do menial jobs. The reason is that their work has been replaced by machines. Some people think that technology has brought more stress than benefits to employed people nowadays. Would you agree or disagree? Why? In my opinion, I would both concur and disagree with this view. Firstly, I think that technology has brought a lot of benefits to employed people nowadays. For example, it has

been like a colleague of employees such as computers, projectors, printers and loudspeakers that help their work faster, more effective and scientific. However, it has caused many problems. For instance, with technology, people have to work with higher speeds and sober environment. Their health can be affected by machines such as computers. If they have to work with computers continuously for a long time, it may cause problems with their health, especially their eyes.
