Media Studies: Target Audience

Horror films are usually aimed at 18 year olds and those above that age, as most horror films are far too morbid for children, however, in recent years horror films have dropped their ratings from 18 to 15 so as to gain more viewers and increase their profits. Our coursework project, a horror film that we have named Psychotic, is primarily aimed towards 15 to 25 year olds as it will only be mildly morbid and there will be very little gore in the opening. The opening will have one murder, however, it will be a particularly bloody one as the murder will be an unexpected and violent one. The reason for the rating of 15 to 25 is that the film, while somewhat gory and gruesome, will not be as twisted as some of the modern day horror films such as Human Centipede.
