This is a branch of engineering that deal with the electrical energy (electricity) in following steps. Generation Transmission Distribution Application

Electrical Energy/Electricity
Electricity is a form of energy created by the movement of electrons. Directing these electron through a circuit, we can perform work. Electricity can produce light, heat, magnetism or mechanical work.

UNIT-1 D C Circuit Analysis and Network Theorems

Circuit Concept Concepts of network Active and passive elements Voltage and current sources Concept of linearity and linear network, Unilateral and bilateral elements R, L and C as linear elements Source transformation.

Concepts of Network
A network is an interconnection of two or more element The combination of different electrical elements (power source, conductor, load device ,fuse, switch etc.) in a way by which the energy can be transfer from source to load through current is called network. In the network a close path in which current flow is called electrical circuit.

Characteristics of a series circuit

The current is constant through out the circuit. The current must pass through each component in the circuit. The total resistance of the circuit controls the current in the circuit. The total resistance of the circuit is the sum of all the resistances in the circuit. The sum of the voltage drops across the resistors will equal the applied voltage.

Resistance of series circuit

Resistance in a series circuit equals the sum of all resistances (that is, R = R1+R2+R3+ etc...)

Characteristics of a parallel circuit

The current has many paths. The resistance in each load will determine the current flow for that resistance. The total resistance will always be less than the smallest resistance in the circuit. The voltage drop across all loads will be battery voltage

Resistance of parallel circuit

The formula for calculating resistance in a parallel circuit is: 1/R= 1/R1+ 1/R2+ 1/R3+ 1/R4 + 1/R5 +. Where R1 ,R2 ,R3 ,R4 ,R5 ................are the resistances of parallel path respectively.

Basic Electrical Elements

Current is the directed flow of electrons through the circuit. Voltage is the electrical pressure that causes the electrons to flow. Resistance is a restriction to current flow.
