Following are some of the questions, which are normally asked by students getting ABM calls. We, therefore, are trying to address some of your queries below: Informative Questions regarding what is ABM:1. What is Agri-business management? What is its scope? Agribusiness Management is not just about agriculture. Its a management course where you learn how to manage a firm, which is related to agriculture/livestock/ food processing and other similar domain. It does not require too much technical knowledge, though; there is a foundation course in agriculture to familiarize you with the basic concepts. So even, if one does not have agriculture background but is interested in being associated with agri-based industry, this course would provide the requisite learning. Secondly, if you are not interested in agri-domain then you may still have an opportunity to get placed in a different sector as we, till now, have common placements for both ABM and PGPM students. But, this is not a standard norm, thus, this criteria of common placements of PGPM and ABM batch may change in future. 2. Does ABM include various perspectives of marketing, finance, operations etc.? ABM has scope in all sectors including marketing, finance, etc. related to agri-domain. In other words, you will get immense opportunities in the fields of pharmacy, fertilizers or other agribased products or services which would be related to profiles almost same as marketing, finance, etc. 3. Should I try for ABM even though I dont have Agriculture background? / Can you tell the profile/background of current ABM batch? Most of the students in the current ABM batch are engineers. But they have diverse work experience. Some are from consulting field, others from IT industry, Auto Industry etc. Considerable numbers of freshers are also a part of the batch. 4. Is there an edge for ABM students anywhere over PGPM students? There may be some agri-based companies that allow only ABM students to sit for the process. These companies offer very good profiles.

Do ABM students have equal chances of getting into committees as compared to PGPM students or they have an edge in the selection process? The committee selection process offers equal chances to both PGPM and ABM students. In the current batch, there is at least one ABM student in all the committees. So it depends entirely on your capability that whether you can make it into the committees or not. And there is even a committee, IGFAB (Interest Group in Food and Agribusiness), which especially deals with the events related to agri-business. 6. Is there any special committee for ABM students? Yes, there is a committee called IGFAB (Interest Group in Food and Agribusiness), which is involved in conducting events related to ABM. This committee is quite active on the campus. IGFAB is the face of IIM Lucknow in the domains of agri-business, environment and rural management. Hard work put in by the members has helped it to build on the foundation. It is the committee handling all the agribusiness activities and events in IIML throughout the year. The committee also initiated an agribusiness conclave SANKALP this year, which included various case study events related to finance, marketing, strategy, etc. and live projects taking place all during the day. These events are done in association with prestigious corporate organizations such as Tata Rallis and Microsave. So, you tend to have more interaction with large organizations CEO, VP, Presidents, COO and other position holders during the discussions. Apart from this, other events conducted by IGFAB keep on taking place all through the year. IGFAB, under the umbrella of IIM Lucknow, acts to disseminate awareness about agri-business, to carve paths for conserving the environment and to diffuse subtle prosperity in rural India. You could gather more information regarding the same on the following link: http://www.igfabiiml.com/about.html 7. What is the normal batch size in ABM and in PGPM course? The batch size in ABM is increasing year by year. The current batch size is 45 approximately. In total there are 450 students including students in both ABM and PGPM courses.

E-Mail: ignicion@iiml.ac.in, ignicion@iiml.org Placement Related Questions:1. Would I get a job in an Agri-based industry only? It is not necessary. A lot of other companies have allowed the ABM students to sit for their process. So there are plenty of opportunities to get into different firms. But, this is not a standard norm, thus, this criteria of common placements of PGPM and ABM batch may change in future. In other words, there may be a possibility that ABM students have separate placement process. 2. How were the summer placements of ABM students this year? The summer placements of ABM students were really good this year. 3. Is there a possibility for ABM students having a separate placement in future? There has been no such official news regarding separate placements. But an ABM student should be ready for any such news in the future. There might be a possibility of separate placements.

4. Does getting into committees help an ABM student to get placed in a Non-Agri-based company? It is not necessary that getting into a committee will ensure your selection in non-agri based company. It would just help you to better your profile. Ultimately your selection rests upon your interview and the companys requirements or expectations. Course Related Questions:1. What is the course structure for ABM degree? Please refer the IIML website for it. It has clearly explained about the courses for ABM degree. E-Mail: ignicion@iiml.ac.in, ignicion@iiml.org 2. For how many courses can an ABM student apply in the second year from the PGPM curriculum? You can take courses up to one credit. 3. Are there separate classes for ABM students in the first year as well? No, the classes are common for ABM and PGPM students in the first year. There is just one additional agri-business related subject taught to ABM students, in each term of first year. Other Questions:1. Is there a Student Exchange Program option available for ABM students? Till date it is not available for ABM students, but it might happen in the future. 2. I had calls for both PGPM and ABM course? I have cleared the ABM interview. Is there a possibility that I might also convert for PGPM? Yes, the scores for PGPM and ABM are counted separately. So if you have cleared ABM interview, you can still clear for PGPM. It does not affect your chances of getting into PGPM. Some of the ABM students converted their PGPM call as well. 3. Is there any provision through which an ABM student can get enrolled later in PGPM course for example based on performance during the first two terms? There is no such provision at IIML. 4. How can I justify my choice for ABM stream even though I have no background related to agriculture or related domains? It depends upon your field of interest and how you relate it to the growth of agri-business. It is a very subjective question. Normally students answer this question by showing interest in some Agri-based company and their willingness to work for such company. For example, someone may be interested in food processing because of its huge scope, others could like seed industry or fruits import/export. There are multitudes of such options but one requires a thorough understanding of this industry if one chooses to speak about it. | Contacts | Abhiruchi +91-9794241274| Abhishek +91-8009975644 | Chinmayee +91-7388904455 | Gagan +91-8127417116
