The second grade class had a fun Valentine's Day celebrating the importance of every student. They used math operations to solve problems and graph candy hearts. This week they will continue learning about animal lifecycles in language arts. In math, students will compare metric measurements. Social studies will be replaced with administering reading assessments to determine instructional levels. While the writing assessment is over, students will write one more informative piece before starting persuasive writing.

Bs Newsflash in a dash Parent Highlight (02/18/13)
Dear Parents, Valentines Day was a hit in our second grade room. Although the goodies in the bag were certainly a fun surprise, the conversation surrounding the importance of every student was the true highlight. In honor of Valentines Day, we engaged in a math lesson focusing on using the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) to problem solve and graph candy hearts. It was a blast! Language Arts: We will continue to explore the lifecycle of animals through literature. Math: Students will compare metric measurements and find the difference between two different measurements. Social Studies: Social studies will be put on hold this week as we administer the DRA (diagnostic reading assessment). This assessment is given three times every year. Its goal is to find a students instructional reading level. Writing: Even though the informative writing assessment has come and gone, we write at least one more informative piece before we move to persuasive writing. From, Ryan P. Berardi, M.Ed.
