Skyline SACNAS Chapter Spring 2013

I.

New Structure of Skyline SACNAS Chapter The Skyline SACNAS Chapter has been a beneficial club to students seeking a degree in the STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) field. We will continue the mission of fostering the success of students by connecting them with mentors, as well as preparing them for the next level of education. However, In order to do this we will need participation from all members. In order to maintain a sense of unity, we will have to support one another in order to accomplish all of our goals. In response to this need, club chairs will no longer be represented by one person, but instead by their own committees.

A. Presidential Committee: - Oversee the overall organization of events, field trips, meetings - Make contacts and speak in front of classes to promote SACNAS/MESA - Attend weekly SOCC (Skyline Organization and Club Council) meetings B. Vice Presidential Committee: - Look for scholarships and internships as well as any other events - Keep the club up to date and aware on any current news on campus - Attend weekly SOCC (Skyline Organization and Club Council) meetings C. Secretarial Committee: - Promote SACNAS around the Skyline campus--which includes speaking in front classes - Help design and distribute fliers to advertise any SACNAS related events - Update our SACNAS Facebook page and emailing our members with any current events - Keep track of minutes D. Treasurer Committee: - Report statements and records of spending of club funds at our meetings - Have a complete understanding of the Skyline financial process (reimbursements, grants etc.).

Having committees, would distribute the workload within the club. We must remember that we are students first and our grades are also extremely important. And with this new system, we would have multiple people able to take on the tasks each committee must fulfill--reducing stress and opening up more time to study.

II. Club Meetings

Adjustments to meetings will also take effect. One of the most significant changes will be the location. Instead of meeting in a classroom, we will meet up in one of the conference rooms (room 6205 from 2p to 3:30p). This new environment will allow all of our voices to be heard and will help maintain organization and order. We will still meet up once a week, but the meetings will be ran in a slightly different manner. In order to better discuss upcoming events and activities, EVERY committee will provide the club with a report. There is a lot happening on campus and if we intend to continue being a beneficial club, we must be aware of all the opportunities and events available for our students. This is also the reason why two members (one from Pres. comm. and one from vice pres. comm. ) will attend the weekly SOCC meetings.

III. Committee Reports

Reports can be anything you feel should be shared at club meetings. They should be well organized in order for us to fully understand what its purpose is. Report should include the following for example:

Event: Relay for Life What is it? How does it benefit the club? How and what can we do to contribute? Information: Date/Time/Place

The presentation of the report is up to you, but it is encouraged to provide some sort of visual (handout, flier etc.). The reports will go in sequential order of committees Pres. Comm., VP. Comm., Sec. Comm., Treasurer This would give us a better understanding of how and who we can to talk to in order to organize events and activities on campus.

IV. Distribution of workload

We will treat upcoming events as if they were projects and each committee will have their separate assignments. Example: Event: Science Day on campus Presidential committee: - would be in charge of contacting the SOCC advisors and counselors in order to reserve time, date, and location Vice presidential committee: - would be in charge of researching hands on or interactive activities for this event Secretarial committee: - would be in charge of communicating any news pertaining to this event to our members - advertisement

Treasurer committee: - would be in charge of our budget for this event Deadlines for assigned projects will be made accordingly at time of meeting. It is important that you attend as many meetings as you can so that you stay up to date with your deadlines.

V. Motivation You gain what you put in and we tend to put more effort into something we truly enjoy doing. So now that you clearly know the tasks each committee must fulfill, YOU choose the role you want in order to make this club successful. Sometimes I find it helpful to follow these three traits: 1. Be Self Directed - If you want to do something, just do it 2. Have a desire to become better at what you do - Ask yourself if there is anything you can to improve your role 3. Remember your purpose
