5TH GRADE NEWS!

Dear 5th grade parents, It sounds like your kids had such a great time at the Audubon! It was fun to hear their stories and memories from the trip! Im sure you heard about the epic singing and dance party, which was all they could talk about this week :). In math this week, the orange group reviewed for and took a quiz on the surface area and volume of solid figures. They also began chapter 19 and will be learning about perIMPORTANT DATES Volunteer Mass May 1st Memorial Day May 27th Last Day of School May 31

centages and how they relate to fractions, ratios and decimals. The red group finished up chapter 13 on probability and took a test on Thursday. They also began a pre-test on their new pre-algebra book. In English this week, the students learned how to use quotation marks and abbreviations in their writing. In Language Arts this week the students continued reading in their literature circle books. They have new job sheet responses

that they are working on for this unit. They are doing very well using these to improve their discussions. We celebrated Earth Day on Monday! Normally we have an earth day cleanup here at St. Johns, but due to the snow on the ground this will be postponed until sometime in May! The kids enjoyed their time at the Works on Friday! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Turner
